16 May - National Evening Forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good evening. It's turned increasingly cloudy from the west through the course of the day with outbreaks of
00:07patchy rain moving in and that's a sign of things to come.
00:10The Atlantic weather system's in control of our weather over the next few days, bringing spells of rain, some heavy
00:16showers and then some stronger winds as well later Monday and into Tuesday.
00:20But the good news is as we head towards the middle and end of next week and that bank holiday
00:26weekend, temperatures are set to rise, reaching, well, recent days, mid-teens and then we're looking at mid-twenties, if
00:33not higher, by the end of next week.
00:35Rain clearing this evening into the North Sea but lingering across Scotland overnight. Elsewhere are clear spells developing but there
00:43will be still a scattering of showers overnight.
00:45Under the clearest skies and light winds across England and Wales, one or two mist and fog patches are possible.
00:51Showers frequent enough in the north and the west and outbreaks of rain across Scotland.
00:55Here, temperatures will drop to around six or seven degrees, perhaps a little lower across the clearest skies across England
01:01and Wales but for most of us, a much milder night compared to recently and a frost-free start to
01:07Sunday morning.
01:08A bright start for many of us, sunny spells, a scattering of showers, perhaps cloudy across the far south-east
01:14of England first thing and further rain across northern Scotland, Orkney and Shetland continuing through much of the day here.
01:20Showers though as we go through the day, particularly by late morning, early afternoon, start to turn frequent and heavy
01:27in the west.
01:28Some rumbles of thunder are possible, perhaps even the return of some hail.
01:31But there will be some sunny spells in between, sunniest skies across parts of Wales into the Midlands, Yorkshire, north
01:38-east England as well.
01:39But even here, we could see a scattering of light showers.
01:43Winds generally on the light side, a little blustery around the heaviest of showers.
01:47But the wind direction is changing, more of a west-southwesterly, so starting to import some warmer air.
01:54A bit more widely getting into the mid-teens rather than high single figures, low double digits.
01:59In the best of the sunshine, 16 or 17 Celsius, so starting to feel a little more pleasant away from
02:06the blustery showers,
02:07which become more frequent across the whole of the UK through the evening time on Sunday, merging into some longer
02:13spells of rain as we head overnight.
02:15So England and Wales, temperatures generally holding up here.
02:18Some colder air digging back in across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland as we move through into Monday morning.
02:24So in the countryside, again, a touch of frost is possible, six or seven degrees for the rest of the
02:30UK.
02:30So Monday is going to be a mixed start across England and Wales.
02:33Bands of showery rain pushing eastwards, a bright, chilly start across Northern Ireland and Scotland with spells of hazy sunshine.
02:40Some showers developing here through the day.
02:42Sunshine breaking out elsewhere, but the risk of some heavy showers across eastern and southern England ahead of the next
02:48weather system approaching by the end of the day.
02:52Temperatures another degree or so up on Monday, so more widely 15, 16 Celsius, highs of 17 or 18 in
02:59the sunshine in the southeast.
03:01And then it's the evening time.
03:02The wet and windy weather is likely to spread across all areas.
03:06And then it remains wet on Tuesday morning and then showers following into Wednesday as well.
03:13But then high pressure starts to build later on Wednesday into Thursday and more sunshine is expected to build from
03:20the south.
03:20And with southerly winds, temperatures rising as well, going from the teens into the 20s, perhaps locally the high 20s
03:27to end the week.
03:29So some much needed warmer weather on the way for all of us.
