00:00Hi there.
00:01Much warmer and drier weather is on the way later this week and into the bank holiday
00:05weekend.
00:06But it's not here yet.
00:08For the time being, low pressure remains in charge.
00:11And this low will send spells of rain into the UK from the west and south-west overnight.
00:16Most places turning damp and breezy by the end of the night.
00:20One exception, north-east Scotland where it's drier, a few clear spells, but actually for
00:24the vast majority of the country we've got a cloudy night, a breezy night and with spells
00:28of rain, so of course it is going to be milder compared with recent nights.
00:32Temperatures in most places are not much lower than 10 or 11 Celsius.
00:36However it's not a pleasant start to Tuesday.
00:40By any stretch of the imagination, low pressure in charge, sending these weather fronts through,
00:43followed by a brisk south-westerly and unstable airflow, a returning polar maritime air mass
00:50and that means a lot of showers out there.
00:53Initially it's a damp start for Scotland, eastern northern England.
00:57Those spells of rain pushing into Orkney and eventually reaching Shetland by the end of
01:01the afternoon, petering out, albeit as these outbreaks of rain reach the North Sea.
01:06And then you can see a lot of showers on the map by the afternoon.
01:10Most places getting a soaking on and off spells of rain in other words.
01:15The showers emerging to give longer spells of rain in places.
01:18You can see where they might merge together across the south-west peninsula, parts of Wales
01:21for example.
01:22Otherwise they're going to be rattling through, gusty winds accompanying them.
01:26In between, yes, some sunny spells and feeling warmer compared with recent days once the sun
01:32comes out because of the milder wind direction, 18 to 19 Celsius as possible.
01:37But these showers will be coming in thick and fast.
01:39They're going to be making things very wet indeed across eastern parts of Northern Ireland.
01:43North-east England could even give the old rumble of thunder as well.
01:46Eventually overnight they'll ease but there'll still be a lot of showers around by the time we
01:51get to Wednesday morning and another mild start to the day.
01:54Temperatures a degree or two higher compared with Tuesday morning.
01:57So quite widely double figures if not into the low teens.
02:02We begin Wednesday with a lot of cloud and frequent showers.
02:06The showers keep going through much of the day across northern parts of the country.
02:10Something a little drier and brighter emerges towards the south however.
02:15The showers begin to ease and this is because higher pressure is beginning to build in here.
02:20Wednesday essentially is the transition day and it's a slightly warmer day, still the potential
02:26for high teens fairly widely and 20, 21 Celsius possible in the east by the middle to the late
02:33part of the afternoon.
02:34But you can see that high pressure building in later Wednesday sending weather fronts further north
02:40and eventually allowing the winds to switch to Southerlies and they will waft warmer air our way
02:46by Friday and in some places hot air.
02:50So we're talking about the mid to high 20s fairly widely across eastern parts of the UK
02:56and in particular the southeast by Friday.
03:00And through the weekend, yeah, there'll be some showers, potential thunderstorms in places at first
03:04but higher pressure builds in more firmly Sunday and into Monday.
