00:00Hi there, cloudy and breezy overnight with some outbreaks of rain, especially over the north and west of the UK.
00:08In other words, typical warm sector conditions, that's the slice of air in between a warm front and a cold
00:15front
00:15extending across virtually the whole of the UK as we go into the evening.
00:20The warm front clearing through Orkney and Shetland, the cold front trailing behind there,
00:26and then we've got much of the UK in this slice of mild but moist Atlantic air coming from the
00:33south-west.
00:33Southwesterly winds pick up somewhat overnight, peaking around dawn on Tuesday,
00:39gales towards coastal parts of western Scotland and a lot of cloud being blown in on this brisk south-westerly
00:46wind.
00:47The cloud low enough and thick enough to give some spots of rain and drizzle, especially over western hills, but
00:52not exclusively.
00:54drier and clearer towards the south-east and the far north of Scotland.
00:59But because of the extensive cloud, because of the breeze, it is going to be a frost-free night.
01:03In fact, a mild night, 9 or 10 Celsius in many spots as we start Tuesday.
01:09Despite the mild feel, first thing, it is a cloudy start, a dull start with this strong wind continuing from
01:15the south-west.
01:16That wind slightly shifts to more of a southerly as the day progresses and, as a result, the cloud breaks
01:23up.
01:23We import slightly drier air from the continent.
01:26Sunshine more extensively across England and Wales, especially central and eastern parts.
01:32Still some cloud for west Wales as well as south-west England.
01:36Northern England, we'll get into the cloudier zone, but the cloud thickest for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:41Here, the cold front starts to move back in, toppling its way south-eastwards, albeit slowly, bringing a spell of
01:48heavy rain,
01:49accompanied by strong wind gusts.
01:52Not ideal conditions for St. Patrick's Day.
01:55But for the far north-west of Scotland, we're back into showery and cooler air,
02:00with temperatures here into the 9, 10, 11 Celsius range.
02:05Further south, where we've got the sunnier skies, a warmer day to come compared with Monday, 14 or 15 generally.
02:13Then, as we go into Tuesday nights, we see that cold front very slowly wriggle its way into central Scotland,
02:21eventually bringing some rain through the central belt into southern Scotland, clearing Northern Ireland.
02:26But you can see how it fragments and weakens showers into the north-west of Scotland,
02:30interspersed by clear spells and a gusty wind.
02:33And it's going to be a colder night here.
02:35Further south, clear spells and lighter winds.
02:38And as a result, again, a colder night under those clearer skies, even if we're still in the technically milder
02:45air mass.
02:46Six to eight Celsius, but lower than that in sheltered spots.
02:50And some mist and fog patches to wake up to on Wednesday.
02:53But those mist and fog patches don't last long.
02:56Quite quickly, they clear.
02:58And then barely a cloud in sight across many parts of England and Wales, away from the far north of
03:02England,
03:03for Wednesday afternoon with this south-easterly airflow.
03:08And temperatures responding very well indeed.
03:11We're talking about widely 17 or 18 Celsius.
03:14Some places 19 Celsius.
03:1520% chance of 20 Celsius or higher.
03:19A very warm spring day, in other words.
03:22Further north for Scotland and Northern Ireland, not quite as warm.
03:25We've got more cloud for the north of England and much of central and southern Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:29But the front tending to peter away.
03:31So just a few spots of rain.
03:33Showers into the far north-west of Scotland.
03:3511 to 12 Celsius here.
03:37But relatively benign conditions for many parts of the UK.
03:41And it continues to be the case through Thursday into Friday that there'll be plenty of sunshine around.
03:47Wednesday's the peak of temperatures, but it stays warm in the sunny spells for the rest of the week until
03:53the weekend.
03:54Bye-bye.
