00:00Hello there.
00:01Well, the start of May has been much more changeable compared to the final week of April,
00:05and that's certainly the case out there for many through Bank Holiday Monday.
00:08Quite a mixed picture to start the day.
00:10A lot of clouds and murky conditions actually across many parts of England and Wales, particularly
00:14across the Midlands and Wales, and across the south of Wales and the south-west we've
00:17already got some showery outbreaks of rain too.
00:20But further north, the skies are brighter, particularly for central and southern parts
00:23of Scotland and northern England.
00:24Here we'll see the best of the sunshine through the course of this afternoon, so a largely
00:28dry day to come here and feeling pleasantly warm, actually warmer compared to yesterday
00:32for north-east England and eastern Scotland too.
00:35There will be some rain though pushing into the north of Scotland, quite showery in nature,
00:38but starting to turn a little bit breezier for the very far north-west, so a cooler feeling
00:42day to come here.
00:43Further south though, particularly for southern counties of England, well here, quite warm
00:46conditions with the sunshine helping to develop that cloud and spark quite a few heavy showers
00:51by this afternoon.
00:52Those will run their way eastwards through the M4 corridor, so the likes of Hampshire, Dorset,
00:57but Devon and Cornwall in the south of Wales could see the old thunderstorm and some pretty
01:01intense downpours locally in places through this afternoon.
01:04But in the best of the sunshine in the south, well, 19 or 20 degrees, still above average
01:08temperatures for the time of year here, and as I say, temperatures not too far away from
01:12average elsewhere across the UK.
01:15Still the potential for some heavy showers in the south and the south-west through this
01:18evening, so bear that in mind if you are making any travel plans.
01:21But through the course of this evening overnight, the showers will gradually fade away and become
01:25quite isolated.
01:26So for most of the UK, it's turning into a dry night.
01:28In the best of the clear skies, well, we could see some mist and fog patches developing, particularly
01:32across south-east England and up towards the east of England too.
01:36But for most of England and Wales, it will be a fairly mild night, temperatures not falling
01:39below 7 to 9 degrees for most.
01:42Further north though, it will start to turn a little bit cooler, particularly across northern
01:46Scotland.
01:46We'll start to see the showers merging into longer spells of rain here, and as well as that, as
01:50the air turns colder, some of the showers will turn to snow by the end of the night across
01:54the high ground.
01:55So potentially a covering of snow across the high ground of the Highlands, the Grampians
01:59first thing on Tuesday.
02:00And then that brisk northerly flow develops and pushes its way southwards through the day
02:04on Tuesday.
02:05So a much cooler feeling day for most of us come tomorrow afternoon.
02:09There will be some showers around, but generally not as heavy as today, and any showers will generally
02:14be restricted to more kind of eastern areas of the UK by the afternoon.
02:18But as I say, a mixture of cloud and sunny spells, still pleasantly warm in that sunshine in the
02:23south, away from that fairly keen northerly breeze.
02:26But in the north, well, northern parts of Scotland will barely reach double figures, and
02:30it will feel even colder than that when you factor in the winds.
02:33So certainly a chillier feeling day for many of us.
02:36Into tomorrow evening, a scattering of showers is still potentially possible, particularly across
02:40northern England, these working their way southwards into the Midlands and perhaps
02:43the very far southeast later in the evening.
02:46But for most, the middle part of the week does look mostly dry with just the odd isolated
02:51shower around.
02:52But I'll have more details in that in your full week ahead forecast available on our YouTube
02:55channel later today.
02:57I'll see you again very soon.
