00:00Hello again.
00:01After a dry Christmas period, the weather looks set to stay generally settled as we
00:05go through this weekend and indeed through the rest of 2025.
00:09It's all thanks to this large area of high pressure that's been dominating the UK over
00:12the last few days and it will continue to remain in place across the UK, centre just
00:17to the north as we go through the next few days and indeed all the way up until New Year's
00:21Eve.
00:22It will though allow the winds to come down from a north direction and potentially bring
00:26some colder air as we go towards the middle of next week.
00:30But back to the rest of Friday evening and it's still quite a cloudy picture across some
00:33southern regions of the UK.
00:35That cloud has been quite stubborn to clear through Boxing Day and it's also fairly cloudy
00:39across parts of North East England, South East Scotland and more generally so across the north
00:43of Scotland.
00:44The cloud here is actually thick enough to bring a few spots of light rain and drizzle
00:47as we go through the course of tonight and that will actually help to lift the fog that
00:50we've seen in place across places like the Murray Firth region on Boxing Day.
00:55Otherwise where skies stay clear, particularly across Western Scotland, Northern Ireland
00:59and through some central parts of the UK, well it's here that we like to see the most widespread
01:03frost tonight.
01:04So temperatures in the countryside falling below freezing in some spots and otherwise even
01:08in the cloudier zones it will be a cold night but temperatures mostly holding just above
01:12freezing at least in the main towns and cities.
01:16So Saturday will begin on a mostly sunny note, one or two very isolated freezing fog patches perhaps
01:21where skies have been clear.
01:23But generally overall it will be a cloudier day compared to recent days especially so across
01:28more northern eastern parts of England and eastern parts of Scotland.
01:31The cloud here giving the odd spot or two of light rain and drizzle perhaps at times
01:35especially up over the higher ground, for example the Pennines.
01:39Otherwise the best of the sunshine really reserved through the afternoon to parts of Western
01:43Wales, South West England and perhaps Northern Ireland or Western Scotland.
01:47But even here it could turn cloudier later in the day.
01:50It will also turn windy as we go through the day compared to on Friday across more southern
01:54regions of the UK.
01:56So gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour across the high ground of the Cambrian Mountains of
02:00Wales, the moors of South West England as well.
02:02So feeling pretty cold in the wind once again and temperatures largely similar to recent days,
02:08perhaps a degree or two higher for some of us, seven or eight degrees.
02:11But as I say, wherever you are exposed to that breeze, it is going to be a day to wrap up warmly.
02:15So a bit of a cloudy end to Saturday and perhaps only really the very far West and South West
02:22holding on to any clear spells.
02:24One or two bits and pieces of light rain at times pushing south eastwards across the Midlands
02:29and southern England as we go into Sunday morning as well.
02:31So overall a much milder night to come for England, Wales and probably Northern Ireland as well
02:37as we go towards Sunday morning, largely frost free, but across Scotland here the skies are
02:41likely to stay generally a little bit clearer and we will see a more widespread frost developing.
02:46Temperatures in the Highlands, minus three to minus five Celsius and there may well be
02:50some freezing fog patches forming by the end of the night, especially across the central
02:54lowlands and these could become quite dense.
02:57So Sunday is looking to be a pretty cloudy day for the vast majority of us.
03:01The best of any breaks tend to be towards the west, so western parts of Wales favoured for
03:05some sunshine, north-western parts of England and more especially Scotland.
03:09So here we should see a good deal of weak winter sunshine through the course of the day, but
03:14of course that freezing fog may well linger for much of the day across places like the central lowlands.
03:20Otherwise across the UK, certainly a much cloudier outlook, there may well be a few glimmers
03:24of brightness into the afternoon, but that won't do much for the temperatures.
03:27Still a fairly chilly feeling day, six or seven degrees for most of us, but at least the winds
03:32in the south won't be quite as strong as they will be on Saturday.
03:37So as we go into next week and towards the end of 2025, high pressure is likely to continue to
03:42dominate the UK's weather, so that means it's going to stay generally dry.
03:45There will continue to be a lot of cloud, the best of the sunshine tend to be towards more northern
03:50and western parts of the UK. Where we do see clear skies overnight, there'll certainly be
03:54the chance of some frost and even some freezing fog patches locally, which could last for much of
03:59the day. And then towards Tuesday and Wednesday, the end of the year, we could see it turning colder
04:04and in the northeast in particular, we could see a few of those showers starting to turn wintry.
