00:00Good evening. Are you fed up of the cloud and the unrelenting rain of recent weeks?
00:05Well, do stay tuned to the forecast because I have details of somewhat of a change on the way towards the end of the week.
00:11But for the meantime, we still have this large area of high pressure sitting across Scandinavia,
00:15locking in some very deeply cold conditions here.
00:18Otherwise, across the UK and the North Atlantic, we have low pressure dominating,
00:21and it's actually turned quite a bit milder for most of us over the weekend.
00:24And we will see the next few days maintain that fairly mild regime.
00:30But low pressure will dominate, so weather fronts will bring further spells of heavy rain at times,
00:34and it will also turn windy in places too.
00:36But towards the latter part of the week, we start to see the wind switch to more of a northly direction.
00:41That allows much colder air to flood southwards across the UK.
00:44So we will see a return to some winter conditions, and that means frost, ice, and potentially some snow in some places too.
00:51But back to Sunday evening, and it's a very different picture out there.
00:55Quite mild and murky conditions, some mist and fog developing over the high ground.
00:59Outbreaks of rain or showers pushing northwards across the UK as well.
01:03There will be some dry interludes as well for all of us, so it won't be a complete washout overnight.
01:07But for eastern parts of Scotland turning increasingly wet through the early hours,
01:12Auckland and Shetland will also stay quite windy, as it has been over the weekend.
01:16The best of any clearer breaks overnight tonight, probably for the northwest highlands,
01:20but also Northern Ireland could see a few clearer breaks,
01:23and that may well allow, as the winds ease, some mist and fog to form in places here.
01:28In these two regions, we could well see some patchy frost as well,
01:32but for most, the cloud will act like a bit of a blanket tonight,
01:34so I'm expecting temperatures in most towns and cities to hold up at 6 or 7 degrees Celsius.
01:40So a fairly mild start to the day on Monday, but there will be quite a lot of low cloud around,
01:44so even if you don't have fog, there could be some mist over the hilltops as well.
01:48Bits and pieces of rain drizzle around across eastern areas first thing in the day,
01:52but I'm hopeful the cloud will break up a bit more widely through the afternoon,
01:55so parts of the Midlands, eastern and south-eastern England should see some bright or sunny spells developing,
02:00and here it should actually feel fairly mild, if not spring-like, in any sunshine by the afternoon.
02:06But a different story elsewhere, quite cloudy conditions across Scotland with outbreaks of rain,
02:10and certainly some much heavier rain developing across Wales and the southwest through the second half of the afternoon.
02:15Here, the rain arriving on what is pretty saturated ground,
02:19so we are anticipating the potential for some flooding in places as we go through the afternoon,
02:24and more especially the evening, a weather warning in place here,
02:27and also turning quite windy, strong south-easterly winds developing,
02:31so bringing some large waves onto some of the coasts.
02:34But as I say, it's going to be a mild day.
02:36Temperature is perhaps up to double figures in many parts of England and Wales,
02:39and milder than of late in northern Scotland too.
02:41Now, through Monday evening, the wettest conditions will transfer their way eastwards
02:47across southern counties of England towards the southeast,
02:50so some difficult driving conditions for Monday evening's rush hour,
02:53and some transport disruption is possible due to flooding locally.
02:56Outbreaks of rain continuing across the far northeast of Scotland as well,
02:59so another wet period of weather to come here.
03:02But the best of the clear breaks, once again, across the northwest of Scotland,
03:05where we may well see one or two frost patches here and there.
03:08Otherwise, though, generally speaking, most places staying frost-free,
03:11and lows, once again, around 7 or 8 degrees in the south, a bit colder in the north.
03:17For Tuesday, then, it's another fairly changeable day.
03:20Quite a lot of cloud around for many of us,
03:22and there will be some outbreaks of rain or showers at times.
03:25But once again, the southwest will be where the focus for the wet weather will be,
03:29with another weather front and area of rain pushing in for the afternoon,
03:33so turning particularly wet for Wales and southwest England.
03:36A bit breezier compared to on Monday for many of us,
03:39and certainly you'll notice that across the east of Scotland,
03:42where we see that south-easterly wind starting to freshen quite a bit here.
03:45So feeling a little bit colder compared to on Monday,
03:49highs of 6 or 7 degrees for northern Scotland,
03:51but still mild across the majority of England and Wales.
03:54In actual fact, 12 or 13 degrees, perhaps, in any brightness,
03:57so well above average temperatures for the time of year.
