03 May - National Evening forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office and it remains changeable
00:05over the next few days. Low pressure generally passing through the UK, keeping the showers
00:10going but also we see a northerly wind direction developing as we head towards the middle of
00:16the week with temperatures falling below average but it is quite short lived as winds turn
00:21subtly again by the end of the week. Some heavy showers across central southern parts
00:26of England and Wales through Sunday evening slowly easing but it's generally a cloudy
00:30end to the day for most, some showery outbreaks of rain. Overnight it remains cloudy and murky,
00:36some hill fog, some drizzle in places, some showery outbreaks of rain. Winds generally light
00:40but picking up across the far north of Scotland where further rain will pass across Orkney
00:46and Shetland. Under any clear spells temperatures will dip away to single figures under the cloud
00:51holding up between 9 and 11 degrees. So it means bank holiday Monday is a grey start for most of
00:58us,
00:58damp and dull in places, some hill fog, some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle but there
01:02will be some sunshine too, particularly across parts of Scotland and this transferring into parts
01:07of northern England through the morning into the afternoon. Some sunny spells for northern Ireland
01:10ahead of some showers moving in and sunny spells also across southern parts of England and Wales but
01:16just like we saw today. This could trigger some heavy showers here, the odd rumble of thunder is
01:21possible. The rest of England and Wales could be largely cloudy but there'll be some brighter breaks
01:27that develop at times. Some colder air starting to filter in across northern Scotland so here
01:32temperatures dropping away by the afternoon, only six degrees across Lerwick. Elsewhere the mid-teens and in
01:39the sunshine across southern England reaching around 18 or 19 degrees. So if we compare the temperatures
01:45to today we can see across northern and eastern parts of England and Scotland here a good few degrees
01:53warmer on Monday compared to Sunday but some areas particularly southeast England they will be lower
01:58where we still reached around 20 degrees. So into the evening time on Monday still some showers around
02:05but they will start to ease away. Some clear spells developing a bit more widely overnight into Tuesday
02:12and with a northerly wind developing a bit of a colder night for everyone. Single figures a bit more widely
02:19perhaps a touch of frost in the shelter spots across Scotland as well. So a fresher start to Tuesday morning
02:24but a brighter start. Spells of sunshine in places but also a scattering of showers. Showers starting to fall as
02:31snow
02:31over the Scottish mountains and that colder air slowly filtering further south through the day. So overall
02:37temperatures will be lower on Tuesday in the best of the sunshine and holding on to slightly warmer air across
02:43southeast England. Here 17, 18 degrees still possible but falling into single figures a bit more widely across
02:49northern Scotland. Low double digits across northern England, northern Ireland. So it will start to feel colder and that colder
02:56air
02:56continues to push its way southwards through the into the middle of the week and we'll continue to see some
03:02showers
03:02at times through Wednesday, Thursday perhaps a little drier into Friday as well. But those temperatures dropping a little
03:10below average towards the middle of the week and then starting to rise towards Friday and into the weekend as
03:16they turn
03:16southerly again. So chilly a few days to come for the middle of the week before turning warmer again. More
03:22information
