Police in Meerut have solved the murder case of Kausar, a woman found dead at her home in Majid Nagar under Lisadi Gate police station limits. Her husband, Saqib, has been arrested after confessing to the crime.

According to SP City Vinayak Gopal Bhosale, initial investigation raised suspicion as there were no signs of forced entry or struggle at the scene, indicating the involvement of someone close to the victim. During questioning, Saqib gave contradictory statements, which were later found to be false after verification through CCTV footage.

Under sustained interrogation, Saqib confessed that he murdered his wife by slitting her throat with a paper cutter while she was asleep on Friday morning. He then attempted to mislead police by breaking a cupboard lock and scattering items to make it appear like a robbery. He also cleaned blood stains and disposed of the weapon in a dustbin before leaving the house.

Police revealed that Saqib was allegedly in an illicit relationship with another woman and wanted to marry her. Frequent disputes had taken place between him and Kausar, who opposed the affair. Investigators said he had earlier tried to push her towards s&***e by subjecting her to harassment, but later decided to kill her.

The case took a crucial turn when the couple’s daughters, initially claiming that a thief had committed the crime, revealed the truth during separate questioning by woman constables in plain clothes. They stated that their father had instructed them to give a false statement.

Based on the daughters’ statements and Saqib’s confession, police registered a murder case, recovered the weapon, and produced the accused before court, from where he was sent to judicial custody.

The three daughters are currently staying with their aunt. Further investigation is ongoing.
