Haridwar Ghat Row: Woman Bathes Pet Dog in Ganga, Sparks Heated Clash with Devotees

A dispute broke out at a Ganga ghat in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, after a woman was seen bathing her pet dog in the river, triggering objections from devotees present at the site.

The incident reportedly took place at Sarvanand Ghat, where the woman had arrived with her family. Witnesses said she entered the river with her dog while several people were taking a holy dip, leading to strong objections over religious sentiments associated with the Ganga.

According to reports, the situation quickly escalated into a heated argument between the woman and bystanders. She allegedly reacted angrily, shouted at those questioning her actions, and made remarks asserting her influence during the confrontation.

As tensions rose, family members intervened and eventually persuaded her to leave the spot along with the dog.

The entire episode was captured on video by a bystander and has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread debate and mixed reactions online.

Local priest Ujjwal Pandit also criticised the act, stating that the Ganga holds deep religious significance and is central to Hindu rituals. He termed the incident a reflection of lack of awareness regarding religious practices.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
