00:00Now, Anna, southeastern areas right now where firefighters have been busy battling wildfires still burning in Georgia and Florida.
00:08Rain coming this weekend is going to help with their efforts and put out some flames.
00:12Get desperately needed.
00:13We've seen so many thousands of acres burned and unfortunately quite a few buildings and homes specifically damaged by some
00:21of these wildfires.
00:22So how much rain are we expecting?
00:24Well, take a look.
00:25We'll break it down on the map.
00:26So a small area of two to four here, but most of the region, especially where we need the rain
00:31the most, is in the one to two or south of where we actually have the green shading.
00:36That's where we're talking 0.5 to an inch.
00:39My five is not very good there, but you get the point.
00:42So not as much rain as we would hope, but we'll take what we can get.
00:46Now, here's the thing.
00:47Even though maybe it doesn't sound like a lot and it's certainly not enough to knock out our drought, we
00:51could still see some flooding, especially when the ground is just so dry.
00:54Sometimes it can be hard for it to soak up the water.
00:56It just kind of runs off and then causes problems.
00:58So overnight we start to see the downpours.
01:00Don't be surprised if you're woken up by some of these downpours.
01:03We really get into the Carolinas by the time we get to 6 a.m.
01:06But watch what happens.
01:07Southern Georgia, northern Florida.
01:09We start to get more of the rainfall by later in the morning, 8, 9, 9, 30.
01:14As this line drops south, that's where we could see some of these storms on the stronger side.
01:18Some stronger wind gusts, maybe a little bit of small hail, but for the most part, this is beneficial rainfall,
01:24just maybe not the best timing for your weekend plans.
01:26We're at Saturday, 8 p.m.
01:27A lot of the northern portions of the region have dried out.
01:30We're left with spotty showers and thunderstorms.
01:33That's the trend for Sunday as south Florida becomes the focus for the main line with this system.
01:39Now, we struggle to completely stay dry in the northern portions of the region, but for the most part, this
01:44is about a two, three-day event.
01:46Now, when we look at the drought monitor, this is where we need the rain the most.
01:49That exceptional category that did, unfortunately, expand from yesterday's update.
01:54We get an update once a week on Thursdays.
01:56This, unfortunately, is not where we're looking at the most rain.
01:59But, again, we will take what we can get.
02:01At the very least, it's going to help those firefighters get all those fires under control.
02:05However, we do still have elevated fire danger.
02:07It just shifts a little further south.
02:09Another thing to keep in mind, so this is where we have the wind that is not coming with enough
02:13rain.
02:13It's going to lead to that elevated fire risk.
02:16Further north is where we have the wind with the rain.
02:19That's where some of those storms could be on the stronger side.
02:22So just something to keep in mind.
02:24You want to be prepared from Jacksonville all the way down to Tampa.
02:28But, again, it's mostly beneficial rainfall that we're talking about.
02:30By Sunday, it's not even enough for a yellow summer risk area.
02:34But just know some of these storms could be on the strong and severe side.
02:37And the one thing about Florida, any time we get some storms that could be a little bit severe,
02:42we can never completely rule out an isolated tornado.
02:45So just be prepared.
02:46Stay weather aware.
02:47Make sure you have multiple ways to get all of those alerts.
