Days of rain across the South, especially the Gulf Coast, may cause problems heading into Mother's Day weekend.
Transcript
00:00We have the severe weather, though. That's not what we want to see. So tornado watch out until 11 central
00:04time gives you an idea of that threat. It kind of shifts to more flash flooding concern as we head
00:10through the overnight and, you know, strong wind, some hail.
00:13But from Alexandria, Louisiana through central Mississippi and much of the state of Alabama, including Birmingham and Montgomery, all under
00:21that watch.
00:22When we zoom out, though, this is the entire area that we're concerned about for severe weather tonight, especially in
00:28that orange level two out of four moderate risk area.
00:30It's where the most numerous severe storms are expected. It's where we've already started to see some of those severe
00:35storms initiate.
00:37All types of severe weather are on the table here, but the wind, the flooding and the hail are the
00:42biggest concerns.
00:43Here's the thing, though. It's a low tornado threat, but already a couple of tornado warnings.
00:46So that just goes to show a low threat, still a threat. Expect a few isolated tornadoes on the ground.
00:53We talk about the flooding. This is the entire area we are concerned about similar, but a little different compared
00:58to just the severe weather in general.
01:00We do think it stays localized flash flooding, but tomorrow morning as you're heading out the door, watch out for
01:06those flooded roadways.
01:07Any ponding on the roads can get dangerous, and you certainly want to avoid those areas.
01:12Let's take a look at future radar, give you an idea of how this plays out the rest of tonight
01:16and then into tomorrow,
01:17because you can see why flash flooding really becomes a threat overnight, the widespread heavy downpours.
01:21But tomorrow we have more severe weather to talk about, and this is a situation where we could have those
01:27severe storms firing right out the gate.
01:29I'm going to hit play here and we'll continue on. You can see, I mean, by the time we get
01:33to 5, 630, this is off the coast.
01:35And so that threat really drops as we head into the evening hours. It's more of an early day situation,
01:40though.
01:41We have more rainfall coming behind this Friday. We start to focus on the Gulf Coast with a new storm
01:46and some more heavy downpours as we head into the weekend,
01:49where flash flooding really is going to be a concern. Let me show you specifically the area we're watching for
01:55tomorrow.
01:56It's a low-end threat level, one out of four, mainly damaging wind and those flooding downpours, so not a
02:02major severe weather day,
02:04but still something that you want to be ready for. Then Friday through the weekend, here's where we're focusing for
02:09that localized flash flood risk.
02:11Okay, let's go.
02:11Okay, let's go.
