00:00Area around Cumberland Gap. This storm has been severe, pulling to the area through an area just east of La
00:06Follette and moving into an area near Harrogate.
00:08So that's been a pesky storm. We have some intense showers and thunderstorms moving through the upper reaches of the
00:14Savannah River here, upstream of Augusta.
00:18They're rumbling, and we need every drop here. This is good news.
00:21I know it's probably coming at a bad time for maybe the social calendar, family calendar here with the holiday
00:28weekend upon us.
00:28But we've been so dry here, and this is what we need to see for all those beaches along Lake
00:34Norman to open back up north of Charlotte.
00:36At least one or two beaches that are often popular places closed because of low water right now.
00:41We have had some flash flooding, by the way, down into areas around Mobile, Alabama, and some very heavy rain,
00:46thunderstorms moving through Biloxi and Gulfport.
00:48The upward trend, though, is with this newer generation of thunderstorms popping over the Texas panhandle and down to the
00:54south of the panhandle through Lubbock.
00:56Interstate 27 here has been and will continue to be a hot spot for some nasty thunderstorms looking at some
01:02recent reports.
01:03They're coming in now. Here we are, Aiken, Texas, one-inch diameter hail up to the north near Plainview.
01:08Nickel-sized, dime-sized hail. Lubbock and Slayton, Texas, look at this. It's golf ball-sized hail.
01:14And we also have that 58-mile-per-hour brownfield report.
01:17Now, there is one new severe thunderstorm watch issued here. This is the first one of the day.
01:21And there it is. It's kind of a modest size.
01:24But from Amarillo, south to Lubbock, east to Memphis, Paducah, and Aspermont, Texas.
01:29And this is areas around Interstate 27 and east.
01:32Not quite to Wichita Falls. This is the Oklahoma-Texas line here.
01:36And then this is the Red River, just for perspective.
01:38So we're looking at the stem of the Texas panhandle and points a little south, where a severe thunderstorm watch
01:43is now in effect.
01:43So to the east, we've got severe weather rumbling in some spots, not as organized.
01:47And then a slightly more organized risk of severe weather.
01:51Current watch again, Amarillo to Lubbock and east.
01:54It's the central part of that zone there, south of I-40 and into areas near Interstate 27.
02:01With big storms popping, it's happening there with those storms that will bring hail and damaging wind to many areas
02:07in the southern plains.
02:07And then this is going to be, we're going to see a couple of episodes of this.
02:10This is tomorrow afternoon, 3.30 central time, Houston, Beaumont, Port Arthur.
02:16And then we get into Sunday morning, another round in the same spot.
02:19That spells trouble, flash flooding in Houston, drought relief to the east, but flooding more than we want here farther
02:24west.
02:25Lots of areas are under flood watches here in the Ohio Valley and into central south Texas and much of
02:30Louisiana.
02:31And we're going to see repetitive rounds of storms over the coming days.
02:34Saturday, and some severe storms again into the Panhandle region down through south Texas.
02:39Hail, damaging wind, even isolated tornadoes sneaking onto our map there.
02:43And then our Sunday and Monday maps really don't change much.
02:46The overall message is similar.
02:48If you are east of I-35 or even along I-35, expect thunderstorms.
02:53There's your holiday Monday forecast for Memorial Day and the greatest flood threat from the Texas coast into Louisiana.
03:00And overall, just a quick look at the numbers here.
03:02Four to eight inches of rain coming there.
03:04Also, some improvements coming to the drought here into the interior Carolinas,
03:08but flash flooding always in danger even amid a drought.
