Weekend rain did little to stop the spread of dangerous wildfires in Georgia and Florida, but more impactful storms are on the way.
Transcript
00:00Let's go to the southeast now, where wildfires are continuing to rapidly spread across northern Florida and southern Georgia.
00:06Tens of thousands of acres have been burned, and a new fire in Florida forced a closure of part of
00:10the Everglades National Forest.
00:12Despite weekend rainfall, dangerous fire conditions are still present now, and officials warn brief moisture will do little to stop
00:19the ongoing threat.
00:21With more in the southeast forecast, here's Bernie and Ari with tonight's Big Three.
00:28All right, Jeff, we're back again.
00:30Time for the Big Three, where we look at the other big weather stories that we're following for you today.
00:35And what's becoming a bigger and bigger story is what is coming into the southeastern United States.
00:41A stormy stretch sets in, we've had to say it slow.
00:45But even tonight, still some lingering showers near Atlanta, Jackson, Montgomery, New Orleans watching for those thunderstorms,
00:52and a wet night in Virginia Beach at times, otherwise cloudy and temperatures stay a little bit elevated overnight.
00:56Now, as we move forward, not much is going to be happening tomorrow in the southeast,
01:00but you're going to start seeing rain coming in west Texas Thursday night, then Friday in the Texas, Friday night
01:07and a Saturday.
01:07We'll be tracking that rain, Atlanta, Columbia, Charleston, Jacksonville.
01:11There'll be some thunderstorms with it, but it's mostly rain and very much needed rain at that.
01:16It is going to help with the short-term drought relief, certainly help with the ongoing fire danger increase in
01:20moisture here,
01:20and eventually some of those storms are turning across Florida, especially this weekend.
01:24That'll cut the heat, too.
01:25Look at Tampa on Saturday, 87-77 on Sunday.
01:29We'll see the cooler weather across the Carolinas and Tennessee to start the weekend,
01:32but Sunday actually turns out quite nice.
01:34Not a winning weekend, but perhaps a spectacular Sunday.
01:38A spectacular Sunday.
01:39Except for the Florida Peninsula.
01:41All right.
