00:10We've also had some very heavy rain earlier in the week, late last week, instances in which we've had flash
00:17flooding in the city.
00:18So be careful out there, but we do need the rain.
00:20As we take a look at that stretch here, so that camera actually right along the Texas-Oklahoma line,
00:25we've got a thunderstorm barely west of there, about a third of a county west and moving east.
00:29There's some lightning there.
00:30We've been dealing with some strong thunderstorms in some areas that have led to flash flooding at midday today in
00:35Texas,
00:36near the Houston and, well, mainly near the Dallas area, but also into areas into San Patricio County
00:44and into the area around Corpus Christi.
00:47We had a 63-mile-per-hour gust at the airport, but also there were some instances with some flash
00:54flooding.
00:54And here you can see roadway was impassable just five or six miles from the Corpus Christi airport.
01:01We're dealing with some localized areas of minor flash flood concerns here and there,
01:06and also the risk of some more ponding of water on the roads and also lightning, bringing some of those
01:12hazards here.
01:12But these storms are pooling northwestward.
01:15You might say, what's going on?
01:16Looks like they're moving backwards here.
01:18They're actually being driven by an area of low-pressure aloft.
01:22Actually, there are separate zones here of low-pressure aloft.
01:26The storm moving near I-40 is actually moving east for now,
01:29but those to the north are being driven by the broad circulation around a zone of low-pressure.
01:35So we can kind of plot these here.
01:37And that's what's driving these storms, kind of in what might appear to be the opposite direction.
01:43Let's take a look at the rounds of rain that will continue to impact many areas across the south.
01:47Lots of areas in the deep green, localized flash flooding.
01:50But on the positive side, we have drought relief, which we do need.
01:54Current temps range from around 65 out to the west into Flagstaff, where we're a little breezy,
01:59and we have some fire danger concerns, to 92 south of there into Tucson, Arizona.
02:03Most of us are a little cooler than normal for this time of the year here in the 70s and
02:0780s in the southern plains
02:08because of these clouds, showers, and thunderstorms, slow movers out there over the next few days.
02:13And future radar and clouds will show a couple of episodes, some of these drawing north out of the gulf.
02:19Look at the rain there in New Orleans for part of the day Thursday.
02:22More storms to the west as well.
02:23Friday, we're going to see some nasty storms pop in the afternoon, Friday afternoon and evening,
02:27into west Texas, the Panhandle region, and then down to the south.
02:30Some of them will be strong to severe.
02:32So there's the green zone representing the rain potential, thunderstorms.
02:37But here's the severe weather risk area for Friday.
02:39Wind and hail are the main concerns for the Panhandles right down to the Permian Basin.
02:44And overall, beyond that, we're going to be dealing with some heat, but it's not going to be out of
02:48hand here.
02:4980s and some 90s on the map due to the extra moisture in the atmosphere.
02:53We're staying at or maybe even a smidge below normal in some of these areas.
