00:00This has been a deratio. I'm going to pull the map out and we can highlight the widespread nature of
00:06these winds.
00:07In fact, if I turn this back on, I'm going to just move the box out of the way here.
00:14And I wanted to illustrate how some of these widespread wind gusts reports were covering such a very, very broad
00:21area.
00:22So forgive the box on the side of the map, but we have had gusts of wind travel about 600
00:27miles from First Point to near Pike County, Kentucky now.
00:33So 614 miles separating the beginning and the end point.
00:37And we had a significant concentration of reports just south of Chicago into northwestern Indiana and areas like Kankakee County
00:45yet again with gusts of wind that were very fierce, very fierce winds.
00:49And we've had many reports like these with trees down and wires down.
00:53Here's Lexington, Kentucky, 6 miles west.
00:54That would put you real close to Keeneland near the airport with wind damage there.
00:59Large tree down very close to the airport or the Keeneland racetrack into Hurricane West Virginia.
01:05A downed tree fell onto Ashland Upland Road and other areas here.
01:10Jackson, Ohio, not too far from Hocking Hills.
01:13Trees down into parts of southern Ohio and Brown County.
01:17Numerous reports of trees down.
01:19Henry County of Ohio, we had reports of power poles down as well.
01:22And as we zoom up to the north, you can see Huntington, Indiana, house struck by lightning.
01:27There were smoke reports in the rafters.
01:30We are following a story out of the Cleveland Metro.
01:33There are reports of several injuries because of a lightning strike as well.
01:38A little bit of preliminary information there, not from Cleveland proper, but from the general metro from one lightning strike
01:44there.
01:44So we're going to learn more about that as information becomes available.
01:48So some areas had some strong winds, 54-mile-per-hour gusts, but others had tremendous winds.
01:52Roof damage there in Manteno, Illinois.
01:55Reports of numerous trees and power lines down.
01:57But here we had a 60-mile-per-hour gust in Dune Acres.
02:00But look at this one.
02:01A 99-mile-per-hour gust in Gary, Indiana.
02:05Incredible wind.
02:06The kind of wind that a lot of us never really experience.
02:10As we take a look at these storms rolling southeast, though, you can see they're reaching Letcher County and now
02:15moving into,
02:16and Pike County, Kentucky, and now moving into western parts of Virginia.
02:19So look out there near Lonesome Pine and Wise with these strong storms making a push through the mountains.
02:24Heading farther northwest.
02:26Louisville, you've kind of bypassed the worst of the storms earlier.
02:29There's some cool Mammatis clouds, by the way.
02:31But now new storms are approaching and tearing through the Bloomington area on the road down to Louisville.
02:36So Lexington, you already had your turn.
02:38Now Louisville is going to be up next with this next cluster of storms.
02:41And then as we go all the way west, I wanted to at least acknowledge some of these new storms
02:45just beginning to get going.
02:46There are watches associated with these, again, severe thunderstorm watches issued in two areas here in the northern plains near
02:54Rapid City
02:55and also up to the northwest of there.
02:56Isolated storms into an area near the James River Valley as well.
03:02All right, let's take a look at these top wind gusts.
03:04Incredible wind.
03:05We have five spots here in the Chicago metro that gusted over 90 miles per hour.
03:11That's a rarity there.
03:11And this is not just a rural wind gust on some mountain summit in Wyoming.
03:17Gary, Indiana, 99 mile per hour gust.
03:19Sugar Grove, 97.
03:20Shorewood, Illinois, 96 mile per hour gust.
03:22I mentioned the roof damage there or the building damage in Mokana, 91 mile per hour gust.
03:28And look at these outages here.
03:30Just incredible numbers.
03:31Over a million addresses without power between various states.
03:34And also, again, well over a million people.
03:37A lot of Mammatis clouds.
03:39Another great shot there from Olney, Maryland, by the way, from earlier.
03:43And that was from a few days ago.
03:46But we've had storm after storm.
03:47That was from yesterday.
03:48And now it's the Midwest and the Ohio Valley facing the worst of it.
03:52We're still over 80 percent of Lake County, Indiana.
03:55It's the northwesternmost county of Indiana without power right now.
03:58This is a very populated place.
04:01And to have most of that county without power, it's going to take a long time to get people back
04:05online.
04:05And then much of the area to the south of Chicago, that's an area where there are still many, many
04:13people with 30 to 40 percent of Will County.
04:16That's Will County, Illinois, without power right now.
04:19Robertson County, a lot of areas without power there.
04:23North of Estill County, I think that's Powell County, Kentucky.
04:26Still a lot of huge numbers of outages there, 80 percent.
04:30A little less populated there.
04:32I believe that's Powell County with just huge numbers there, not too far from Natural Bridge State Park.
04:38All right.
04:38We're dealing with some strong winds that continue one episode after the next.
04:43Just coming down the pike from west northwest to east southeast.
04:46A moderate risk of severe wind and flash flooding here for Indianapolis, Cincinnati.
04:52We've had that there in Cincinnati.
04:54You may have some more tonight.
04:55Louisville is going to be up next with this western cluster of storms that's just beginning to flare up northwest
05:00of Louisville into places around south central Indiana right now.
05:03And Charleston, West Virginia.
05:05You could face some flooding there.
05:07So tonight, storms push southeast.
05:09And another episode tonight, northwest to southeast.
05:12That could lead to some flash flooding because of the training.
05:15And there we get into the early part of Wednesday with more storms in Kentucky and Tennessee.
05:20So overnight tonight, more thunderstorms in Indianapolis, Louisville, Chicago, Des Moines, flash flooding possible into West Virginia.
05:27And tomorrow we have a smaller zone with a moderate risk.
05:31But it's still significant for damaging wind potential from Decatur to Louisville.
05:35But also flash flooding and some gusty winds even into the Carolinas all the way way east of the mountains
05:40to the coast.
05:41So flash flooding and also damaging wind will be the main issues tomorrow from central Illinois to west central Kentucky
05:46areas around Louisville where we have the greatest risk there for tomorrow.
05:50We showed you the short-term future radar and clouds.
05:53I wanted to take this a little farther down the line.
05:55So we get into the day tomorrow.
05:56You can see some action in Kentucky and the Ohio Valley.
05:58Then into the afternoon, Kansas City, one cluster of storms.
06:01But southern Indiana and Kentucky again facing heavy rain.
06:06Flash flood threats will be a big concern.
06:08And then we're going to do it again into Thursday in some parts of the Plains and the Ohio Valley.
06:13So very, very much repetitive.
06:14And here we have the risk for damaging wind, flash flooding, and some issues here in a widespread scale.
06:21This week, by the way, from Indiana to West Virginia, you can see the area in general with the risk
06:27of flash flooding.
06:28We're forecasting four to eight inches of rain.
06:30Now, some of this has already happened.
06:32Some is yet to fall through tomorrow and tomorrow night and even Thursday.
06:37But four to eight inches of rain in a widespread area like this from Fort Wayne down to Charleston, West
06:41Virginia, over four days, is a big deal.
