Soaking rain is leading to flash flooding in some areas, but a much lower tornado risk than earlier this week.
Transcript
00:00Ongoing storms continue to bring downpours to the region.
00:03Yes, certainly not seeing anything like last July's flooding,
00:05but we are seeing some flash flooding pop up in some places.
00:09The rain's going to start to wrap up, though,
00:11as we head into really the rest of the evening and the overnight.
00:14And here we are in Lakeway, Texas, not far from Austin,
00:16where there is a flood watch in effect right now.
00:20And you can see it's just low visibility rain,
00:22very heavy rain where even the trees there,
00:26maybe 50, 60 yards away, a little bit obscured by that heavy rain.
00:32So when the visibility drops like that, it's coming down.
00:34There is the risk for some flooding.
00:35We are seeing some ongoing flooding into areas near the Matagorda Bay
00:38and into Houston, Harris County flood watch in effect.
00:41Also flood watch is in effect from the north side of Calcasieu Parish
00:45up into areas around central, south-central Louisiana.
00:49Baton Rouge potentially seeing some of that.
00:51So we need to keep an eye out for this.
00:53This is a short-term issue, though.
00:54Within 18 hours, this is going to be a memory.
00:56Even within 12 hours, this will be out of here.
00:58So from Laredo to Victoria to areas southeast of Houston, Galveston,
01:03Beaumont, Port Arthur, areas around Cameron Parish,
01:05and all the way east to New Orleans and down to areas around Empire,
01:08we are facing a risk for severe storms, hail, and damaging winds,
01:12along with very heavy rain, the main concerns.
01:14We're not expecting much of a tornado threat with this current situation.
01:18But the heavy rain, in some ways, it's fantastic news there.
01:22Look at this.
01:22We're getting that 2-4-inch zone into Georgia.
01:24That's good news there.
01:25But to the west, we don't need more rain in some parts of Texas.
01:28Your results will vary there in parts of the Lone Star State.
01:32There are some areas under drought, some areas with no drought,
01:34but areas around Houston and points north seeing some drenching downpours
01:38as this rumbles east and then late tonight.
01:41Here we are at 11 p.m. central time.
01:43We're wrapped up at that point for I-35.
01:46Still rain lingers into areas around Louisiana and Mississippi,
01:49and some of that rain is going to be widespread.
01:51Weak secondary disturbances just enough to spark some spotty showers tomorrow morning
01:55in Oklahoma City and Norman.
01:57That likely will not make it past Denison or Sherman,
02:00and we're looking dry for Dallas for the most part.
02:03Then into Sunday, dry and cool out there for most of the crowd, at least in the morning.
02:07So pleasant weather Saturday.
02:09Much drier, breezy with that offshore wind that's transporting Canadian air
02:12all the way down into parts of Texas.
02:15Gorgeous day tomorrow, mid-70s.
02:17This really is like five-star weather following this storm system.
