Severe storms rumbling across Texas on Thursday led to a flash flood emergency.
Transcript
00:00There's a secondary band with a true front that's well west out into areas near Wichita Falls,
00:05but the larger concentrated area of thunderstorms continues to roll through Dallas and eastward now.
00:10And turning the flood alerts on, these are the warnings.
00:14Flash flood warnings have recently been in effect farther west.
00:17The beginning of this loop here shows that almost like sea green type color.
00:21That was the flash flood emergency in Menard County and nearby areas.
00:25And again, there's still been a lot of lightning out there.
00:27Thankfully, we've been avoiding the worst of the severe weather potential when it comes to, say, a tornado threat.
00:33But we do need to keep an eye out for the risk of damaging winds and a slim, limited risk of isolated tornadoes.
00:39Look at that flooding there in Rockwall, Texas.
00:41Pretty wild stuff from earlier this morning.
00:45And again, we've had some problems as the area continues to face some fairly heavy rain.
00:50So there are flood warnings, aerial flood warnings.
00:53You might wonder what's that all about.
00:54Those are just generic flood warnings for high water, even if you're not near a typical stream or creek.
00:59Then the other deep green flood warnings, those are for streams or creeks that are running high, including in Dallas.
01:04That was actually precipitated by the first round of rain earlier today.
01:08So near I-35, still a two out of four risk, moderate risk here on the AccuWeather four-tiered severe threat index.
01:15Damaging wind, somewhat of an argument there for medium risk.
01:18But flooding has been the main issue here with this today.
01:20And we'll continue to track this as it rolls east tomorrow.
01:24Lingering showers and storms Houston into Memphis.
01:27And again, improvements will follow.
01:29But even tonight, this is four in the morning on Friday.
01:33We have concerns about these thunderstorms kind of still lingering in parts of the Hill Country and moving east.
01:38So until we really get dry later on Friday, we still have the concerns of some residual flooding.
01:44We've been saturated.
01:45But, Anna, I see another round of rain coming in on Sunday.
01:48And this is born out of the California storm system that you're tracking right now.
