00:00How did you sleep last night? Was it a bit too warm, a bit too sticky perhaps?
00:05Well, you may be glad to hear that things are set to turn fresher through the next 24 hours or
00:10so.
00:10As we head into the weekend, we are going to see our temperatures dropping.
00:13But with that, there will be a bit of rain around and actually some hefty showers,
00:18which could cause some localised issues. More on that in a second.
00:22For the time being, yes, it's a dry start for many places.
00:25Just across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, there's a few outbreaks of rain.
00:30Through the day, those outbreaks of rain are going to merge, become some longer, more persistent rain,
00:34particularly across northern and western parts of Scotland.
00:37But here we are going to see it mostly becoming confined to northern areas later on.
00:42In fact, across Northern Ireland, things will be brightening up quite nicely by the afternoon.
00:46Meanwhile, across southern, southeastern parts of England, there will be some showery outbreaks of rain.
00:51Elsewhere, lots of dry, sunny weather to be had.
00:54But as I mentioned, there is fresher air coming in.
00:57So temperatures will be markedly lower for most of us than they have been recently.
01:01In fact, after six consecutive days where temperatures in the UK have exceeded 30 Celsius,
01:07I think today is going to be the first day where we don't see that happen.
01:10That being said, in parts of the far southeast, we could see temperatures in the high 20s perhaps.
01:15So still feeling pretty hot here.
01:18Any showery rain across parts of the southeast will clear through this evening.
01:21So turning drier here and most of the rain across Scotland will clear through the evening as well,
01:26leaving things drier for a time as we go overnight.
01:29But then another front comes into parts of Northern Ireland and later western parts of Scotland
01:34as we head into dawn tomorrow morning.
01:37But elsewhere, lots of dry weather.
01:39We do have that fresher air now.
01:40And so temperatures through this coming night are not as high as they have been through some recent nights.
01:46Not especially fresh or chilly by any means, but just perhaps not quite as uncomfortable.
01:51And so that may be welcome news if you have been struggling to sleep recently.
01:55So we wake up on Saturday morning to quite a bright start for many, particularly across England and Wales.
02:01Cloudier towards the far west, northwest.
02:03And that's because of that front that pushes its way in.
02:05That's going to bring more rain across Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland in particular,
02:09through the day tomorrow.
02:11And eventually we'll push into some western parts of England and Wales
02:13and spread across pretty much the whole of Scotland.
02:17Elsewhere for much of England and Wales away from the far west,
02:20actually having a decent fine day.
02:22Lots of sunshine on offer, perhaps a bit more sunshine than today in some places.
02:27And temperatures, well, similar-ish really.
02:29Mid to possibly high 20s towards the southeast, 30 Celsius.
02:33Can't be ruled out.
02:34Further northwest with the cloud, the rain, some blustery winds a fair bit fresher than this,
02:39though temperatures still around or a little bit above average for the time of year.
02:45Looking further ahead and into Sunday,
02:47well, the slightly more unsettled, changeable theme looks likely to continue.
02:51A fair amount of cloud.
02:53There'll be outbreaks of showery rain, some longer spells of rain, perhaps.
02:56And just worth bearing in mind, some of these showers,
02:58we still have a fair amount of energy from all the heat.
03:01So some of them could turn a bit heavy, could even be a little bit thundery.
03:04But yes, less sunshine than we've seen of late and lower temperatures as well.
03:08High teens or low 20s, really, at best.
03:10I mean, those temperatures are very near average, even a little bit above,
03:14just markedly down compared to what we've had through much of this week.
03:19Into next week, and that slightly fresher theme looks likely to continue with more changeable weather.
03:24And so even though it is the start of meteorological summer,
03:27it's definitely not going to be as hot as it has been recently.
03:30But for more information about all that, well, join us for our weather studio live at 12.15.
03:34Annie and I will be going through all the details.
03:36See you later. Bye-bye.
