00:00You know, I'm sitting around last night, and I actually was at a brewery last night watching it.
00:03It was different because, you know, I've done all kinds of, like, I've been on site.
00:09I've been, you know, I was at the, when the draft was here, I was down there.
00:12I've, you know, I covered it in media rooms, stuff like that.
00:15It was actually the first time, I think, that I've ever really been, and I've been to people's houses before,
00:19but I've never really sat in a brewery or do any of this stuff last night.
00:22And it was unique.
00:23It was interesting.
00:24It was fun because the people that I was sitting with and the people around me,
00:29we all kind of, like, it was like being at a game.
00:32And to sit there and listen to what people had to say throughout, and, you know, there's this Buckeye love,
00:36and, you know, I'm kind of a Buckeye homer, and everybody knows that, too.
00:39And, you know, I wish they would have taken, I wish they would have drafted Ohio State.
00:44In fact, Tropical Storm looked at me, and there was just,
00:47what do the Browns always hate the Buckeyes?
00:48And I'm like, they don't.
00:49This regime doesn't, but they used to.
00:51And I agree with you.
00:53And when I look back at the draft from last night, and I'm just curious to get more of your
00:56thoughts on this, too,
00:58like, I thought they did a good job last night.
01:01I'm not going to lose my you-know-what over what happened last night
01:06because I think we all know they needed an offensive lineman,
01:09and we all know they needed a wide receiver.
01:11And if they were going to draft Fano at 6,
01:16and they were able to make a move and pick up some extra picks along the way
01:20and get him at 9, then bravo.
01:22That was a good call.
01:23That was a good move.
01:24And, like, I'm listening to people just, you and Moan all morning about,
01:30ugh, they don't know what they're doing.
01:31We got the worst guy.
01:32He had one good draft last year.
01:33Now he doesn't know what he's doing.
01:34Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
01:35And I'm even listening to people in the media do it, too.
01:37And I'm like, you know what?
01:39You don't know.
01:41You don't know.
01:42I don't know.
01:44I don't care who you are.
01:45You may have been a coach in the NFL before.
01:47You may have been a general manager in the NFL before.
01:50You may be a guy that watches football every other Sunday,
01:53and then you're mad at the Browns by week six.
01:56You don't know.
01:57It's all a crapshoot.
01:59And would I like to see them take a buck?
02:01Yeah, yeah, it would have been great.
02:02It would have been awesome.
02:03I love Ohio State.
02:05They didn't.
02:06I'm not going to let that affect the way I feel about it.
02:09But they needed an offensive lineman.
02:12And you're blind if you didn't see that.
02:15You're absolutely blind.
02:17And they need wide receivers.
02:19And they did both of those things last night.
02:21They picked up some extra picks.
02:23Am I going to do cartwheels over what they did last night?
02:26No, I'm not.
02:27But I'm also somebody that sat here and would have been okay with taking a tight end.
02:32Dan and I had talked about that.
02:34I would have been great with a running back.
02:36Had the running back made it to, you know, the fifth pick or sixth pick.
02:40Sorry.
02:40I just – anyone who's sitting here today going,
02:43oh, this was an A or this was an F, you're an idiot.
02:47I'm sorry.
02:48You just can't.
02:49And that's my own brethren in the media too.
02:52Like, you've got to watch this thing play out.
02:54Plus, you have a new coach.
02:55How do you know how this thing's going to play out?
02:57You don't.
02:58You don't.
02:59But the one group of people that I was looking at last night as we were –
03:03as the draft was progressing,
03:05is there was a group of people and there was two guys sitting there
03:08with Shador Sanders shirts on.
03:10And to be honest,
03:11and I don't know what Shador Sanders is even going to be
03:13because I don't know what I saw last year.
03:16But they were happy.
03:17And you know what?
03:18I'm happy for them.
03:20Because we got somebody on the offensive line that,
03:22whether it's Sanders or anybody else who's playing quarterback,
03:25that might actually be able to block.
03:27And I also don't want to hear,
03:28hey, play right side, play left side, play right side.
03:30You don't know.
03:31You don't know.
03:33Well, that's the great thing, too.
03:34And this is a guy who actually has played on the left side
03:36for so much of his career, right?
03:37Yeah.
03:38He played a full season at Utah on the left side before Lomu came in.
03:41And this is the other side of it.
03:43There's so many arguments of – and I'm with you.
03:45We don't know.
03:45I could sit here and say an A.
03:46I thought it was based on what I thought you had to address.
03:49I thought it was a near-perfect draft.
03:51You went and got the tackle.
03:52You got the wide receiver.
03:53I agree with you.
03:54Both guys who I think I watched on tape.
03:55Like, I was very out on Caden Proctor
03:57because there was effort concerns there, right?
04:00And, like, there was size concerns.
04:01Like, those are the type of things that'll –
04:03I don't want that guy.
04:04But in terms of players, I thought you got really good ones.
04:07And you got guys who fit what this offense is currently building to be.
04:10I mentioned it in the first couple segments.
04:12Offensive line.
04:13This entire offensive line has been built on versatility.
04:15What did you get?
04:16A guy they think can play all five spots on the offensive line.
04:19You went and needed a wide receiver.
04:21Who has Todd Munkin shown in the NFL level he can work with?
04:23Zay Flowers, you got a guy who, I mean, is comparable to Zay Flowers.
04:29Undersized, can line up in multiple spots,
04:30and can make something happen when the ball is in his hands.
04:33You – actually, for once, which I think you can make an argument
04:36they probably didn't do this well enough with Kevin
04:38because Kevin was very scheme-oriented, scheme-heavy,
04:41and they drafted guys like Sed Tillman, who I don't think fit the offense.
04:43They went and picked up guys like Isaiah Bond,
04:45who I don't think had the greatest role in the offense.
04:47This looks like two players that you actually armed Todd Munkin with
04:52that he would like.
04:53Like, is that not what we're looking for?
04:55It's two players that you think can be good,
04:57and you arm your head coach that there's going to be something
04:59you can work with.
05:01I'm with you, brother.
05:02And the other thing, too, is, like, I want to hear what people have to say today.
05:06I do care.
05:07Did the Browns turn you off so bad last night that you were done?
05:11And if they would have taken Ty Simpson, I would have thrown up on the spot.
05:15I would have been very angry.
05:17Because I just, you already have drama and chaos in your quarterback room right now.
05:22And Ty Simpson wasn't going to help any of that stuff.
05:25I was actually kind of, were you shocked when the Rams took Simpson?
05:27Oh, I mean, I was jaw-dropped.
05:29Like, I did, too.
05:30I was just like, what's going on here?
05:31Maybe there was a chance they traded up late.
05:33Taking it 13, I thought was crazy.
05:34By the way, for a team who was knocking on the doorstep to competing for a Super Bowl last year,
05:39and instead of giving Matt Stafford more help on that team,
05:42you went, oh, we're going to draft your replacement early.
05:45Yeah, I'm sure I'm like a lot of people that woke up in Northeast Ohio and say,
05:48well, Caleb Downs is there.
05:49They should have took him.
05:50They should have took him.
05:51They should have took him.
05:51Okay.
05:52Maybe they should have took him.
05:53I would have been happy if they did, by the way.
05:55I don't think anybody would have been mad.
05:57And you're going to sit around and you're going to play Wheel of Regret when it comes to Caleb Downs.
06:02You're probably going to play Wheel of Regret saying, oh, they could have had Sonny Styles.
06:06Oh, they could have had Jordan Tyson.
06:07Right?
06:08You're going to sit there and do that because that's what you do because you're Browns fans.
06:12You know what?
06:13Let's all, at some point, and I'm not saying hop on the bandwagon,
06:16but if this team ever won, we would stop playing Wheel of Regret with the draft.
06:22Just get it together and win.
06:24And I don't know what this is going to look like down the road,
06:27but I do know they did pick up some more picks.
06:30Let's see what they do with those.
06:31Let's see how bad, you know, maybe they screw that up too.
06:34Maybe everything's a mess.
06:35And, you know, we read that athletic article yesterday about what Paul D.
06:39Podesta's plan was and how that went sideways.
06:42And just give me some clarity.
06:45Give me a team that's going to walk out there every Sunday and not embarrass the name of Cleveland.
06:52Please, is that asking too much?
06:54I like that you brought up Paul D.
06:55Podesta's because I think this is interesting.
06:57Like, the two drafts where you can clearly argue he had the least of his hand in is last year,
07:02which was a complete success by Andrew Barry.
07:04Right.
07:05And this year where we're standing there going, well, the picks made sense.
07:08Oh, my God.
07:09They didn't like, they didn't act like they were, when they made the trade, I said to myself,
07:14are we going down this, are we the smartest guy in the room thing?
07:17But if you believe, and I do believe that if Fano was available at six, they were going to take
07:23him at six.
07:24Do you believe that?
07:25Yeah, I think that was, I mean, Andrew Barry talked about it.
07:27And listen, you can only believe so much when you take a guy what they actually were going to do.
07:31Right.
07:31But it was, he was the guy identified early.
07:34I think that's, if they didn't get an offer at six, they were probably just going to go,
07:37well, he was the guy that we wanted.
07:39Let's just draft him here.
07:40Might be a little bit higher than we wanted, but it's the player we want.
07:43I actually was at the point when they were sitting at nine, knowing that Downs was there.
07:47I was like, if they're not going to take Downs, maybe we trade back again.
07:51I thought that was a possibility too.
07:54I just, I'm a tiny bit aggravated at the negativity on this one.
07:59Um, but they did what they were supposed to do.
08:01Like it's, this isn't bang your head against the wall and go, oh my God, they took a kicker at
08:06nine.
08:06Right.
08:07Yeah.
08:07This wasn't a, what was it from the fan mock draft?
08:10Dominic Zavada, the Michigan kicker.
08:11We didn't get that.
08:12It's somebody who picked one of their buddies, kids who played somewhere who like probably never stepped on the field
08:17or not.
08:17I just, I look at the whole situation.
08:19I try to like figure out what they did and I, I can't be mad.
08:24I mean, it's, you want to say they're, you're Matt, Matt, would this be a good Dan Manigan Matt moment?
08:30I, you've got to wait to see what's going to happen here.
08:34And I'm not going to, you know what, all over this thing, you know, you and I, I think you
08:38were on the same page.
08:39I wouldn't have been mad if they would have traded back one more time and taken Kenny and Sadiq.
08:43Like, I was like, yeah, you and I, yeah, after Sal Palantonio said that to the two of us, you
08:48and I both perked up and went, Ooh, I didn't think of that.
08:52Or if they would have taken Lemon, I mean, did you want Lemon?
08:55What were, what were you, I would have been cool with Makai Lemon.
08:57Yeah.
08:57I would have been cool with him too.
08:58I thought it was interesting.
08:59Actually, when the Eagles traded up and took him, I was like, I was about the same, what it would
09:03have taken for the Browns to trade up.
09:04And I, I think you get a very similar player between the two of them.
09:07Lemon is the higher ceiling guy.
09:09So if they would have traded up and got it, sure.
09:10But they also stuck at 24 and it depends what their evaluations are.
09:14Like maybe they liked Casey more than they liked Lemon.
09:16Like we don't know what the Browns big board in the war room looks like right now.
09:21Maybe Lemon was a guy.
09:22I mean, I certainly liked him less after his combine stunt that he had with the weird face and answering
09:27questions and then running the drilling correctly.
09:29Like it turned me off from Makai Lemon a little bit, but maybe it did for them too.
09:34I don't know.
09:34Or maybe they just didn't want to move up again.
09:36And they felt Casey's going to fall.
09:37We're either going to get Casey or Makai.
09:39And we're good with that.
09:39Dan, what was the reaction in here last night?
09:41Cause I know you were here last night.
09:43I don't, the people I was around weren't like, they were like, okay, I get it.
09:47I get it.
09:47No one's doing backflips over a left tackle.
09:49No, you're not.
09:50You know, I mean, that's, that's kind of the way that this goes is it's, you know, very much.
09:55It's, it's the equivalent.
09:57If you've ever gotten your basement done before, like you have to do it.
10:01There's water coming in.
10:02You have to make sure the water isn't coming in, but you're never going to bring anybody over and go,
10:05look at what I've done.
10:06My basement no longer has water in it.
10:08And now I have dirt like that's, that's really what it is.
10:11That's getting a left tackle.
10:12It's not sexy, but you have to do it and you have to keep your quarterback upright.
10:16I agree.
10:16I agree.
10:17I like, I am, I'm good.
10:19I don't know if you are, but I'm good with what they did in the first round.
10:23Will I regret that down the road?
10:24Who knows?
10:25Maybe I will.
10:26But as of today, you want your instant feedback.
10:29You want your instant grades from people who think they're all knowing, all powerful, and they can see into the
10:34future, man, get me that DeLorean and let me know what these guys are going to look like in two
10:38or three years.
10:38And then I'll come back and I'll be an expert because nobody, I don't care who you are.
10:43You're not an expert on what the Browns, you know, are going to look like down the road based on
10:47what happened.
10:48You think you are, you're not because we haven't seen any of these guys play together.
10:52And again, I throw in another coach and you got to wonder where they're going with this thing.
