00:00Now the game plan is for Shador and he's going to have this really big opportunity on Sunday and candidly,
00:05I'm excited for it.
00:06Like I am really candidly on me there.
00:08Well, Jimmy has like I genuinely like this game has a little bit more juice for me now than it
00:14would have significantly more.
00:16But like the funny thing about that is that the game because of where the Browns are right now still
00:20had juice.
00:21It did.
00:21Like it's not as if we're talking about this the way I thought we'd be talking about this before the
00:25season got underway,
00:26which is you just it's a slow drip and nothing's happening.
00:30And then this is the spark that gets everyone in like Browns fans didn't need a reason to be in
00:34on Sunday.
00:34George Sanders playing is not the reason why Browns fans are watching on Sunday.
00:38And that's very different than I at least forecasted when I was thinking about the season.
00:42I don't know a couple months ago.
00:43Great.
00:43You're tuned in on Sunday, not for Shador, but because you want to make sure the Browns aren't going to
00:47go to five and four.
00:48You know, you don't want to make sure next week you're you're not playing to be five.
00:52Well, you're tasked to do something that a lot of different teams across the NFL have already done this year,
00:56which is now our backup quarterbacks in.
00:58I always think good backup quarterbacks win 50 percent of the games.
01:01I'm good teams.
01:02Good backup quarterbacks win 50 percent of those games.
01:05I think starters win about 65 percent on good teams.
01:07And so like the question there is Ken Shador Sanders in one game.
01:12Can we be on the right side of that?
01:13And can he actually get the job done this week?
01:15Yeah, I think I'm excited about it again just because of the situation that last year like he was throwing
01:21the football.
01:21The Sal Cannella and Gage Larva, Dan, and this year it's just going to be a little bit different with
01:26Concepcion and Boston and Fannin.
01:28We've established we're both excited.
01:30OK, we've established that.
01:31What are your actual expectations, though?
01:33I think it goes well.
01:35My actual expectation is that it goes well.
01:37Well or great.
01:39What is what is well to you?
01:40I think they win.
01:41And I think there's a real conversation after the game.
01:44What do you do?
01:45Really?
01:46Wait, so you think like the moment that this ends as Andrew Siciliano and Gerard Cherry and Nathan Zagura are
01:51sending it back to Jeff Phelps.
01:52And I'm just going to plug everybody.
01:54OK, we're just going to get on the whole entire thing.
01:56They're setting it to the postgame show with Tyvus Powell and Jeff Phelps.
01:59You think first caller out of the gate is Shador Sanders must be your starter moving forward.
02:04I do.
02:04I do.
02:04I think there will be that conversation after this game.
02:07I don't know why I feel that way.
02:09It is just a gut feeling after what's been a bizarre Browns week.
02:12I just feel like what Munkin's strength is as a coach.
02:16He showed us this with Deshaun over the first eight weeks of the year is making things as quarterback friendly
02:22as he possibly could.
02:23I felt like the first eight weeks his game plan for Deshaun has been really solid.
02:28It's get the ball out fast and let Concepcion fan in and the guys do the job when they get
02:34the football in their hands.
02:35And where Deshaun is now failing, he's not getting in the end zone enough.
02:39His red zone percentage is one of the worst in the NFL.
02:41They obviously, he hasn't thrown a touchdown pass in three games for a reason.
02:45Wow.
02:45They're not finishing these drives.
02:47And there's a lot of drives they have that aren't even good.
02:49But the ones that are good, he's not finishing off.
02:52And I hope that's the difference for Shador this week.
02:54I hope you take a lot of the same templates that Deshaun is using, getting the ball out quick, like
02:58you suggest,
02:58finding the guys that can create a lot after the catch.
03:02That's Casey Concepcion in particular.
03:04Using the deep ball for Denzel Boston when you need to as well.
03:06But finishing these drives is just something that Deshaun Watson is just lacking in right now.
03:11I also wonder, and again, this is just, we're talking, this is a marketplace of ideas.
03:17The one thing that's eluded us, even with Deshaun and the credit that he does deserve for winning five games
03:22for the Browns,
03:23the complete game, how crazy would it feel if Shador Sanders is the guy that could give you a complete
03:30game
03:31where it starts strong, it ends strong, and you don't have any heart papillations in the middle of it?
03:36I think that would go a long way for Browns fans, and I wonder how far it goes with the
03:40coaching staff.
03:41I do got to ask you, what's your phone calls in a second at 216-474-0092?
03:44What's at stake for Shador this weekend?
03:46Did you get a lot of tweets after Shador played four snaps this weekend the same way I did?
03:51Yeah, but you know what?
03:53You're a Shador guy, I'm a Shador guy.
03:54I've got the mentions turned on.
03:56How'd it look?
03:57How'd he look?
03:57I just said that.
03:59It was forced.
03:59He threw it twice.
04:01I thought it was ridiculous.
04:01He threw it twice.
04:02Yeah, I thought it was absolutely ridiculous.
04:03And listen, you chirp at me all you want.
04:05This is part of the deal.
04:06It's part of the job.
04:07I have no problem with that.
04:09I just thought it was fascinating.
04:10Like, of all times, like, the four snaps, that's what everyone is going to be chirping after?
04:15Yeah, I don't get that.
04:17That's the chirp?
04:18And I know that there are a lot of people, Jonathan, that made their entire stance this
04:23week based on, oh, he didn't look ready.
04:25Those two throws, it was a frazzled operation.
04:28My gosh, talk about reading way too much into that.
04:29It's going to be a meltdown in New Orleans.
04:31He doesn't know what he's doing.
04:32There was so much of that panic.
04:34The same people that are like, you can't judge Luke Fahey at Indiana because that's a ridiculous
04:37spot to be put in are the same people that are like, well, four snaps at your door.
04:41You guys saw it.
04:42You saw everything you needed to see, right?
04:44Being called into that game while Deshaun's in the blue tent.
04:47I guess we're on to Dylan Gabriel.
04:49Crazy town stuff this week.
04:51It really was.
04:51But I do think that, you know, common sense prevailed.
04:55They didn't try to rush Deshaun through the protocol to get him to play this game.
04:59Now, maybe he still clears protocol and he's the backup for this game, but I do think common
05:03sense prevailed.
05:04We're going to get to see Shador.
05:05And to me, it's all on how it starts.
05:07If you could start fast in this game, you're going to be set up really nicely.
05:112-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
05:13Doug and Canton up next.
05:14Hello, Doug.
05:15Hey, Jonathan and Nick.
05:17How are you guys doing today?
05:18Good.
05:18How are you?
05:20Good.
05:21Hey, I think Shador Sanders will play good this Sunday.
05:26What do you guys think?
05:27Yeah, I mean, Doug, that's kind of what we're kind of chopping it up about and appreciate
05:31the phone call as always.
05:32I'm curious to know whether or not people think it's going to be that, a good week for
05:36Shador, if it's going to be something that you just look up and go, huh, guess we have
05:42a lot of work ahead of us.
05:43Much of this is perfect storm, too, JP, that I have very little faith in New Orleans defense.
05:48Because I do think if this is Shador starting in Pittsburgh, I maybe don't have the same
05:53overly positive feelings that I have.
05:56I also have something going with this Browns team, where every time that they're humiliated,
06:00they do respond in a major way.
06:02Where week one, you got your absolute doors blown off in Jacksonville, and you rattle off
06:07three in a row.
06:07And then week two, you lost a rainy game, which was weird.
06:11At MetLife Stadium, you probably should have won it, because you were way more talented
06:14and you had an opportunity to win it at the end.
06:17And then you respond with a statement win against the Ravens.
06:20So there is something to be said about the resiliency of this young team.
06:23That's close to my Guardians take.
06:25All year long, I kept saying, every time the Guardians just seemed like they were,
06:29I can't believe in this team.
06:31They're giving me nothing right now.
06:32They'd respond with a massive win, or they'd respond with something that then gave you
06:36some semblance of life.
06:37You think this Browns team has that same thing?
06:39I mean, so far, after both of their losses, they've rattled off multiple wins in a row.
06:44So here we go, Shador, come on.
06:46All right, Brendan and Canton up next.
06:47Hello, Brendan.
06:49Hey, guys.
06:50What's going on?
06:50Hey, man, how are you?
06:52We're doing Friday.
06:54So just a couple things here, and I'll be quick.
06:57But maybe, just maybe, we're saying, well, we don't have that great of a run game.
07:02That's not helping Deshaun.
07:04Maybe Deshaun isn't helping the run game.
07:06They don't fear our quarterback.
07:07He's 28th in the league.
07:09I mean, I don't know.
07:10I just chicken or the egg type stuff.
07:12Second thing, this is simple math.
07:14I'm not a Shador guy by any means.
07:16I mean, whatever.
07:18Let's win.
07:19But there was no upside to Sergeant Deshaun to begin with.
07:22None whatsoever.
07:24It just doesn't work.
07:25Now we have two guys who people are going, oh, are we going to re-sign them?
07:29One of these guys will still have a shot in the league.
07:31The other might be in Canadian football, and that's Deshaun.
07:34So there was no, and the last part of this is our five and two start.
07:39As a proud Bobcat, I'd like to say this is like being really good in the MAAC.
07:42We're not going to compete for anything serious, but it's a fun ride.
07:46But I think we're making too much out of this cupcake schedule.
07:49Yeah, that might end up being the end result.
07:51And thank you, Brendan.
07:51And there's a lot there to unpack.
07:53I mean, listen, I'm not going to get mad at fans for getting excited for thinking it
07:56was going to be a bad season, and then it ends up being a much better season than they
07:59anticipate, right?
08:00Especially at five and two was very fun.
08:02Now, where Brendan is is where I tend to live in sports in general.
08:05I tend to live into the context of things and figuring out whether what is sustainable,
08:08what isn't sustainable, how much of this is just a one-off, how much of this is something
08:12you can move forward with.
08:14And to that point, yeah, are we going to have the easiest schedule in the NFL every single
08:17year?
08:18Probably not.
08:19And look at our schedule remaining.
08:20It's pretty easy, all things considered.
08:22So, yes, there is going to be some wins that are just baked into that.
08:25But I think most logical people, when having these discussions, are sitting all with that
08:30understanding.
08:31Like, nobody at this point is saying the Browns are going to end up in the Super Bowl.
08:33Nobody's saying that the Browns are going to go on a deep postseason run.
08:36You're either saying, I hope they make it to the playoffs, and that'd be sweet.
08:39And if they don't, there'll be like a ring below that, and that's also much better than
08:45the five wins we thought this year was going to be.
08:46Yeah, way better than what we thought that this year was going to be.
08:49I look at what Brendan said at the beginning of that call.
08:52Yeah, you were pretty pumped up there.
08:54I do wonder, the whole ability to go under center, the willingness to go under center, the
09:01difference between Shador and Deshaun as it relates to that.
09:05Obviously, Shador is a quarterback that's going to want to operate out of the shotgun
09:08the same way that Deshaun wants to.
09:10He's a gunslinger.
09:11He's going to want to throw it around the ball yard.
09:13The Saints, Jonathan, though, 32nd.
09:16They are dead last in the National Football League against teams that go under center.
09:21The Browns have looked their best running the football when they go under the center this
09:26year.
09:26It's something that Watson just doesn't love to do, and it's something that Sanders is more
09:30open to doing because he found some all right success with it with Kevin last year.
09:34Yeah, that's a good point.
09:35We'll obviously keep an eye on that.
09:36216-474-0092.
09:38Christian up next.
09:39Hello, Christian.
09:40Hey, how's it going?
09:42Hey, man.
09:42How are you?
09:43Good, good.
09:44Hey, I got to throw out there as a proud Bobcat, like the last guy.
09:48Mac football, phenomenal.
09:49But on top of that, I think Shador is going to look a lot better under center, like you
09:53guys said.
09:54And also, he feels a lot more poised in the pocket, like when you see him, too.
09:58He cut back on the running backwards 12 yards and trying to spin out a sacks four times,
10:05where Deshaun, I mean, his pocket presence hasn't been the greatest.
10:08I know the pocket's not the strongest, but not taking 12-step drops is going to cut down
10:15on the sacks a little bit.
10:16And I'm interested to see how he connects with other young guys.
10:19Yeah, I mean, it's going to be fun.
10:20And thank you, Christian.
10:21I appreciate you.
10:22And that's part of the point, though, is the advanced analytical people really do believe
10:27that sacks are a quarterback stat.
10:30They're not an offensive line stat.
10:31I know we've really gotten into the idea of just blaming the offensive line because
10:35they look pretty bad at certain points of this season.
10:37And we all kind of had that thought that it wasn't going to go particularly well.
10:41But Deshaun's got a history of sacks.
10:43He led the league in sacks in Houston at one point.
10:46He's got to, you know, it's not as if Shador's got a clean slate either.
10:49And so if I'm going to say a couple of things for Shador and how I want this game to
10:52go and
10:53maybe look different is that you can't be having the sacks the same way that Deshaun did
10:57and the way he's had at times in his career.
10:59And the triple T, the time to throw.
11:01You've got to get the ball out quick, which has been something that Shador has historically
11:05struggled with.
11:06Yeah.
11:06When you look back to his time, even at Colorado, the drifting back in the pocket instead of
11:12the stepping up in the pocket was one of the huge red flags on his scouting report coming
11:17out of the NFL draft.
11:18Even when people thought he was going to be the second pick in the draft, people said,
11:21well, the one flaw in his game is he holds onto it for a long time and he takes some
11:25pretty
11:25long sacks.
11:26And we've seen this year.
11:27Deshaun Watson has taken 33.
11:29He's the most sack quarterback in football right now.
11:32He just took eight sacks last week.
11:34And come on, not all of those are on the offensive line.
11:37So I do think, again, if you're looking for ways to extract how this showing could be better
11:42for Shador than what we've seen out of Deshaun, get the ball out of the hands fast.
11:46Don't take as many bad sacks as Watson's taken.
11:49And I think we'll leave this game thinking, okay, maybe this did look a little bit differently
11:53than what we've been watching.
11:54You might've been a dangerous host for me.
11:56Am I selling you a little bit here, Jonathan?
11:58Am I selling you on it?
11:59You are not the right guy to host.
12:01No, because they need me to be at least calm and measured when it comes to Shador, which
12:04I never am.
12:05I never am.
12:06I'm always accused of being the guy that goes over the top for Shador.
12:09And I have been, I have been dancing a very delicate line for like months on end because
12:15we haven't seen him play.
12:16We haven't seen him out there play in 10 months.
12:18Been a long eight weeks in the Shador Sanders department.
12:19It's been a real long time with no actual content.
12:22And so I've just been living in this, this, this, I don't know, this like icebox of shame
12:26almost of like, all right, I don't know if he's going to be anything.
12:28I don't know if this is going to work out.
12:29I don't know what this is going to look like.
12:31And then you come rolling in here and you're trying to convince me that the post game show
12:35is going to be one big Shador needs to start show.
12:39And I don't know what to do with that information.
12:42Everything set up for him to look good.
12:44It is.
12:44Everything is set up for him to look good.
12:49You got to look good.
12:49You still have to look good.
12:51And there's been times before where we've said everything set up for Shador to look good
12:54and he face plants and that is sticking in the back of my brain.
12:57You're a dangerous guy to host with today.
12:59I'll tell you that.
