00:00Asking you guys if he's going to have a long leash in this game,
00:02he being Shador Sanders, because the thing I just can't get out of my brain,
00:06and I hate this for Shador, by the way.
00:08I don't love this.
00:08You want to go into a game feeling like you got the whole entire slate,
00:11good or bad, but this almost feels like Saban in the national title game
00:16where it's like, at halftime, do I have to make a move?
00:18Do I not?
00:19If Deshaun gets cleared at some point in the next 24 hours
00:22through the concussion protocol, is Munkin just going to start Shador
00:25and then, I don't know, see how it goes and then bring Deshaun off the bench?
00:28You think Munkin watched the Saban documentary and just got an intrusive thought?
00:33Like, hey, I know how I could.
00:34They keep asking me about these slow starts.
00:36I know how I could get a spark.
00:38What's funny about that is both Jalen Hurts and Tua turned out to be decent pros.
00:41Yeah.
00:41It was what it was, depending what you think about Timu Tua at all.
00:45I just need to see, like, what happens with Deshaun tomorrow.
00:48You know, can he even clear through this protocol?
00:50Is he even going to be active for game day?
00:52I don't know.
00:52It feels like he's probably going to be, right?
00:54It feels that way, yeah, if they have him questionable right now.
00:56And there's still, obviously, steps he has to go through and clear.
01:00He's on step four, I believe, of the protocol right now.
01:02Yeah, like, I got to imagine.
01:04And the protocol to me is, I don't know.
01:07I have thoughts about that.
01:08You can play with it whatever way you want to.
01:10Yeah.
01:10I have a distrust of the protocol.
01:13I do, too.
01:13It feels defiable.
01:14Well, I just, I mean, this is, and there's reasons why, and I know it's better in recent
01:19years, obviously.
01:20But for the longest time growing up, anything involving NFL teams and doctors, and especially
01:24the independent doctors that really loved being employed by NFL teams, you basically
01:28could make it whatever you wanted.
01:30And so, like, I just, I tend to believe, I don't think it's an accident that they can
01:33consistently get the results they want for whatever players they want on a consistent
01:37basis.
01:38See Titus Howard last weekend after going through three days of watching DeJuan Jones try to play
01:42right tackle.
01:42Or like Casey Concepcion after one of the biggest hits you've ever seen on a football
01:46field, I don't know, in the last 10 years at least.
01:49Yeah, I mean, they get the results they want, and if they have a doctor that won't give them
01:52the results they want, they go get a different independent doctor.
01:54Like, it's clear as the day is long.
01:57I hate that side of it, but there's a truth to that.
01:59So, that's kind of what makes it so interesting, though.
02:03Like, if they really want it, and this is the part I hate, because I don't know how serious
02:07DeJuan's concussion is, and I don't, we just don't know.
02:10He could have been throwing up all week.
02:11He might not know.
02:12He might not know.
02:14He said he had a, because think about this, right?
02:16Just order of operate, you know, if we really zoom out here, and please excuse my dear Aunt
02:20Sally this.
02:21So, Sunday he suffers the concussion, presumably on the first drive of the game, and he goes
02:27out, and he gets checked out for four plays, and he comes back in, and he completes the
02:31game.
02:31Okay, that's good.
02:32He does all his post-game media stuff.
02:34No symptoms, you'd assume.
02:35Right.
02:35Like, they go to the facility on Monday, does a full day of film, fine.
02:44Monday night, though, at home, starts getting a headache.
02:47Okay, there's your concussion symptoms.
02:48Sometimes concussion symptoms, yeah, it takes 24 to 48 hours to appear.
02:51I've heard that before as well.
02:53It just complicates the entire thing, because it's like, from the Browns' perspective, they're
02:58probably wondering slash thinking, well, if he would have went in the protocol Sunday
03:02or Monday, he could have got on the practice field maybe yesterday, and then been cleared
03:07today, and you're fine to play.
03:08Like, it changes the whole landscape of the five-step thing.
03:12Yeah, I mean, again, I don't know, because it's one of those things where, again, we don't
03:17know how Deshaun is feeling, right?
03:18And so, if Deshaun was really, if he's feeling fine, I'd have a hard time believing that he'd
03:22have a really hard time clearing the concussion protocol.
03:25That tells me there's still something there, but I also do believe that the Browns want
03:30to see if Shador Sanders can be a better option at quarterback while doing it this way.
03:34It just sets up perfect for him.
03:36It's just an easy, excuse-free reason.
03:40It's a guilt-free reason attached to it as well.
03:43You get a one-week look to see if a quarterback can be better than the 28th quarterback in
03:47the NFL right now, which is Deshaun Watson.
03:49And so, you get this one week.
03:51It's not against the greatest team in the world.
03:53Maybe that actually helps out Shador in a little bit.
03:55I agree.
03:55But you get one week, and then you kind of go from there.
03:58And in the meanwhile, Deshaun just has to sit back, and I guess he can be questionable.
04:02Maybe he can appear, maybe he won't.
04:04But for this week, Munkin's going with Shador to start.
04:06The game just matters so much for the season, though.
04:09The part that I'm hung up on is, will he give Shador the whole entire game?
04:14I guess it doesn't matter.
04:15If Shador looks bad in the first half, it doesn't matter if he played the second half
04:18or not.
04:18But what's the urgency going to be with Munkin to say, this isn't working?
04:23All right, Deshaun, 80%, 85% of you, you have to go out there, put the cape on, and save
04:28it.
04:28Yeah, and we just don't know the answer to that question.
04:31I honestly do wonder, slash really hope, that with this decision, can you start faster?
04:39In this game coming up on Sunday, could you just dispel any chance of what you're suggesting
04:45happening?
04:46Can you go up 14-0?
04:48Because, Jonathan, in back-to-back weeks, this is a Browns team that's found themselves
04:52down double digits before they even score their first points in the game.
04:55So I do kind of wonder, with this decision and with you making it today and kind of letting
05:00Shador feel comfortable with the game plan throughout the week, can you please do something
05:05early in this game to show a big swing offensively?
05:09It is the type of game to me where early on, if you could take a shot, I'd maybe do
05:15it and
05:15see if you could get on the board 7-0.
05:17I mean, it reminds me in many ways of what happened in that Steelers Thursday night game.
05:20They opened up and Deshaun took shots.
05:22It didn't connect in the first drive, but that first drive, he was throwing deep and
05:25he was trying to stretch the field vertically and it felt like a point of emphasis.
05:29And so it's funny how much, you know, I do low-key, and I know you love Shador and you
05:34followed Shador for a long time the way that I have.
05:36I do find it funny how we've come from where Shador was in the pre-draft experience to where
05:42he is now with how people treat what he can do vertically with the football.
05:46It's one of the more mind-blowing aspects of his NFL game and where he's at now.
05:50Because remember, I'll take you back, coming into the combine, the big, like, whoa, what's
05:57going on with Shador was whether or not he could throw the ball down the field.
06:00Right.
06:00At Colorado, the deepest pass he ever had completed was 48 yards.
06:03I will never forget sitting here in the studio and watching with Nick as we're watching his
06:08pro day at Colorado and he's launching the ball 55, 60, 65 yards on a day where everyone
06:15went into that being like, I don't think he can throw the ball deep.
06:17That's the big worry you have with him.
06:19Can he throw the ball deep?
06:20And he was throwing it deep.
06:21And I just, I just, I know you have to find humor in that, that the, the component that
06:25people rely on now when it comes to Shador Sanders game is not as accuracy, which he was awesome
06:29in in college.
06:30It's the deep ball, which was the number one question mark people had entering.
06:33I think it's just because you saw the deep ball come alive in such a serious way.
06:38That was one of his real strengths in the seven game sample size last year.
06:42I think to the game against the Raiders, the first start where he throws that long pass to
06:46Isaiah Bond. And after the game, Miles Garrett goes, Oh, there's only a couple of guys in
06:50the whole league that could make that kind of throw.
06:53Well, it just, it just kind of speaks to how he's turned a weakness of his into a strength.
06:56And it's just funny how it's as if people forget the entire pre-draft combine process as to what
07:01we were actually talking about when it came to Shador.
07:03And now at the NFL level, how he's changed it.
07:05So it's like, dude, I just lean into it.
07:06I really would.
07:07And maybe that'd be a mistake.
07:09And you, you let them launch one and he throws an interception and Martin Emerson gets the
07:14best of them in his revenge game.
07:15And, Oh, that would just feel like dumbest decision ever.
07:18I would just do it though.
07:19Try to start fast in this game.
07:21That's what you had to do, regardless of who the quarterback was.
07:24So now that you're going with the younger quarterback, try to give them a little momentum and a little
07:28optimism.
07:29Well, and we're looking for signs.
07:30If you're Shador, what are you trying to show everyone?
07:31Signs that this is different than Deshaun Watson.
07:33Sure.
07:34That's what you need to do.
07:35And playing well in the first quarter, something that Deshaun has just not done at all this
07:39season, playing strong football in the first quarter, not going behind, getting up a 14
07:44nothing lead instead of having to scratch and claw on these games that would showcase
07:48something.
07:48Again, I just find it.
07:49I find it interesting.
07:50The, like the setup for all of this, I don't buy too much into the trade deadline being on
07:55Tuesday, Nick.
07:56I don't think that's part of it.
07:57I think that's just a, I think that's just coincidence more than anything.
08:00There's no conspiracy here, guys.
08:02It's not like, like, like Deshaun got the symptoms late in the week.
08:07There wasn't enough time for him to defy the protocol.
08:09Like we've seen three other Browns players do this year, and they're going to get a look
08:14at Shador Sanders.
08:15And like you said, I agree.
08:16That's a well-timed look.
08:17That's all.
08:18It just welts it's well-timed.
08:19But I don't really think that there's like any grand conspiracy at, at play here because
08:24dude, let's be honest.
08:26If he balls out, okay, good.
08:28You hired the agent.
08:29We're not trading you.
08:30You know, if he balls out and if the inverse happens and he has a complete meltdown, well,
08:35then, you know, nobody's going to trade for him.
08:37So I, I put no stock in Shador's start coming ahead of the November 10th trade deadline.
08:42That just doesn't.
