17 April - National morning forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Morning. The winds have been picking up overnight and many of us will see some rain today.
00:05But there are strong signs of something a bit drier arriving through the weekend.
00:10More on that in a moment. First of all, today dominated by low pressure and weather fronts edging in from
00:15the Atlantic.
00:16Ice bars squidging together as well, picking those winds up, particularly across western Scotland.
00:21And there's that weather front bringing a band of rain across northern Ireland and western Scotland,
00:25spreading into Wales and western parts of England.
00:28Ahead of it, most places across eastern England will be dry for much of the morning.
00:32And most of east England and the southeast will stay that way into the afternoon.
00:36The rain kind of breaking up a little bit.
00:38So it's a little bit more sporadic, but some heavier bursts possible over the Midlands, southwest England into the afternoon.
00:44Much of Wales turning a lot cheerier, a lot brighter for this afternoon as well.
00:48There'll be some sunny spells here and there across Scotland and northern Ireland,
00:51but a lot of showers zipping in on that brisk wind.
00:54There's the low pressure. You can see the wind swirling around it.
00:57But gustiest across that northwestern corner, blowing those showers through, which are likely to be heavy at times.
01:04But parts of southern Scotland also turning a little bit drier as the afternoon and evening wears on.
01:10Temperature-wise as well, still quite warm across the southeast ahead of this front.
01:13It's a cold front, remember, so it's introducing cooler air behind it.
01:17But still, in the sunny spells, temperatures getting into the mid-teens, obviously feeling fresher with the winds.
01:21But in the southeast, where we see some sunshine, 17, 18, possibly even 19 Celsius this afternoon.
01:28Now, we will see this cloud and showery rain working into East Anglia and the southeast fairly erratically through this
01:35evening.
01:36So be prepared for a heavy downpour here during the evening if you are heading out.
01:40Certainly, the showers will keep going in western Scotland, northern Ireland, but elsewhere, many places become dry through the night.
01:46And the winds, certainly across the south, will be easing a little.
01:49Still a fairly mild night with temperatures to start the weekend at 7 or 8 Celsius.
01:53Perhaps a little cooler in rural spots.
01:55So, on to the weekend.
01:57It could start a bit grey and damp, of course, Kent in particular.
02:00It may take a while for that rain to clear away.
02:03And then it's sunny spells and showers, with most of the showers focused close to the low pressure that's now
02:08edged further north.
02:09But packing the showers in over the highlands, lots of heavy showers coming in here.
02:14Showers for Northern Ireland and zipping through central and southern Scotland are sprinkling across England and Wales.
02:19But many areas here, I suspect, will be largely dry, certainly across the far south of England.
02:24And temperatures, perhaps a degree or so lower than today's values, but still in the sunny spells across the southeast,
02:31feeling pleasant enough.
02:32And for most, those winds, as I say, continuing to ease a little bit.
02:35So, not as strong tomorrow as they will be today.
02:38And that is because of this chunky area of high pressure just wobbling its way in, settling the weather down.
02:44Still low pressure on weather fronts and therefore showers across northern Scotland on Sunday.
02:48But otherwise, this high should bring many of us a dry and a bright day on Sunday.
02:53For more details on that, you'll want to watch Claire and Aziz's weekend weather forecast.
