23 January - National morning forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Morning, another day with heavy rain and strong winds to talk about.
00:04Another day we have Met Office warnings in place across the southwest of the UK.
00:09It's turned wet again through the night and the winds picking up further through the day
00:13around the coast of southwest England, south Wales, gusts of 40, 50, maybe 60 miles an hour.
00:18The strong winds continue to blow the clouds and the rain into eastern Scotland
00:22where there'll be further snow over the hills.
00:24Rain will track northwards again into northern England and northern Ireland.
00:27Between these two rainy zones there should be something a little drier and brighter
00:32across parts of Mid Wales and southeast England this afternoon.
00:35And with a bit of shelter from the southeasterly winds,
00:38western Scotland may do okay for dry and bright weather.
00:41But most areas expect cloud, expect outbreaks of rain
00:44and temperatures struggling up to reach the average
00:48and certainly feeling colder than that with the wind and the outbreaks of rain
00:52which will continue with the ground saturated.
00:54That is likely to cause further problems.
00:57There'll be a lot of spray, a lot of surface water on the roads
01:00if you're heading away through the course of Friday nights.
01:03In the southwest, swirl here, deep area of low pressure
01:07continuing to bring those gusty winds and the heavy rain throughout the night
01:11and the wet weather continues to feed into eastern Scotland.
01:13Elsewhere it should at least turn a little bit drier
01:16and with enough wind and enough cloud
01:19we will see those temperatures mostly holding up above freezing.
01:23Into the weekend, not a great deal of change.
01:25We've still got this brisk southeasterly wind feeding the cloud
01:29and the wet weather into eastern Scotland.
01:30Further snow on the hills, further heavy outbreaks of rain
01:33in parts of Wales and southwest England
01:35swirling around that deep area of low pressure
01:37which will continue to bring gusty winds.
01:39Between those two zones of wet weather,
01:42well, there'll be a few showers
01:43but there should at least be some drier and brighter weather
01:45to be had on Saturday.
01:46Again, temperatures struggling to get to the high single digits at best
01:52and feeling a lot colder with that wind and rain in eastern Scotland.
01:55Might reach double digits in the southwest
01:57but again, here with a gusty wind and frequent heavy showers piling in
02:01it really won't feel all that pleasant at all.
02:04Sunday, well, more wet weather to come
02:06but it should calm down a little bit for some parts of the UK.
02:09For more details on that, you'll want to watch Aidan's full weekend video
