15 April - National evening forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello, the weather continues to chop and change. It is that time of year. We'll see some fine
00:05weather on Thursday, perhaps not as many showers around, and the winds a touch lighter. Some
00:10heavy downpours through Wednesday, clearing away from eastern parts of England during
00:14the evening, and then more bands of showers coming in through the evening into parts of
00:18the west. We'll see those showers easing off across Wales and southern parts of England
00:24through the night, so turning generally dry here. But further north, we'll keep the likelihood
00:28of some showers just zipping through on that brisk wind. The wind's easing a touch overnight,
00:32but still fairly lively, quite a brisk, stiff wind. That helps to keep the temperatures
00:37up. It mixes the air together, so it won't be a chilly night. Temperatures holding up
00:41in high single figures, double digits for some. On to the details for Thursday, and it will
00:46be a showery day, certainly across Scotland. Some early showers over northern England. It's
00:51quite a bit of cloud, I suspect, across southern counties of England, and here there will be
00:55a few more showers developing as we go through the day, particularly from Somerset, across
00:59Hampshire, up towards the London area, and into the afternoon, some likely across East
01:04Anglia also. So a few showers here. Plenty of showers in western Scotland. Should turn
01:08a bit drier in southern Scotland. The showers also easing off in northern Ireland, and a good
01:12part of the day for northern England, the Midlands, I think will be dry and bright with some sunshine
01:18coming through. But steadily clouding over further west as the next weather system comes in, and that could bring
01:23some outbreaks of rain, particularly to West Wales, by the end of the afternoon. As I mentioned,
01:28still quite breezy, but just not as windy as Wednesday. Not quite as warm across the east, but with some
01:34sunshine, probably still feeling quite pleasant. Across East Yorkshire, 16, 17 degrees likely here, and
01:41temperatures generally a touch above the average for the time of year. Because the winds are lighter, it may feel
01:46fairly pleasant when the sun is out. But the sun will disappear in the west quite rapidly as we see
01:51more cloud
01:51coming in, bringing outbreaks of rain to Northern Ireland. And during Thursday evening, spreading into
01:55western parts of England and across much of Scotland. You can see this line of cloud. That is a
02:01weather front which will sweep across the country, not dissimilar to how we saw on Wednesday as we go
02:07through Friday. But again, it's going to be a mild start with temperatures in the high single figures,
02:12double digits for some. But there's that weather front bringing a wet start in the west. It'll swing its way
02:18from west to east, kind of easing off as it does so. Much of East Anglia in the southeast, I
02:22suspect,
02:23will stay dry and bright for most of the day. And behind that weather front, we'll see some sunshine
02:28returning to Wales, northwest England on Friday afternoon. But plenty of showers returning as well
02:34to Northern Ireland and northwest Scotland. And some of them heavy, perhaps even thundery with gusty,
02:39gusty wind. You can see this swirl. That's an area of low pressure. The wind's really picking up
02:42in that northwestern corner as that low approaches later on Friday. Temperature wise, well, again,
02:48pretty mild in the sunny spells across East Anglia in the southeast, 17, 18 and generally
02:5314, 15 degrees with some sunshine. But those winds will again be picking up through the course of the
02:59day. All thanks to this area of low pressure. Looks quite potent and particularly those icebergs
03:04squeezing together on its southern flank would bring some gusty conditions to north coast of Northern
03:09Ireland and then into western Scotland on Friday night. Once that weather front's cleared away,
03:14look at this. An area of high pressure just ambling in to calm the weather down. High pressure means
03:20the air is sinking. So although there'll still be a few showers certainly across northern Scotland this
03:24weekend, this high toppling in should bring a lot of dry weather and calmer weather with lighter winds
03:29and probably some decent smells of sunshine as well. Could stick around into next week. Also for more on
03:35that's you'll want to watch Annie's 10 day trend video available on our YouTube channel.
