00:00Hello there, welcome to your Friday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04A bit of a chilly start, we are seeing some heavy showers around.
00:09We do have a northerly flow, delivering more showers as we head through the day.
00:13But more scattered across Scotland and Northern Ireland, some brighter breaks.
00:17We could see some clusters moving down across England and Wales as this ridge extends from the west,
00:24keeping things quieter for the weekend.
00:26But we enter the weekend on a cold note.
00:30Temperatures, particularly across rural spots, dipping down to mid-single figures,
00:35if not a little lower across valleys of Wales, the glens of Scotland.
00:38And always be a feed of showers coming in across the north as well as the west of Scotland.
00:43And some showers this morning, that wind's fresh, chilly along the coastline, exposed to that breeze.
00:49Some brighter breaks possible, but showers moving in with that wind flow.
00:53Now for Northern Ireland, you're seeing some showers this morning, particularly across northern and western areas.
00:59And this feature here, running down from borders towards northern and northeastern areas of England.
01:06Some heavier downpours can't be ruled out.
01:08At the same time overnight, we've seen those showers continue with thunder across Irish seacoast.
01:14And they continue to feed in across the coastline and just penetrate Wales as well as the west country.
01:20Some just tinkering there across the far south of England as well.
01:26So through this morning, we do have these two features here, bringing more on the way of showery bursts.
01:32And this one, through the early hours, bringing some wet weather to southern Scotland.
01:35We could see some showers just moving in across Wales through the first part of the day.
01:40Inland, though, a dry start with some sunshine.
01:43However, through the morning, the cloud will build.
01:46So not only do we have this showery rain moving in across central northern areas of England down towards East
01:53Anglia,
01:54we also have some showers across the west country as well as Wales.
01:58And here there is a risk of thunder.
02:00Some heavy downpours can't be ruled out.
02:02A similar situation for the far south east of England.
02:05You may find or catch a shower as you head through the afternoon today.
02:10Drier skies across much of Scotland after some showers first thing.
02:14And in shelter through the afternoon, there will be some brighter breaks.
02:18Still that brisk breeze coming in from a northerly direction,
02:21but the wind will change direction as we head through the next 24 hours.
02:26And for Northern Ireland, that stream of showers continues to feed southwards.
02:29And again, we could see some broken cloud through this evening and overnight and drier skies.
02:35So let's have a look at the temperatures through today.
02:39Struggling really, to be honest, 15 to 17 in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:43But Northern England as well, particularly if you catch a heavy downpour, only 17 or 18 Celsius.
02:48We hang on to 21, 22 across central southern parts of England and Wales.
02:53But for Wales, particularly on this western side where you're exposed to the breeze
02:57and also those showers, 16 or 17 degrees Celsius.
03:01And in fact, that will lead into a chilly evening and a chilly night.
03:06Before that though, through this evening, again, watch out for those showers,
03:09especially across England and Wales.
03:11They will tend to lose their potency, their strength as they push southwards.
03:16The winds then slowly moving in across the northwest.
03:20We lose some of the strength of that breeze inland, some clearer skies and it will turn chilly.
03:26So for the glens of Scotland, three or four degrees Celsius.
03:29For the valleys of Wales, we could see five degrees, certainly around eight,
03:34across the central part of England, eastern parts of Scotland as well.
03:39Towards the west there, probably 10, 11, 12 degrees Celsius.
03:43So a cool night, if not a chilly one, across many parts of the UK.
03:48Into Saturday morning, a fine start across many areas with some sunshine.
03:52Yet again, with this flow, we'll see some showers clipping the east coast,
03:56some down towards the far southeast and also across the west country.
04:00Through the day though, drier skies, a lighter wind.
04:03Just towards the far northwest of Scotland, we'll see a few showers filtering in here.
04:08Through the day, bright skies, we could see cloud building through the middle part of the day
04:13into the afternoon before breaks later.
04:15After a chilly start, temperatures perhaps up a notch, 18 degrees across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
04:21Further south, yes, 19 to 21, 22 degrees Celsius.
04:25So not feeling too bad in the sunshine and in shelter.
04:28And you'll see a better end to the day along this eastern side as that wind continues to back.
04:34So that's Saturday afternoon.
04:36Through Saturday evening and overnight, another chilly one, a cold start to Saturday into Sunday.
04:42And as you can see, a ridge of high pressure just drifts towards the east.
04:46So high pressure affecting the weather through Sunday.
04:49It's a fine day with some sunshine, a few showers possible.
04:52Into Monday, eventually, we see the wind change direction yet again.
04:57And there's a chance of some showery rain moving in from the south this time.
05:01Before that, though, a mix of brighter spells across Scotland.
05:05For Northern Ireland, yes, a similar situation.
05:07A few showers across the far northwest.
05:10Brighter weather, if not sunshine, just coming through on Sunday with a light breeze across England and Wales.
05:15And temperatures up again.
05:16So we could see 24 for the home counties.
05:19Probably 19 or 20 in Northern England as well as Wales, although Southern Wales coming in around 23.
05:24And for Scotland and Northern Ireland, it'll be a bit more cloud around 18 or 19 at the very best.
05:29And probably the mid-teens towards the northwest.
05:32Wherever you are, have a lovely day.
05:33And I'll see you again soon.
