09 March - National evening forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello, very good evening to you. It has been quite grey, quite drab for many of us through
00:04today and there's more grey and at times a little bit wet weather to come as we go through
00:09the next couple of days. There are various fronts across us at the moment. We do have
00:13an occluded front pushing through as we go through into tomorrow as well. But then a
00:17more active frontal system arrives later on Tuesday. That's going to bring some heavier,
00:21more persistent rain as we go into Wednesday. More on that in just a second. For the time
00:26being, yes, pretty cloudy for many places. Outbreaks of rain. Some could be a little bit
00:31heavier as we go through this evening, particularly towards the east. And then some slightly more
00:35persistent rain pushing into parts of Northern Ireland, Western Scotland and later the far west
00:39of Wales and England as we go through the early hours of Tuesday morning. Ahead of this it will
00:44be a little bit damp at times. There could be some breaks in the cloud, maybe over some parts of
00:49the
00:49Midlands, Eastern England and also Eastern Scotland. But most places are going to stay cloudy. With that
00:55cloud then, as you would expect, temperature's not dropping a huge amount. But where we get the
00:59clear skies, it will be a little bit chillier. And you couldn't rule out a touch of frost in a
01:04few
01:04places as well. Most places, though, starting off Tuesday on a pretty grey note. A lot of cloud
01:11around and fairly damp towards the west, worth bearing in mind as well. There'll be some strong
01:16winds here, just a bit blustery for sure. Then as we go through the day, yes, that rain pushes a
01:21little
01:21bit further south and eastwards across parts of Scotland, more so across Wales and parts of
01:26southwest England as well. Ahead of this towards the east, staying mostly dry, often quite cloudy
01:32though, just some parts of East Anglia, maybe Kent, seeing some sunshine as we go into the afternoon.
01:37Elsewhere, it is going to be pretty grey. And then that more active front that I mentioned
01:41at the start, that arrives and sweeps its way into initially Northern Ireland as we go through
01:46tomorrow afternoon. So here it is going to turn increasingly wet and the winds will strengthen a
01:50bit further as well. Temperatures, well, they're going to be around or actually a little bit above
01:54average for the time of year. Could be looking at highs towards the mid-teens, towards the southeast,
01:59so not quite as high as today. But always worth bearing in mind that, well, when it's cloudy at this
02:05time of year, well, the sunshine really makes all the difference. And so if you're stuck under the
02:09cloud, it's not going to feel that mild at all, especially in the west where we have that rain
02:13and those stronger winds coming through. That active frontal system then moves its way from west to east
02:19across the country. As we go through Tuesday night, it could be quite heavy at times. Some places,
02:25particularly in the west, could see maybe 35, 45 millimetres building up as it pushes through.
02:31So yeah, pretty wet picture for a short period of time. Fortunately, it does move through fairly
02:36quickly. But behind it, whilst most places will see some drier weather developing through the early
02:41hours of Wednesday morning towards the northwest, it's going to be pretty blustery, pretty windy,
02:45and there'll be some fairly hefty showers coming in as well. Even a bit of wintriness popping up,
02:50some sleet and snow over the highest ground as well. We do have slightly colder air coming in behind
02:56this front, so temperatures, well, they may drop a little bit lower than this coming night. But
03:01because of the strong winds, the blustery weather, I'm not expecting it to be particularly cold. So maybe
03:06some sheltered spots could see a touch of frost, especially where we get any clear skies. But yes,
03:12those winds generally keeping temperatures from dropping especially low. So we wake up on Wednesday
03:18morning, quite wet across the southeast, but that rain should quite quickly clear away. And then we
03:22have plenty of blustery showers across much of Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland, and a few
03:26showers across some areas of England and Wales. But generally for much of England and Wales, once that
03:31initial rain in the southeast clears away, it's looking drier and a greater chance of seeing some
03:36breaks in the cloud compared to the start of the week. It will be quite cloudy at times, but I
03:42think
03:42there will be some brighter or sunny spells for most of us as well. We do have that colder air
03:47coming through. So despite the fact that it's looking a little bit sunnier, temperatures, if
03:51anything, are going to be down a couple of degrees compared to Tuesday. Then as we head towards the end
03:58of the week, while it stays quite changeable, quite unsettled, there's more wet weather coming through
04:02later Wednesday and into Thursday. This could be quite heavy in places. And we have fresher, colder air
04:08coming in as well. So even more likely to see some winteriness, some sleet, some snow over higher
04:13ground, more modest, higher ground parts of Scotland, maybe Northern Ireland, some parts of
04:17Northern England and North Wales could see some sleet and snow as we go through Wednesday and into
04:21Thursday. But all of us will see some wet weather at times. For more information about that, well,
04:27why don't you check out our week ahead forecast, which Annie brought to you earlier on. That's
04:31available on our YouTube channel, but I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
