22 January - National evening forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to your latest update from the Met Office. We still have a number of
00:05weather warnings in place. Heavy rain continues to fall across parts of eastern Scotland,
00:09increasingly falling as snow over some of the higher routes here, staying pretty wet
00:13through the evening across Northern Ireland too. The rain should at least start to ease
00:17here later in the night, already easing across parts of the south, but not for long because
00:22another band of rain then comes into the far southwest through the early hours, accompanied
00:26by gusty and blustery winds. Something a bit dry developing over the Midlands and parts
00:32of North Wales, where it might turn a bit chilly, maybe down to two or three in rural spots,
00:36but mostly the wind and the cloud keeping temperatures up at four or five degrees Celsius.
00:41Wind and rain warning then in place for South Wales and southwest England tomorrow. The
00:45rain warning continues in eastern Scotland, although as I said, increasingly over the
00:49higher ground, that rain is falling as snow. The strong winds making for some large waves
00:54in the east coast of Scotland also. With the winds coming in from the southeast, the western
00:58side of Scotland getting some shelter. May see some sunny spells here. A bit drier tomorrow
01:02morning in Northern Ireland, but the rain will return here through the afternoon and spreading
01:07into parts of northern England also. Again, a bit drier in this zone between weather systems,
01:12but staying very showery with those gusty winds in the southwest, making it feel cooler than
01:17these numbers would suggest, particularly on those North Sea coasts. Six, seven degrees out
01:22on that wind. It feels a lot chillier than that. We might squeak up to double digits somewhere in
01:28southern England if it does brighten up at all. But there'll be further showers coming into the
01:32southwest. You can see this little circulation. Nasty area of low pressure continuing to bring wet and
01:36windy conditions in the southwest. The ground is very soggy here, so this extra rainfall likely to
01:42cause some further flooding problems. Certainly a lot of spray and surface water on the roads.
01:46And it stays pretty wet in eastern Scotland as well, even as we head into the weekend. And yeah,
01:53in fact, we see a great deal of change. You can see the circulation, low pressure sitting here,
01:57continuing to bring frequent showers to Wales and southwest England and some gusty winds into
02:02Saturday. We'll continue to feed in the clouds and the outbreaks of rain with hill snow into eastern
02:08Scotland. Something a bit drier elsewhere. And again, western Scotland should get a bit of shelter.
02:14So we may see some sunny spells coming through here. But otherwise, sunshine and lengthy dry spells
02:20in short supply. Temperatures again about average, maybe a little bit below and certainly feeling
02:25colder in those eastern areas and turning a bit colder still as we head through the second half of
02:30the weekend. Now, if you want a full weekend forecast, Aidan's weekend video is available on our
02:36YouTube channel. And for the details of those warnings, you want to check out our app and our website.
