*Wheeler Dealers: Dream Car* is a spin-off of the Wheeler Dealers franchise that focuses on helping everyday people trade their way up to their ideal vehicle. Instead of restoring cars for profit alone, each episode follows a personal journey, where the team starts with the participant’s current car and gradually upgrades through a series of smart buys, repairs, and sales.
The show is led by Mike Brewer, an expert in sourcing and negotiating deals, and Marc Priestley (also known as “Elvis”), a former McLaren Racing mechanic who handles the technical work and improvements.
Season 1 establishes the format with a mix of nostalgic and ambitious goals, from classic cars like a Land Rover Series IIa and Ford Escort Mk2 to high-value dreams such as a DeLorean DMC-12 and a Nissan Skyline.
Season 2 builds on this with bigger stakes and more emotional stories, including practical goals like an Audi Q7 for a growing family, lifestyle vehicles such as a Volkswagen Campervan, and dream performance cars like a Caterham Seven.
Overall, the series blends car expertise with personal storytelling, showing how smart decisions and mechanical skill can turn an ordinary car into someone’s dream vehicle.

00:03We've all got a dream car for most it remains out of reach I'm hoping you can help so I'm
00:14taking on the ultimate trading challenge to make motoring dreams come true the next time you see
00:19me I promise I'm gonna be in your dream car here's how I meet car lovers who hand over their
00:25daily
00:25drive and this is my starting point that's brilliant and whatever cash they can spare
00:31but she's given us this car on a grand through a series of car trades got a deal well done
00:36yeah
00:37and money making deals that's the car let's go in a bid I'll trade up until I've got enough money
00:42to buy the car they've always wanted you look happy oh yes I'll draw on years of experience
00:49and share my tricks of the trade this car has already increased in value just by moving it
00:54geographically helping me in the workshop is my mate Elvis an ex-formula one mechanic such a good
01:02feeling working together the pressure's on for us to deliver the dream car this might even change my
01:10life this time we really earn our stripes as we try to trade up to an iconic off-roader for
01:17ex-soldier
01:17Tony since I was a young kid all I wanted to do is want to land all of myself I'm
01:22forced to take a
01:23massive risk on a super cheap car it's such a gamble it could be a 200 pound paperweight for me
01:28and we
01:29face the rotten reality of converting a classic it's become an absolute nightmare I'm determined to rescue
01:45this I'm heading north to meet Tony Dietrich Cowell the next serviceman who's always dreamt of owning a
01:52Land Rover Tony used to be a soldier and jumped out of planes for a living so he certainly earned
01:58my
01:58respect I can't wait to help him out when I was seven or eight my dad had a Land Rover
02:08a short wheelbase
02:09one but I think from that point onwards all I wanted to do is own a Land Rover myself my
02:16dream car is
02:17without a doubt a series to a Land Rover it's the classic iconic Land Rover is recognized worldwide
02:26two million of these off-road icons were built from 1948 onwards the square body style uses light
02:33alloys to get around post-war metal rationing exported globally Land Rover recently claimed over
02:4070 percent of those built were still in use so that's the dream it's my job to make it a
02:52reality
02:53problem is I don't know what my starting point is going to be I don't know what car he's got
02:57to give
02:57me to start this long journey ahead Tony hello Mike you well yeah not bad at all I noticed this
03:17picture is this you in the army I joined the army in 95 as a paratrooper and so we jumped
03:21out of
03:21airplanes for a living I really enjoyed it not good with heights but I love jumping out of planes
03:27yeah yeah how many jumps you do um I think I've got about 40 odd and then you start to
03:32lose count
03:32right so you're good with heights now uh still not good right really no so you won't climb up a
03:37ladder
03:37but you can jump out of an airplane yeah it's a different kind of height it's fantastic so uh is
03:42this a member of the family no this was a photograph of one of the vehicles I used to compete
03:47in the
03:47army championships uh used to do navigation off-road driving stuff like that so is that where your love
03:52of land rovers comes from it does yeah I mean obviously land rovers have been a big part of
03:56my career part of my life so uh if I've got to go and find you a land rover which
04:01one is it you're
04:01after so my dream land rover would be a short wheelbase 1960s series 2a okay so you've chosen one
04:10of the most popular land rovers out there at the moment that's really difficult to find Tony's a
04:15lovely chap he really is and I'm motivated to do well for him he's been around land rovers all his
04:19life
04:19but never really owned one and it's my job to get him his dream car but I won't know if
04:24I can do it
04:25until I find out what he's got stored in his mate's garage so this is where you keep the car
04:31is it is
04:31yeah it's my friend Ian's house and is that your friend's car it is yeah it's a bit too new
04:35for me
04:40ah and this is my starting point that's brilliant 2001 mini kuba 1.6 do you know what I'm relieved
04:47I
04:47absolutely love it everyone loves a mini especially in this iconic color red with a white top I can
04:55tell you some good news straight away full leather interior 16 inch wheels disc brakes all around this
05:00one's got the panoramic roof brilliant I can see that it needs attention in certain areas so to get
05:08this to your dream car is a tall order I'm gonna need some kind of fighting fun to throw into
05:14this
05:14car so what can you chuck in tell me you've got some money to throw in I have I've got
05:18some money
05:19um I don't know what you'll think but I've managed to free up about 250 quid 250 pound so I've
05:26got to
05:27turn 250 quid and an 18 year old mini into a Land Rover series 2 from the 1960s yeah that's
05:34a mission
05:35yeah I mean I'll take the 250 quid I'll take your mini and hopefully the next time you see me
05:41it'll
05:41be behind the wheel of your dream car awesome a 1960s Land Rover is worth at least six times as
05:49much
05:49as this mini so I'm gonna have to buy and sell a few motors to make enough cash to make
05:54Tony's dream
05:55off-roader the reality my starting points this mini and to sell it we've got to make it distinctive
06:01out there on the internet there is a sea of minis that look exactly the same as this one and
06:07the
06:07problem I'm gonna have is trying to separate this from the crowd and there are a few little tricks that
06:12I know that I can make this car stand out one of the ideas just to put stripes on it
06:18this car is lacking
06:19in the stripes do some decals that make this plain Jane pop in the adverts
06:32Elvis hello mate look what I've got for you and play with wow I used to have one of these
06:37really
06:37yeah who doesn't love a mini coupe oh everyone does that's awesome what's it drive like drive's
06:42absolutely brilliant I've just driven it all the way down from Yorkshire see the guy Tony he's lovely
06:47okay he's an ex-para what he'd really like us to do is to turn this vehicle into a 1960s
06:54series 2a
06:54Land Rover well I mean great choice first of all right very good choice but it's not a straight swap
07:01is it yeah I'm gonna have to flip this car and then some and then some and I'm gonna have
07:04to double
07:05my money along the way to get in the car of these dreams and for doing that Tony has very
07:09kindly given
07:10to see his Mini Cooper plus a very healthy 250 pounds well 250 quid wow okay Mike's not a magician
07:20turning the Mini and a few hundred quid cash into a Land Rover is well I mean I've got no
07:25idea how
07:26we're gonna do that we need to change this car visually and one of the ways we can do that
07:30is
07:30put some stripes on it so we put some decals on the side you know what I mean 100%
07:34love that idea
07:35the other thing that's just jumped out at me is the idea of remember the old classic spotlight
07:40love rally style absolutely love it um I think that's quick it's easy it's cheap to do well we
07:46better get straight on with it I need to turn this round as quickly as possible all right let's get
07:49cracking I'm getting the car washed as vinyl stripes need a really clean paint surface to stick properly
07:57and I guess it gives me time to order some parts
08:08the visual changes will make it stand out and help get it sold quickly because we need to move
08:13on to bigger better trades all right so it's a vinyl like this with an adhesive already applied to the
08:26back and a protective film over the top so it's relatively easy to apply in theory but as you can
08:32see no road car has flat surfaces it's all kind of twisted curved areas which are very very tricky to
08:40get
08:40right some stripes are applied with water but this vinyl goes straight on it looks so easy when I was
08:48watching everyone do it at the formula one team okay let's just check yeah we're all good all good so
08:55far
09:00hello Dave oh we've got a crease in there that's not good
09:11there's a crease in here it's pretty bad I can see it straight away and if I can see it
09:16everyone
09:16else can Dave this is no good
09:30so I think it's important to go a little bit at a time because if you do put too much
09:36on that's when
09:36you get air bubbles which is the last thing we want but because the curve of the bonnet is so
09:43extreme here it becomes a lot harder to stretch the material it's actually really cold right now in
09:49the workshop and that makes this stuff a little bit less stretchy a little bit less malleable if
09:53you like it's a bit easier when it's warmed up I love it it's transformed the look of the front
10:01of the car
10:04the 30 pound side decals are definitely a two-man job but you need to hold them in position and
10:10then
10:10at the same time evenly stretch and lay the vinyl I think it looks great it's really good the white
10:22pops out against the red really well I think it's going to transform it so I'm just popping these
10:31spotlights onto the front of the car which is nice quick and easy job a great buyer just 60 pounds
10:36off
10:36the internet they connect through a separate wiring harness and operate using relays I'm just feeding
10:42the final wires through the inside of the bonnet to connect up the lamp here so when you flash the
10:49full beam lights on the steering on the back of the steering wheel these things will come on as well
11:00great look at that wow now there's a man who's been working hard looks good yeah it looks absolutely
11:06fantastic let's get it sold three million minis have been built since 2001 flooding the second hand car
11:15market I'm hoping these upgrades will make our Cooper stand out in the crowd and find a buyer at 1200
11:21pounds next my optimism proves short-lived I think I need to drop the price I decide to take on
11:33a fast
11:33turnaround trade this is how we can make business by creating a business huh but it turns into a money
11:42pit threatening our mission to get Tony he's dream land rover I don't even think any of this is
11:48repairable I've got an 18 year old mini and 250 pounds to help ex-soldier Tony trade up to one
11:56of
11:56the most popular classic cars my dream car is without a doubt a series 2 air land rover this is
12:03going to
12:03be a really tough one and I'm gonna have to double my money and take some big gambles along the
12:09way
12:09it could take up to five trades to get to the landing so the pressure is on to get this
12:14mini sold
12:14we've already added some eye-catching touches it's really good the white pops out against the red
12:20really well I've advertised it nationally at 1200 pounds but so far we haven't had a single call
12:26in two weeks of marketing time to face reality time is the one thing we just don't have I need
12:33to
12:33crack on well I mean what you're saying then we would drop the price of it well I don't want
12:40it
12:40but I think to get it over the line and do it quicker yeah I think I need to drop
12:45the price
12:47I've advertised a mini for 999 pounds it always looks better than a full 1000 pounds in the advert
12:53and exciting news I've had a call are you Paul I am Paul very nice to meet you I'm Mike
13:00hi Mike nice to
13:00meet you well welcome down this is my uh beautiful little mini the top spec leather interior is a big
13:06selling point on this car Elvis has just detailed the seats ahead of the viewing so I'm deliberately
13:12pointing out how good it looks uh inside you can see it's uh fully finished with the leather interior
13:19as well that's exactly what I'm after nice you looked at a few I've looked at a few yeah uh
13:24this is
13:25the nicest one I've seen that's all I want to hear I like it well I've advertised it for the
13:30bargain
13:30price of just 999 pounds would you take 900 I'd let it go for for 950 well I like it
13:42and I don't
13:43want to miss out on it so yep I'll do 950 top man congratulations get yourself a nice little mini
13:47fantastic lovely thank you I think Paul's delighted with that car but now more importantly got some
13:54cash I'm on the way after spending money on parts for the mini we had 150 pounds in the pot
14:01add that
14:02to the sale price of the mini and I now have 1100 pounds to play with
14:10one way of making money in the car game is to think outside the box in this case a horse
14:16box now bear
14:17with me I've got a plan
14:31so the horse box has been stored down here somewhere just need to find it there's obviously a lot of
14:40junk around here somebody that's fixing up old motorbikes that looks interesting
14:48oh that looks like a horse box and this could be the lady hello are you Debbie I am you
14:53must be
14:53Mike I am is that the horse box I've come to see yeah wonderful can I have a look inside
14:59yeah you can do
15:00yeah it just drops
15:04yes look at that I could be just about
15:09have to buy a horse box and no I haven't lost a plot I'm seeing this as a potential for
15:14a conversion to a coffee bar or a burger van
15:16the kind of thing you see at festivals there's a strong market and big profit potential if it's a solid
15:21vehicle
15:22I can see the floor needs some attention it's a little bit rotten yeah we're going to look at the
15:26floor and maybe lay some new floor in
15:28it needs a lick of paint and a little bit of rust protection and that chassis is going to have
15:33to be
15:34tidied up so um how much you owe me to get for it
15:37we're hoping for a thousand a thousand pound yeah yeah um you're looking to just get rid of it
15:44but I would take 900 just to get rid of it
15:46I think it's worth every penny of 900 pounds I'll have it
15:50fantastic it's a deal it's lovely thank you very much
15:57900 pounds is a fair price for a horse box but to get tony he's dream lamb rover
16:02I need to make thousands of pounds of clear profits and that means a shift in marketplace
16:08well I'm really excited about this horse box to catering truck idea but I think it's going to be a
16:13big sell
16:14into Elvis because the guy's a mechanic he's used to working on formula one cars he's not a painter and
16:21decorator and we've only got a couple of hundred pounds in the pot to pull this off
16:31hello mate how you doing what's that what's that don't tell me you're bringing me a horse
16:38no I know how much you like horsepower but don't worry we're not trading horses
16:42no this is how we can make business by uh creating a business huh
16:50but it's a horse box I know it looks like a horse box on the outside but don't worry
16:54we're going to do something really special with it you're going to love this
16:58if you've been to any festivals or outdoor gatherings recently you'll see lots of people
17:04turning things like this into a place where you can sell stuff whether it's drinks or food
17:10or ice cream whatever it is you can sell them out of a horse box so uh that's what I
17:15thought
17:15we'd do with it but at the moment it looks nothing like one of those come on you've got to
17:20have a
17:20little bit of imagination let me show you what I mean that's all we need to do all we got
17:24to do
17:25is tidy it up you can't just be patched up everything's got to be perfect if we're going
17:29to use this for a business we've got to do a proper job and that's a lot of work I
17:33know it's a lot of work
17:34but trust me it's going to be worth it and when you find out what we paid for it in
17:37the first place
17:38I think you'll be quite happy go on 900 quid 900 quid I mean that is that's good isn't it
17:46Mike's planning the fit out and looking at paint colors whilst I'm tearing into the horse box
17:54first jobs to get rid of all the nasty internal panels a modern catering business needs a spotlessly
18:10clean interior brilliant that was harder than I thought one down loads to go
18:26so having taken the ply off and exposed this skin which is the outer skin of the horse
18:30box it's in far worse state than I thought I don't even think any of this is repairable
18:38this was supposed to be a quick cosmetic facelift it's going to end up being a complete ground-up
18:43restoration we've only got 200 pounds left in the key for this entire refit and yet we still haven't
18:52bought any parts I know we're going to need more cash we've already gone over budget
19:04hello mike it's elvis elvis you're right mate hi mate uh not really you know this horse box
19:10I've got the ply off the insides which is probably supposed to be the bulk of it and when I've
19:15done
19:15that it's uncovered just a nightmare that the skin there's the aluminium skin of the actual horse box
19:21is rotten and I've got no choice but to replace the whole thing I mean I'm sitting here looking
19:26at an absolute bare frame of a horse box
19:33it's obviously a serious situation so I head down to see for myself
19:43oh deary me
19:44look I don't mind the hard work you know that but the costs are spiralling out of control
19:49well look I do appreciate the amount of work you've done so far and I'm determined to rescue this
19:55well I got us into this and now I've got to get us out of it or we're in trouble
19:59we can't afford to
20:00get the horse box finished unless I double the 200 quid that we've got in our fighting fund
20:06I've been on the lookout for an opportunity to turn a quick profit and I may be onto something
20:12I'm in the north east of England I'm on my way to go meet a young lady called Holly
20:16she's got an incredibly cheap little Honda Civic for sale so 1.4 she just wants a couple of hundred
20:23quid for it
20:24the car's got no MOT it's just run out and Holly wants red that's a great negotiating tool for me
20:31if I think the car's strong I'll get it MOT'd and flip it for a profit
20:39hello
20:39oh hello you all right how are you yes I'm good thank you how's very nice to meet you
20:44hello nice to meet you can I uh just have a quick look around this yeah no problem
20:49very good I mean other than it needs a clean yeah it's good size boot and it's got a good
20:54spare as
20:54well how many miles has it done 79 000 all right that's okay it's good should we have a look
20:59inside
21:00yeah of course this car's quite well equipped isn't it it's got the electric mirrors got the
21:05electric windows they'll work they don't unfortunately no okay can I fire it up yeah of course
21:14wow perfect sounds lovely yeah it does sound lovely well I need to test it can I just go up
21:18and down
21:19inside this yard yeah just to make sure the clutch and the brake pedal works okay yeah that's no problem
21:25even if you've only got a small car park to test the car it's vital you make sure all the
21:29major parts
21:30work and there's no nasty knocking noises from the engine gearbox or suspension the good news is it
21:37does start stop and go yes the bad news is I just can't properly test it it's got no MOT
21:43it's not legal
21:44how much did you want for it 200 I know the car is incredibly cheap but it's such a gamble
21:52it could
21:52be a 200 pound paperweight for me yeah oh um could ask hundred hundred pounds yeah you got yourself a
22:02deal you seem quite happy you didn't get your asking price um I am because I only paid 100 quid
22:07for it
22:08in the first place you're on to a winner trading medium-sized hatchbacks they're mainstream not
22:15niche so they're always in demand but to get the best price everything's got to function perfectly
22:20so I need Elvis to sort this window problem
22:34Elvis all right how are you bud what's this next I deliver the answer to our prayers
22:41welcome to our 100 pound Honda Civic and start the hunt for the dream Land Rover that looks like a
22:49a real project it needs a bit of work granted I'm on a mission to get Tony an ex-para
22:55the Land Rover
22:56of his dreams so you've chosen one of the most popular Land Rovers out there at the moment I've
23:01already sold on his mini for nearly a thousand pounds I don't want to miss out on it so yeah
23:06I'll
23:06do nine top man congratulations but I'm gonna need at least six times that if I'm gonna get Tony
23:12he's classic 4x4 I took a gamble and turning a horse box into a catering unit but it needs a
23:20full
23:20restoration and more cash the costs are spiraling out of control so now I'm pinning all my hopes on
23:26making a profit from a hundred pound car a hundred pound all right what what's wrong with it has it
23:33got
23:34an engine in has it got a gearbox of course it has it's on a trailer because it's got no
23:38MOT oh I see
23:39here we go why is it not why has it failed an MOT it hasn't failed it's just expired and
23:43I reckon
23:44the little thing a fly for an MOT if you wouldn't mind having a look at the electric windows they
23:48don't
23:48work all right I mean I love it 100 quid for a car so Mike's brought me something else to
23:52fix
23:52and I've got some a bit happier this time because well it's a car first of all but if I
23:57can get the
23:58Honda turned around quickly it'll be great so we can add some more money to the horse box fund
24:01and that'll be brilliant window problems are often electrical issues so that's where I'm starting
24:09we know that the driver's side window isn't working the passenger side is though so that
24:14rules out the fuse we know the fuse is fuse is fine so now I'm going to start to look
24:18at the
24:18electrical side and switch particularly helpfully the car came with a replacement switch but there's
24:24no guarantee it's working now I've no idea if that is a good switch or a bad switch but I
24:30guess we
24:31might as well give it a go plug that in switch the ignition back on
24:43that is brilliant that's brilliant go on just about you know sometimes it's just your lucky day
24:50and they'll throw this back together and then go and buy a lottery ticket
24:55well Mike did pretty well picking this car up for a hundred quid I think I might just outdone him
25:00I fixed it for nothing search around on the internet and you can get an MOT for as little
25:04as 20 pounds I've still got some basic checks to do but I'm pretty sure it'll pass then Mike can
25:10put
25:10it up for sale I've had the Honda advertised for a cheeky 695 pounds no viewings just yet but I
25:18just
25:18had a call from a guy said he's going to pop down after work hope he makes a bid I
25:23need to sell it I
25:24need some cash for that horse box how about 650 yeah you got yourself a deal do you know what
25:30I
25:30can't be any happier I've just sold that little Honda I paid a hundred pounds for for 650 pounds
25:37there's the keys thanks very much enjoy the car will do right we're in the money again we've got
25:44seven hundred and thirty pounds to put into the horse box while Mike's off spending our windfall
25:52on new side panels and flooring I'm prepping the frame for paint we really want the horse box to
26:04stand out in a crowded field literally so color choice is key so we've decided to go for a two
26:10-tone
26:10look with pastel green and cream on the horse box I think it's going to look great I think it
26:15will really fit in with that country look which is really popular at the festivals and hopefully
26:20it will broaden its appeal to whenever I do paint with a brush like this it's always nice nice little
26:28touch to just give a little flick at the end of each brush stroke because if you don't and you
26:32stop dead you get some horrible little brush marks like that
26:40the original external galvanized panels on the side of the horse box are really expensive to
26:45replace so Mike's been clever and ordered a new material called mesh board it's good value at about
26:4960 pounds a sheet and it's really easy to work with
26:57the boards need to be supported during a cut otherwise they can wobble and pinch the blade
27:01I'm trying to make sure that the measurements are all absolutely perfect and the cuts are all really
27:06clean because it's the finish that's going to sell this horse box whoever buys it needs it to reflect
27:10their business so the attention to detail and the workmanship has to be as high as it can possibly be
27:16shouldn't take me too long to get them all installed and I'm going to use a polyurethane adhesive to stick
27:21them in because that's the kind of stuff they use to stick windscreens into cars first of all it's
27:25really really strong but it also is weatherproof which is exactly what this horse box needs to be
27:32Mike's had another money-saving idea for the interior he's bought a load of old scaffolding boards from
27:38a building site it's a cheap source of wood only 10 pounds a plank it's easy to work with and
27:46matches
27:47our rustic design I'm going to sand this lock back and then create some custom shelving and a bar top
28:08right well we're on the final straight here this really feels like we're nearing the end of this
28:13project after days of work it's great to see the horse spots coming together without that clever Honda
28:19Civic flip this project would have never made it past the finishing post
28:27no way I mean seriously really look at this you like it wow fantastic mate there's been times on
28:38this when I've thought I thought about throwing the towel in but I'm really pleased I'm glad you like
28:42it now we need to turn this into some serious cash yeah well I hope so but that dream car
28:47will cost
28:48at least six grand I need a plan to maximize my chances of getting that so I'm heading for the
28:54hills so how'd you sell a converted horse box well you bring it along to a country fair put it
29:05in
29:05front of the eyes of the people who are really going to appreciate it there'll be loads of people
29:11walking around taking inspiration to start their own business and hopefully by the end of the day
29:17I'll attract the right punter
29:22so you would serve from here and that's the condiments table over there so they would go
29:27and get their condiments good isn't it very good I'm giving my best sales patter but I'm having to
29:34fight British summertime rain threatens and the crowds thin out quickly has my chance of a sale gone
29:43well I do like a day out in the country but I do like to make some money even more
29:47and unfortunately
29:48today hasn't been one of those days
29:52of course the horse box ad is out on the websites too but getting people to experience it in the
29:57flesh
29:57was always my best chance of finding a buyer I'm gutted and the worst thing is bright and early the
30:06next
30:06morning I have to face Elvis with the bad news morning mate hello mate how you doing yeah all right
30:13still here then well it is still here for the moment I did take it to this event at the
30:17weekend
30:17lots of people loved it but nobody actually put their hand up for it
30:22until this morning I've sold it oh you're joking that's great it's not the full asking price but
30:27I managed to get 5795 for it I mean that's not bad I mean still some way off getting Tony's
30:31land
30:32over there isn't it it is but I'm a great believer in dealing with one problem at a time so
30:36this is
30:37now sold we just have to move on our horse box was bought by a theatre and live event company
30:44so it
30:44should have an interesting new life on tour so I started with a car worth around the grand and now
30:52I've turned that into over six grand in just three trades but is it enough to be honest with you
31:00this
31:01trading journey has turned out tougher than I originally thought
31:04I was hoping as well to have a little bit more money to go hunting for a really decent series
31:122a for
31:12Tony not all cars for sale are advertised either bad and looking at ads have decided to put a wanted
31:18post on Land Rover enthusiast forums they're a tight-knit community and usually a source of well cared for
31:25cars this morning a guy called Ian got in touch that's why today is really important for me
31:31because the guy that I'm on my way to go and see he's a member of the Land Rover owners
31:35club and I'm
31:36hoping he knows his cars and this is going to be a decent one
31:49ah you must be Ian hello Ian how are you I'm Mike pleased to meet you Mike nice to see
31:54you
31:54so this is the car 1964 series 2a Land Rover so that's the 200 TDI a lot more power so
32:01you can
32:01keep up with modern traffic with that lovely so it's got nice modern running gear but wrapped up
32:06in this old original body it has yes nice and solid and uh have you had it long I've had
32:11this
32:11nearly nine years now so why are you selling it well unfortunately uh I need some funds for rebuilding
32:16this one seriously yes wow well Ian that's more than just a weekend's work isn't it that looks like
32:23a real project it needs a bit of work granted uh but this is good I like the patina on
32:28this
32:28can't buy that yeah you can't buy it the wheels could do with a bit of tidy up but that's
32:32not
32:32not hard to do yeah all right let's have a look inside then do you know what I like about
32:38it these
32:39is just how simple they are I mean there's nothing really to worry about it could do with a little
32:43bit of a tidy up it's all right isn't it yeah yeah it's all there yeah I mean having a
32:47little spruce
32:47up in there it's uh it's going to be all right so uh you say it starts stops and runs
32:51really well
32:52oh yes does it for a series two can I take you for a quick test drive of course you
32:56can
33:05old land rovers like this are never going to win any award for refinement and noisy
33:09the raglan cultural they clang and they bang as they go down a road but for a land rover
33:15enthusiast like tony none of that matters the major upgrade on this one happens to be the engine
33:24it's been upgraded to a more modern power plant out of a defender it's got the 200 tdi which means
33:30it's a two and a half liter turbo diesel it's a lot better than the original little four cylinder with
33:37its rattly old gearbox this one actually does get down the road and keeps up with modern traffic
33:42and it's got five gears and that's good for tony because he wants to take this vehicle off-roading
33:48as well as going to the shops apart from the engine upgrade this landy is stock i usually avoid buying
33:55modified cars but with cars like a lamb rover gentle modifications can sometimes add to the value
34:02i think this is the perfect vehicle for tony there are a few things i really would like to do
34:09to it
34:09don't the wheels for one tidy up the interior but they ain't going to cost money they're just going
34:15to cost time and the major problem i've got is ian he wants seven thousand pounds for this and i've
34:21only got six thousand pounds to spend but i know that ian wants to finish that long wheelbase land rover
34:28rotting at his front garden and the only way to do that is to release the cash from this so
34:34if i can go
34:35back and get this for six grand it's the perfect car for tony and i'll be a very happy man
34:41my plan
34:43is to be bold and clear with ian stick to your top price and it puts all the pressure on
34:49the seller
34:57well that was like an event driving that down the road it really was it was bangy clackety noisy
35:03smelly it was all of those things and utterly wonderful so how much did you want for it seven
35:09grand i'm after well you know seven grand is not a bad price for one of these problem is i've
35:15actually
35:16only got in my budget six grand yeah um it's not as much as i wanted to be honest next
35:24we ramp up our
35:25efforts to deliver a land rover for tony so if i was to say that's your car you would be
35:30beside yourself
35:31i would be i'd be over the moon well that's not your car we're on a tough mission to get
35:37ex-paratrooper
35:38tony he's dream land rover i reckon this is the perfect vehicle for tony it's owned and cared for
35:46by a land rover enthusiast but the price is high you know seven grand is not a bad price for
35:53one of these
35:53things problem is i've actually only got in my budget six grand and i know that's not what you
36:01want but because you want to put some money into your uh your long wheelbase one it is going to
36:07another land rover enthusiast he will join the club yeah um it's not as much as i wanted to be
36:13honest
36:16but i think it's time to let it go so yeah i'll do six you would you're a gentleman that
36:21is lovely
36:22thank you so much i really appreciate that no worries yes six grand secures me this fantastic
36:29british icon i think it's exactly what tony wants and there's even money left over to sort the wheels
36:35and tidy the cab before we had it over look at that tony's dream car that is tony's dream car
36:50yes
36:521964 land rover series two he's gonna love this mate honestly it's exactly what he was after it's got that
36:58proper patina that a car of this age should have and a rugged car of this age should have as
37:02well yeah
37:02i don't think these cars need to be pristine i think they wear their age really well i mean it
37:07could do with a couple of little bits that we could tidy up only because i want to give tony
37:11the best
37:12possible car we can uh when he when he finally gets it this is a lot of car for six
37:17grand that
37:18engine upgrade alone probably cost a few thousand the removable hard top's worth hundreds and i've
37:23noticed it's got new aluminium door tops a high-end replacement for the old steel ones which rot out
37:28it needs some cosmetic work doing but that's about time not money
37:38well these have been painted before but badly and as you can see all the paint is peeling off you
37:44can
37:44literally pick it all off by hand but rather than do it all by hand it's much easier if we
37:49get a
37:50pressure washer in i'll be able to clean it all off and it should take the paint off as well
38:05off-white is the colour for a period land rover wheel and hand painting suits the patina of this car
38:17this cab can be a noisy place despite the sound absorbing felt added by a previous owner materials
38:23specially designed for car interiors laid over the top of the old felt will improve the look
38:28and the sound quality in here if you're wondering why i'm bothering to measure this material out
38:39before i put it in the car it's because if you ever tried to do this before if you don't
38:44cut the
38:44material down to size first you've got material everywhere and it ends up looking like you're
38:49trying to wrestle an octopus in a very small space so i'm going to measure it out cut it out
38:54properly to
38:54the right size and then come and glue it in i spray contact adhesive directly onto the old felt
39:04then it's a two-man job to lay the new material over the top
39:19wow i mean i can't say that was easy
39:22well it has totally transformed the interior it just gives it a finished look dare i say in a land
39:28rover might have even given it a tiny little bit of luxury
39:34i've given the car a full check over and service and the 2a
39:40is ready for handover
39:44there's a land rover meet tonight at sywell historic airfield in northampton it's 60 miles north
39:51and we're on our way to meet tony
39:55well i'm going to tell you elvis i love what you've done to this building but those nice
39:59delicate little touches have transformed the outside and somehow you've made it feel nicer on
40:05the inside yeah i'll tell you what it is it's this this roof lining has really made a difference
40:10i thought you know it's had a little bit of luxury i thought it might sort of deaden the sound
40:15a little
40:16bit but it doesn't feel like it's done that at all it's still really loud what
40:26we've arranged to hide our lamb rover in the pack so tony won't know which lamb rover is his
40:36it's really good to see you
40:36what i love about it is there's so many variations on them they're great and they look at this thing
40:40here look this is beautiful when i look at these they are all unique aren't they in their own little
40:46way i think that's what people love about them it's like stepping back in time yeah
40:57tony hello mike how are you yeah brilliant really good to see you this is elvis hey
41:01hey elvis great to finally meet you mate i mean i feel like i know you a little bit already
41:05but it's
41:05great to put the face to you no and you elvis really good meeting you well we're excited jereer
41:09because me and elvis we've been working tirelessly hard to get to this point and there are some
41:14pretty tasty looking lamb robes oh this is just my kind of thing i'm in heaven at the moment have
41:19you seen how many of you here do you want to come and have a look oh yeah i'm really
41:22excited
41:24you've got the late model series 2as the earlier version with the headlights in the middle
41:28and that's what i love so this is like the iconic lamb rover isn't it what's that an early
41:33series 2a yeah that's an early series 2a with the um the grasmia green paintwork grasmia green you
41:39know the paint work on this one as well because this is the the color of the very first land
41:42rover the uh the series one huey is that right yes that is a proper enthusiast that knows that
41:49so if we were to say this is your dream car how would you be about that i would be
41:53over the moon
41:56actually this tony is your dream car really yes sir seriously thank you
42:03get us out of this absolutely fantastic i love it as well you know it's the hard top with the
