00:17I was convinced going into Saturday's game that it was going to be Deshaun.
00:23But despite what Todd Munkin said yesterday,
00:26I think Saturday has to change the thought process and the calculus on that.
00:31Who would you choose?
00:32I would choose Shadur Sanders.
00:34Okay.
00:35A, I think that right now, as we have this conversation,
00:39I believe Shadur Sanders is the better football player.
00:42I believe he gives them a better chance to make plays down the field.
00:46And I'm going by Todd Munkin's metrics here.
00:50The operation on Saturday was very clean with Shadur Sanders on the field.
00:55Um, uh, he only had, uh, he didn't have a single non-competitive throw.
01:00Uh, he made one mistake.
01:02That was the interception, but that was a competitive throw.
01:04Deshaun Watson did not make competitive throws on Saturday.
01:08Uh, and that was embarrassing.
01:10And, um, Shadur Sanders played at his best against the best players that the Buffalo Bills put on that field.
01:20Deshaun Watson did not get the Bills' best players.
01:23He got the guys that are competing for roster spots and practice squad spots,
01:27and he looked like he didn't belong in the National Football League.
01:31That, that was embarrassing on Saturday for him.
01:34Uh, and that's not even talking about his post-game press conference
01:39and the lack of, um, uh, perspective, uh, that we got after the game in the media room
01:50or the booing from the fans.
01:53So, um, I think Shadur Sanders right now is the better player.
01:56He is a player that is on the rise.
01:58You can sell him to fans.
02:01Fans will be, would be excited if Shadur gets, uh, named.
02:06And, um, and I do think that Shadur earned it.
02:09I don't think this is, this is not a pick by me
02:12just because I don't want to see Deshaun Watson on the field,
02:15which, by the way, I don't.
02:17Um, I've seen enough of it.
02:19Um, it's not going to get any better.
02:21Uh, whereas with Shadur, I think Shadur has demonstrated his ability to improve,
02:28and he's also demonstrated the ability to go out there and do what is asked of him.
02:34Darryl, I admitted earlier I was wrong.
02:36I didn't think that they would boo that much.
02:39Um, on Saturday.
02:40Five times, Ken.
02:41That's the, that's the official boo tracker.
02:44Since we're quarterback tracking, the official boo tracker,
02:47uh, and I'm going to credit Nick Wilson for it,
02:50uh, five times that he was booed.
02:52And he deserved everyone because he, he was terrible to watch.
02:55It was awful.
02:55I didn't think he'd be, I didn't think they'd be that vociferous
02:58when he first took the, took the field that they booed him.
03:00I was like, oh boy, I was wrong about that one.
03:01There was 30,000 in the building at about 15,000 of them were Bills fans.
03:06So, okay.
03:08So do you think Bills fans were booing then?
03:10No, I just think that the vocal minority won out,
03:13which, you know, typically happens in, in society today.
03:17So, um, but no, they, they, they were hard to miss on Saturday.
03:21That's why you guys started tracking them.
03:23He really crumbled in the moment.
03:26Yeah.
03:26Well, in that, but that's what he does these days.
03:28And he crumbled in the moment after the game, you know,
03:31what he should have said, because you can't, my, here's my thing.
03:34Like what the Sean, whatever he said, what he said, but like,
03:39you can't be on Wednesday when Mary Kay asks you, Hey, you know, if you,
03:43you know, if you get booed on Saturday, you know, how are you going to handle
03:47that?
03:47And you can't be like, well, I don't care.
03:49Okay.
03:50And then on Saturday, be crying that you got booed, like you, you can't do that.
03:54What he should have said on Saturday was I didn't play well.
03:57I didn't have my best day.
03:59Um, I, I, I, that was not the performance and the last impression I wanted to leave,
04:05uh, for coach Munkin and the organization, uh, for this quarterback evaluation.
04:11I know I'm a better player than that.
04:13I've worked really hard to get back on the field.
04:15That was, that just was not my best today.
04:18That's how he should have answered that.
04:20And that's how the Browns should have coached him to answer that.
04:24Instead, we got what we got from him.
04:26And by the way, Deshaun gets zero sympathy for me.
04:30He's after settlement checks, taxes, and fines, he's walking away with a cool hundred million
04:35dollars here.
04:36Okay.
04:37The, the, the respect that he gets is that he worked hard to rehab and, and come back.
04:42And he didn't just say, Hey, I'm going to, you know, cash out the rest of my contract.
04:47He gets the, he should get the respect of working hard to rehab and, and, and try and
04:54revive his career, but his career is over.
04:57It's, it's, it's plain as day that he's washed.
05:03There's nothing left there.
05:05There'll be an occasional play here or there, but there's no consistency with this guy anymore.
05:12And if the Browns, um, are going to make the decision to start him week one, then they
05:20deserve all the ridicule in the world that they're about to get.
05:24If that's the decision.
05:25All right, Dale had to be a surreal day overall.
05:29I mean, I'm sitting at home going, ah, I don't even know how much I'm going to pay attention
05:32to this game.
05:33I thought all the work, you know, in the, in the joint practice was going to be a bigger
05:37deal.
05:37Well, clearly I was wrong and judging by the booze and then what happened afterwards,
05:43but there was a moment where they showed Denzel Boston on the sideline and he didn't seem
05:47too thrilled.
05:48And it would not surprise me if players were not happy that there were boo birds, you know,
05:54especially when it's their first chance to show off at home.
05:58So how do you think they deal with that?
06:00I know Ken earlier was like, Hey, it's a, it's a, it's a learning moment.
06:03You're going to get booed if you're not a good football player, but you don't see that
06:07around the NFL in preseason game.
06:09Number one at home.
06:10Yeah.
06:11Well, and, and the thing of it is, is in, and I, I said this yesterday on the show with
06:17Nick Padone, shame, shame on Brown's ownership, shame on Dave Jenkins, shame on Andrew Barry.
06:23And if again, they picked the Sean Watson to be the starter, shame on Todd Munkin for putting
06:28Brown's fans in this position and also putting players in this position.
06:34Like I had no issue with what Shador Sanders said after the game in regards to, you know,
06:41when he was talking about we're human beings, treat people with respect.
06:44You shouldn't boo your own, you know, players and things like that.
06:47I really didn't have a problem with those comments.
06:50What I have a problem with is, is the Browns do what they always do.
06:53And that's mismanaged just about any and every crisis.
06:56And this is a crisis for them, uh, and has been for the last five years.
07:02And, um, you know, they, you know, uh, and Shador doesn't have the proper perspective on
07:08everything that's going on here, because I, I, I don't think that those boos were just
07:13about Deshaun being terrible.
07:15I don't think that those boos are just about him being an accused creep.
07:19I don't think, I think that those boos are the residue of just everything.
07:23Like the hopelessness that some fans I think feel, especially if, again, they name him
07:27as the quarterback, there'll be no reason for Browns fans to feel hopeful that they're
07:31going to be able to do a lot this year because Deshaun Watson hasn't shown them that he has
07:35the ability to elevate anybody around him.
07:38Okay.
07:39Like, and, and what sticks out to me is Josh Allen and that joint practice did not have
07:43his top wide receivers in that practice.
07:45Okay.
07:46They were all banged up and he made these guys that I've never heard of before look like all
07:52pros out there with his throws.
07:55Like it just clockwork.
07:56Everything was clockwork.
07:57Now the Browns have these good young quality position players that I, I'm very excited about.
08:04And I think fans should be really, really excited about Deshaun Watson's going to hold
08:08all them back.
08:09Okay.
08:09And, and, and you can't put your players in a position where they got to stick up for
08:13their teammate, uh, you know, uh, publicly here.
08:17And that's what Shador did.
08:18He was taking up for his teammate.
08:20Okay.
08:21And, and in some respects, a mentor as well, uh, because Deshaun has tried to help them
08:27behind the scenes in the quarterback room and coach them up and things like that.
08:31And that's commendable.
08:33Uh, but, and that's what Shador was doing is he was taking up for his teammate on, on
08:38Saturday.
08:38But what's going to happen is this is going to just, just like it was a few years ago,
08:43this is going to turn into players against fans and the fans don't deserve that.
08:48The players don't deserve that.
08:50And, and again, this is a crisis that the Browns continue to show.
08:54They have the inability to manage.
08:56And, and, and if, you know, we all know what's going to happen.
08:59Was it September 27th is the home opener against Carolina.
09:03Like if, if the Sean's the starter in that game and he plays terribly, we know what that
09:08scene is going to look like in that stadium and is that what you want to expose all these
09:14up and coming young players to, and have them have to answer questions about after the
09:21game and stick up for their guy and chastise the fans for booing their teammate and things
09:26like that.
09:26That's really what you want as an organization.
09:29So I just, I see no juice worth the squeeze right now in starting Deshaun Watson.
09:36He should be in, this should be a Houston Texans 2.0 situation.
09:41He's getting paid contract is honored, appreciate everything that he's done, respect and appreciate
09:47all the work that he did to get himself in a position to compete for this job again, but
09:51in his best interest, both mentally and physically, and in the best interest of the Cleveland Browns,
09:56he will not see the field for this team ever again.
09:59That's what the Browns need to do, but they, they, they don't have the stones to actually
10:05do what's right.
10:06Well, can they do that?
10:07Yes, they can.
10:08If the Texans can do it, Ken, they can do it.
10:11Okay, but he was agreeable to it when the Texans did it.
10:14Well, why, why, well, like, okay, why wouldn't he be agreeable of it after what happened Saturday
10:21night?
10:21I have no idea.
10:22That's his decision, but I'm just looking at, you know, right to work, things like
10:25that.
10:26Like, I don't know.
10:26Yeah.
10:27Like there are other precedents here.
10:28It's part of the reason they opened the practice window for him last year, right?
10:31I mean, he was physically, he'd be physically healthy, physically able, you know, now they
10:35didn't put him on the field for his own safety coming off that, that injury.
10:38But yeah, I understand what you're saying, Ken, but he absolutely should be agreeable
10:42to it.
10:43A hundred percent.
10:43You don't have to put yourself in physical harm's way and you're at no risk now of getting
10:48hurt again.
10:50You get paid your money, you lose nothing out of it, and you can, you can be in the building
10:57if you choose to be in the building and around the team, that's, that's your decision.
11:00But if you want to go home to Texas or wherever his home outside of Northeast Ohio is, you're
11:06more than welcome to do that as well.
11:08Like I, cause I also don't think that it's fair to Deshaun to put him out there at this
11:13point.
11:14Like, I think that there's that part of the conversation as well.
11:16It's not fair to him.
11:17It's not respect.
11:18You want to talk about respect?
11:20It's not respectful of him to put him out there.
11:22Cause if he goes out and plays bad, the fans are going to boo him and that's going to make,
11:26you know, that, yeah, I mean, I'd feel bad too.
11:29If I'm getting booed, right?
11:31Like that, that's, that's a human reaction that he had Saturday, but like, man, like, do
11:37you really want to put your young players, your organization and Deshaun Watson in this
11:42position?
11:44Like, and again, what have you seen from him that gives you the hope that he's going
11:49to elevate this franchise?
11:51There is no hope.
11:52He's not going to elevate the franchise.
11:54At least with Shador Sanders, there's the hope that he can potentially elevate.
12:00And, and, and that's what it comes down for me.
12:03I just think that there's, uh, there, there's nothing to gain.
12:07There's only negativity to gain by putting Deshaun Watson on the football field.
12:12I have other questions about this year's team, but I got a very limited amount of time right
12:16now.
12:16Uh, Nick Chubb, where does he stand with you and your pantheon of all time Browns greats?
12:21Uh, he, I mean, I'd say in post 1999, he's on the Mount.
12:26He's, he's one of the four, uh, on Mount, on the post 99 Mount Rushmore.
12:30Um, I think he's the third or fourth best running back only because of his career was
12:37shortened due to injury, which is unfortunate, but he is, he is just the best of the best
12:42did it right off the field, did it right on the field.
12:45Um, I think we talked about it Saturday on the radio network, Ken, that, that run against
12:50Houston, 50 plus yards chance to score.
12:52You're up three points and he runs out of bounds at the two yard line to make sure that
12:56they can kneel out the clock and no chance for the Texans to come about.
12:59That is absolutely vintage Nick Chubb.
13:03One of, if not the most unselfish player I've ever watched.
