09 October - National Morning Forecast presented by Clare Nasir
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning, which is damp for some.
00:05For most, it's a fine day. We are chasing clouds. There will be some brightness in the sky as well.
00:10Let me take you through the bigger picture first of all.
00:12Low pressure sits towards the north of Scotland, hence the reason why it has been rather windy and gusty across Scotland.
00:17And in fact, cloud and rain continues just to file in from the west.
00:21But notice high pressure building from the south.
00:24Now, as it intensifies and extends towards Scotland, most places seeing those light breezes into the weekend.
00:29Some brighter skies coming through, clouds just circulating around the periphery of the high.
00:34But most places will be dry, and in fact, that sets the scene for next week as well.
00:38Now, for the time being, we are picking up some dampness in the air, certainly across the far west of Scotland.
00:43But for most of Scotland, it is dry a few showers for Shetland.
00:46We run into this weather front here.
00:48This is a weakening affair as it moves southwards and pretty much disintegrates.
00:52But through this morning, you'll see some rain just south of Glasgow, extending to Ayrshire,
00:56down for East St Galloway, border regions, Cumbria, the North Pennines, and much of Northern Ireland as well.
01:01So over the Moor Mountains, with that low cloud, poor visibility if you are travelling.
01:06A similar situation for the southern uplands and the hills just towards the north of England there.
01:11Now, to the south of that, it's mostly dry.
01:13We've seen some lighter breezes overnight, and you may run into some mist and fog as we start the day today.
01:19But there will be some brighter skies around as well as the sun rises.
01:22Not too bad at all.
01:24Notice this cloud will remain quite stubborn, though, across more western areas, exposed to the breeze coming in from the west.
01:31So through the morning, this weather front here weakens as it gradually clears the central belt.
01:36So some drying skies here, if not some sunshine.
01:39We hang on to the dampness through the morning into the afternoon.
01:41Northern Ireland, northwest England, that's Cumbria, probably Lancashire as well.
01:46And the far north of Wales, so certainly there could be a bit more clouds until lunchtime into the afternoon.
01:53It could break at times.
01:55Elsewhere, brighter breaks arriving, some sunshine coming through, although more clouds across the west there later.
02:00And notice it is gusty over the highlands as well.
02:03Temperatures then, 17 to 19 degrees Celsius, feeling fairly pleasant in shelter with any brighter breaks.
02:09So that's a picture through this afternoon.
02:11As we head into Friday and the weekend, you've already seen the synoptic chart.
02:14High pressure continues to build.
02:16Winds become lighter.
02:17Most places will be dry.
02:19There will be some sunshine around.
02:21And in fact, through the weekend, watch out for mist and fog by night.
02:24But by day, the clouds should break and we'll see some sunshine.
02:27I'll see you later.
