00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05We do have rain spreading southwards and eastwards today.
00:09Fresher air moving in from the northwest with blustery showers.
00:13However, through the afternoon and into evening time, things tend to settle down.
00:18Still some coastal showers, but it will turn chilly inland into the early hours of Thursday morning
00:24before later on in the day that cloud arrives with some outbreaks of rain across Northern Ireland
00:29and Western Scotland.
00:31For the time being, if we're stepping outside this morning, a brisk breeze across Shetland-Orkney,
00:36the western half of Scotland, Northern Ireland away from the southeast where we are seeing those showers.
00:42Clearer skies further east and south across Scotland, the far north of England.
00:46And then we run into this cloud and rain. It's blossomed overnight.
00:50We've seen more intense bursts just riding up from the southwest and it is all pushing its way southeastwards.
00:57It does mean a clearance coming in from the northwest as we head through the morning and into the afternoon.
01:04But if you are travelling first thing, expect some spray, some poor visibility if you encounter this wet weather.
01:11So here's the progress of the rain from about 3 a.m. this morning.
01:14As you can see, it's intensifying from the southwest, so some heavier pulses.
01:18And again, the whole system is moving southeastwards.
01:22It does mean a bright start across central eastern areas of Scotland, Northern England.
01:27Wales then seeing a few showers, but also some brighter breaks and a brisk breeze down towards the west country
01:32as well as Irish seacoast and stronger winds also towards the north as well as the west of the country
01:37with some heavy showers and also the chance of thunder.
01:40Now, by afternoon, you can see where the rain is still east Anglia, the home counties in Kent, even with
01:46the odd rumble of thunder.
01:48Elsewhere, some brighter breaks and also those scattered and heavy showers at times.
01:53But temperatures, particularly across England and Wales, will be a lot lower than what we've been experiencing.
01:59Probably the first day across the UK where we haven't seen 20 degrees for quite some time, more than 115
02:05days.
02:06And that's because we've got this cold front, which is clearing and dragging in this fresher air.
02:11So these temperatures are probably about average for this time of year, if not slightly above.
02:16Even so, relative to what we have experienced, yes, it's going to feel fresher, particularly across England and Wales
02:22and even across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:23With that fresh north to northwesterly wind, temperatures struggling, so a good couple of degrees lower than yesterday.
02:29And those showers through the day could turn thundery.
02:33So through this evening and overnight, that rain continues, still some heavy pulses, Essex, Suffolk and Kent before it clears.
02:41And then we're talking coastal showers along this east coast.
02:43Showers running in from Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Channel towards Irish seacoast, Wales, as well as the west country.
02:50And again, that brisk breeze here.
02:52Inland with a ridge of high pressure coming through.
02:55Yes, we'll see some clearer skies and it will turn cold wherever you are.
02:59So temperatures in the towns and cities probably coming in around five, six degrees Celsius, lower than that across more
03:07rural spots.
03:08So a cold morning as we enter the day on Thursday.
03:11But it will be bright with some sunshine.
03:13These showers on this eastern strip will tend to just fade towards the North Sea as we head through the
03:20day as the cloud thickens from Northern Ireland.
03:23So what that means as we head through the afternoon, yes, we will hang on to the sunshine across many
03:28eastern areas of Scotland, central parts and much of England and Wales.
03:33But for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, that's where the cloud will thicken and we will see some outbreaks of
03:38rain.
03:38Temperatures then probably the mid-teens down towards the southeast, possibly 17 degrees Celsius.
03:44So here's that fresh air, the cool conditions, and then here's that next weather system moving in.
03:49The winds pick up, outbreaks of rain, blustery showers to follow.
03:53So all in all, yes, some mobility to our weather through Saturday into Sunday, more showers likely, and still that
04:00wind, particularly across more northern and eastern areas.
04:03So here's your city's list for the end of the working week for Friday.
04:07We hang on to some rain across southern counties and then it showers elsewhere.
04:12Temperatures probably 14 or 16 degrees Celsius, higher further south, despite the fact there will be more on the way
04:18of cloud and also a little wet weather.
04:21Wherever you are, have a lovely day. I'll see you again soon.
