Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Now for some of us, it's a bright start with some dry weather but it's not going to last.
00:10Two batches of rain moving northwards.
00:12The first one across central and northern areas of Scotland, a brisk wind here, a little
00:16hill of snow as well.
00:17Showers grazing western Scotland, the far east of Northern Ireland, drier skies southern
00:22Scotland, northern England, the Midlands, central and northern areas of Wales.
00:26A little rain across Norfolk but more persistent rain and a strong wind returning across central
00:31and southern areas of England and Wales, pushing in through the early hours of the morning.
00:37Notice where the drier weather is and this rain extending northwards as we head through the
00:41morning.
00:42By mid-morning that rain will have reached much of Wales as well as the Midlands through
00:46the afternoon, northern England as well as Northern Ireland and then by mid-afternoon
00:51reaching the central belt of Scotland.
00:53Showers will follow, there will be blustery, rain becomes confined to the north east of
00:58Scotland with a strong wind here.
01:01Some drier skies though across the north west of Scotland.
01:05Temperatures here 7 or 8 degrees Celsius, 11 or 12 across central and southern areas but
01:09watch out for some heavy downpours through the afternoon and into evening time with that
01:14strong and blustery wind.
01:16So that's the picture through this afternoon.
01:18No one immune to that wet weather.
01:21And then this rain warning kicks in for central and eastern areas of Scotland through this
01:25evening and overnight.
01:26And the reason why?
01:27We'll continue to see that rain piling in from the southeast through tonight into tomorrow
01:33as well as Friday.
01:35Some high rainfall totals are likely here.
01:37Elsewhere, those showers will band together through this evening into the early hours of
01:42Thursday morning.
01:43Low pressure sits towards the west there and that cloud and rain just swirling round it.
01:49The winds will be a feature of the weather into Thursday across eastern parts of Scotland
01:53as well as England.
01:54And that rain continues to pile up particularly across the Cairngorns as well as the Grampians.
01:59And they're turning to snow over the highest mountains through into Thursday morning and
02:03then more so at lower levels still at elevation through the day and into Friday.
02:09So Thursday morning looks like this.
02:11You can see more persistent rain across central and eastern areas.
02:15Not a particularly cold start to the day but unpleasant for many and showers are further
02:20west.
02:21Again that wind will be a feature of the weather as we head through Thursday morning into the
02:26afternoon.
02:27Here's that rain warning first thing then and the rain continues to fall so the risk of
02:32some flooding.
02:33As the air becomes steadily colder we'll see snow above around 300-400 metres and those
02:39showers will be slow moving across Northern Ireland, England and Wales.
02:43So let's just zoom into that warning zone through Wednesday into Thursday as well as Friday
02:49covering much of the Grampians you can see here extends further north as well as east.
02:55Slow moving bands of rain extending across the country above the well probably about 2-300
03:02metres, 80-120 millimetres rain but it will turn increasingly to snow as we head through
03:07Friday with wintry showers to follow into the weekend.
03:11The air turns steadily colder through into Saturday.
03:15Elsewhere low pressure sits towards the south-west and that will produce some strong winds so it's
03:20worth noting that if you are out and about through the latter part of the week.
03:24And remember today it's 10 day trend day so check out our YouTube channel later and I'll
03:30see you again soon.
