00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05It's cloudy outside with outbreaks of rain. We also have two rain warnings, one across
00:09North Angus as well as Aberdeenshire. Higher ground mostly we've seen the rain slowly
00:14push in over the last week and it continues through the next 24 hours. And then we have
00:19this warning for rain across the south west central southern parts of England as well
00:24as the higher ground just north of Cardiff. Here we could see up to 30 millimetres of
00:29rain in places, certainly the risk of further flooding here as that rain
00:33continues throughout the day. Low pressure sits towards the south west. We have a
00:38strong east to south easterly wind making it feel cold particularly along this east
00:43coast and that wind as it hops over the Highlands, the Pennines, is going to turn
00:48rather gusty. Into Friday we continue with a temperature contrast north to south, mild
00:54in the far south west but still chilly in the north particularly with that wind.
00:57And that wind will be a feature of the weather through this morning. Outbreaks of
01:00rain just coming in across Shetland covering most of Orkney. Cateness seeing
01:05some central southern parts of Scotland. Eastern areas as well that cloud piling in
01:11and slowly the freezing level or the snow line will fall so increasingly you'll see
01:16the chance of that snow falling over hills and mountains as we head through the
01:21morning and into the afternoon certainly for this evening as well. Now further south a little rain just
01:27clipping the far north of Northern Ireland and that rain extends down towards Pennine
01:31districts where yet again we've seen that wet weather come and go throughout the
01:35night. A lot of clouds across the Midlands, eastern counties and here's that rain. We're
01:39running into the rain across much of Wales coming and going. The Midlands, the
01:43southeast, central southern England as well as the west country where it's turning a
01:46little showery here. Winds will be strong towards the south as well and we watch the
01:51progress of this rain as it pushes northwards through today. At the same time this
01:56relentless easterly wind has been with us for so long now. We'll continue to push
02:01in that cloud and rain and steadily the risk of snow over higher routes as we head
02:05through into evening time. Through the afternoon into evening we'll see more
02:09clouds and rain across Northern Ireland again with a blustery strong wind here and
02:14notice the contrast in temperature so the feel towards the south probably 10-11 not too bad
02:19despite the rain towards the north as well as the east. It'll be bracing with that wind.
02:23Through this evening and overnight here's that cloud and rain covering most of the
02:28country yet again away from western Scotland, northwest Scotland where you'll
02:32see some drier skies. The risk of snow accumulating over higher ground into the
02:37early hours of Thursday morning where we continue to see the rain towards the south
02:41just pushing in and extending northwards yet again. So our weather's on repeat and it
02:46will continue to be so as we head through Friday. So wet start to the day for many
02:51areas away from the northwest of the country and it's gonna be a chilly one as
02:55well cold across many areas and if you are traveling over hills or mountains watch
02:59out in the north for the risk of snow. Here's that jet stream towards the south
03:03there affecting Iberia low pressure systems across more southern areas slow
03:08moving as they push northwards across towards the UK through Saturday and into
03:13Sunday and that will bring showery bursts of rain. For the time being then into
03:18Friday morning you can see where the wet weather is. It's a messy picture again we
03:22have that easterly wind producing that cloud and rain on the eastern side of the
03:26country and also on the south we're seeing wet weather here. Northern Ireland
03:31gets away with a dry start and some broken clouds across western Scotland through
03:35the morning. The clouds will increase as the rain pushes northwards through the
03:38morning and into the afternoon. Temperatures 10 in the south probably five or six in
03:43the north. So here's a recap of that low pressure as it slowly moves northwards
03:48through Saturday and into Sunday. It's part of a complex area of low pressure
03:53which means it is slow moving. Winds will come and go and certainly there'll be
03:58some showery bursts of rain. For more details of the weather beyond that check out
04:02our 10 day trend this week it's with Alex Deacon. Have a lovely day.
