12 December - National morning forecast presented by Clare Nasir
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Friday morning which is dry and bright for some
00:05but patchy cloud and rain still affecting central and eastern areas.
00:10It's a slow moving weather front which is weakening all the while.
00:13The air is cold behind it, a bit of a chilly start to the day
00:16but notice a ridge extending from the south allowing for some quieter weather
00:20into the early hours of Saturday morning but that's not the end of the story.
00:23The winds pick up, the rain moves in and more rain warnings have been issued
00:28through Saturday and into Sunday south-west Scotland, north-west England, north-western parts of Wales.
00:35Gusty winds over the hills and the highlands but at least the air turns milder.
00:39First thing then this morning, it's a cold start to the day across central and western areas of Scotland
00:44as well as Northern Ireland. You can see where the rain is, it's clearing the east coast of Scotland
00:49through the next few hours. We're seeing some patchy rain across northern England
00:53but clearer skies to start the day across Wales where it is again rather chilly
00:58down towards the west country. Central southern England, the Midlands and further east
01:03yes, you'll see some rain as we head through the morning. It'll be fairly sporadic
01:07certainly more in the way of cloud around and a bit of a breeze coming through.
01:11That rain extends towards Shetland as well where you'll see the rain
01:15for the next three or four or five hours. So as we head through this morning,
01:20brighter skies emerge once that sun rises but some showers drifting in from the west across
01:25western Scotland and eventually we could see some across the west of Northern Ireland.
01:30Through lunchtime then, you can see where the rain is, it's really east Midlands,
01:34home counties eastwards and again it will just come and go with brighter weather emerging across
01:39northern England as well as the west Midlands. Those showers though slowly pushing inland
01:44as the wind picks up across Scotland and here temperatures 7-8 degrees Celsius hanging on
01:49to that milder air across eastern counties of England 11 to 13. So that's the picture
01:55through this afternoon. Through this evening we lose the rain across East Anglia but those
02:00showers continue to file in on a brisk wind and they could turn heavy across central and northern
02:05areas of Scotland even with little snow across the highlands there. Clearer skies further south as well
02:12even with a touch of frost in one or two rural spots but a bright start to the day on Saturday.
02:17That ridge of high pressure hanging on through the morning. At the same time that rain arrives
02:21across Scotland and Northern Ireland and it will intensify and become persistent through the afternoon
02:26with a strong wind coming in from a mild direction. Eventually then we'll see the rain across the
02:32north west of Wales but for mid Wales south eastwards you'll see dry and fine weather right the way
02:38through the day with some sunshine even down towards the west country despite a blustery end to the day
02:44you'll see that drier weather as well. Not the case though on Saturday across the north this is where the
02:50rain will continue and those rainfall totals will continue to rise. Here's your outlook then through
02:55Sunday. Yet again it's more southern counties seeing less in the way of wet weather drier conditions with
03:01a fair amount of cloud but that rain continues through Sunday as those rain warnings extend into
03:06the latter part of the weekend. Take care and I'll see you again soon.
