00:00Shadour Sanders spoke at a passing camp.
00:02We're going to hear from what he had to say.
00:04First, just reflections on Scott Patrick and what we heard.
00:07If you missed any of that, you can always go to the Odyssey app.
00:10I asked Scott a question, and I do think this.
00:15I'm not crazy about either one of these options as the Browns starting quarterback,
00:20Deshaun or Shadour.
00:21I'm not crazy about either one.
00:23But I also have a hard time picturing either one of those guys
00:27being the backup quarterback on this team.
00:30I have a real hard time picturing Deshaun as the backup quarterback.
00:36I just don't see it.
00:39You know what I mean?
00:40It doesn't mean it can't happen.
00:42If Shadour just beats him out, great.
00:44But I have a hard time picturing Deshaun standing there,
00:50not wearing a helmet, holding a clipboard,
00:52and getting into Shadour's ear as he comes off the field.
00:57And after all of the attention Shadour had heaped on him last year
01:05as the starting quarterback in the latter part of the season,
01:08I have a hard time picturing him going back to being a backup.
01:12Now, neither one of their plays screams starting quarterback to me.
01:16But it doesn't scream backup either.
01:18Well, no, it does, actually.
01:20But I have a hard –
01:21Yeah.
01:22I mean, Deshaun's not been very good here, Andy, when he's been healthy.
01:26I just have a hard time picturing either one of them in that role.
01:30I mean, they both probably – at this point, the way they've both played so far –
01:36and again, I think Shadour has upside.
01:38But the way they've both played so far, they both scream backup quarterback.
01:44But that's not going to be the case.
01:46Jeff, I can't see either one of these guys being a backup either.
01:50In fact, I either see it – one of the – well, and they're not trading Deshaun.
01:55So, I mean, I can see them trading.
01:58Wouldn't that be stunning?
01:59I can see them, you know, in this world, if they come back
02:03and you're looking at – if you're looking at a situation where you don't think –
02:08first of all, do you think – let me start there –
02:12that Taylor Green could be on the practice squad?
02:15Sure.
02:16I do, too.
02:17If he can get there, yeah.
02:19All right, so if they think they can get him through to the practice squad,
02:22then it doesn't matter.
02:23You keep your three quarterbacks there, and then you rotate,
02:25and you don't have to make a move.
02:27But if they think they can't keep him on the practice squad,
02:30I don't know why that would change between now and the season starting.
02:33Or they feel like they can bring in another quarterback.
02:38I don't see them bringing in another one until next year's draft.
02:41I see either one of these guys being injured to start the season, Jeff, or traded.
02:45And Deshaun trade doesn't sound like it's anything.
02:49Likely.
02:50Gabriel trade does feel more realistic.
02:53I don't know.
02:54Hey, he's our third-round pick,
02:56and he got beat out by our fifth-round pick, apparently.
02:59So, want to give us a seven?
03:02Jeff, Jeff, Shador Sanders was not really a fifth-round pick.
03:04Come on.
03:05We all know he wasn't really a fifth-round pick.
03:08Not even going to go there.
03:11Right?
03:11We've heard that before, though.
03:13Constantly.
03:13Well, yeah.
03:14For obvious reasons.
03:15You know why?
03:18Well, forget it.
03:20Because of his Alamo boy?
03:21No, I was going back the other way.
03:23I had it reversed in my mind.
03:25Excuse me.
03:26All right.
03:26So, Shador did speak, though.
03:28Yeah.
03:28At his camp yesterday?
03:30I want to hear some of the things that he had to say.
03:32Yeah.
03:32At a passing camp.
03:33So, let's start with this.
03:35How has the offseason gone, Shador?
03:37I would say, if you talk to me, do you feel like I improved?
03:42Okay, then.
03:43So, I improved in that.
03:44I improved in that space.
03:45I would say, overall, everything I improved.
03:48I would say, the way I sleep, the way I breathe, the way I drink water, the way I do
03:53everything
03:54in my life, I improved.
03:55So, everything improved.
03:58He used to drink water going off his top lip, and now he's adjusted the style to come off
04:04the bottom lip.
04:04I thought he would do a pre-smell on the water and then drink the water.
04:08Now, I think he's eliminated the pre-smell.
04:11You know, you've got to leave a little room at the top of the bottle so the airflow is better.
04:15You get a good flow.
04:19It's like half.
04:20You've got to leave half of that.
04:21That was funny.
04:21You have to keep half.
04:22His comment was funny.
04:23Yeah.
04:24Maybe he's drinking.
04:25He's hydrating more.
04:26That's wonderful.
04:28You know, Todd's going to give him a lot of hydration breaks.
04:31That's true.
04:32So, you better be ready.
04:32No, we can't have hydration breaks.
04:34The next thing you know, we'll be soccer.
04:36And then everyone will be mad at football.
04:38The other football.
04:39Our football.
04:40We'll get to that in a bit.
04:43So, he feels like he's improved in the offseason, but apparently he feels like he improved every
04:46day.
04:46So, I guess we all should feel the same way.
04:49We should all have a bottle of Sanders water that you can drink any way you want.
04:55Next point, Jeff.
04:57Yeah.
04:58On the competition with Deshaun Watson.
05:02It's the same thing that we've been saying from day one.
05:05You know, we're both trying to be the best version of ourselves we could be.
05:08So, we're not going to let anything get in between of that.
05:10So, it's a level of respect, you know, that we all in the quarterback room have for each
05:15other.
05:15And we're not really emotional when it comes to things that we can't control.
05:18We mainly focus on and thrive on getting better and to work every day.
05:25Buy it?
05:27For now.
05:30At some point, when someone watches someone in any quarterback room and says, man, I know
05:35I can do better.
05:36Especially if you've had success in college before.
05:39And you feel like there's a reason why you're in that room.
05:43There's a reason why Shador Sanders is in that room.
05:44There's a reason why Dylan Gabriel is in that room.
05:48Or Deshaun Watson.
05:51I think to be a quarterback in the NFL, you have to have some sort of ego.
05:56To think that you're better than the other guys.
05:58You think?
05:59I think you have to be able to walk forward without portraying that you think you're
06:05better than everybody.
06:07Mentally, when you hit the field, you better believe it.
06:09You better believe there's a reason the coach gave you the ball and let you go play
06:12a quarterback to go out there and say, hi.
06:15Do you think these guys are going to play nice all through camp?
06:18To us?
06:19Yeah.
06:19I'll bet they are.
06:20To us, yeah.
06:21I'll bet they are.
06:24If I'm Gabriel, I'm kind of stewing a little bit.
06:26If I'm Dylan, I'm steamed.
06:29It's like, excuse me.
06:33Andy, if Dylan had me.
06:34If I'm Dylan Gabriel, I wake up every morning going, why did this team draft me?
06:38Why?
06:39I don't understand.
06:41And he might also ask, wait a minute, why aren't I in this competition?
06:48Maybe he is and we don't know, Jeff.
06:51No, Todd Munkin has been pretty vehement that it's a two-man competition.
06:56I don't think you say that publicly, Andy, unless it is.
07:01I just, if a kid had had more opportunity to continue playing, maybe he'd be the starting
07:08quarterback here right now.
07:10I don't know that.
07:11I don't think he played well enough that that's the case in what we saw.
07:15But maybe with, maybe if he had been able to play the second half of the season, hadn't
07:20been concussed, maybe, maybe he would be.
07:23I don't know.
07:24I would think not, but you never know.
07:27But he's got to be steamed right now.
07:29I would.
07:30If I were him, I would be.
07:31Yeah.
07:31I don't care.
07:32You know, what, he got hurt to lose his job?
07:35That's what happened.
07:36Well, it is what happened, but that's, welcome to the real world.
07:41The next question was all about, remember, was Shadour going to go down to Deshaun Watson's
07:47camp in Miami to take part in that passing camp?
07:51Those relationships and how funny it is when you have a lot of dialogue and in different
07:57situations where a lot of your teammates is very fun and it's exciting.
08:01You create these real memories, these real bonds and it's irreplaceable, you know, so
08:06I'm truly thankful that it happened.
08:09I know everybody that came was excited and we had a great time.
08:13Like I said before the camp to you, if I was Deshaun Watson, I absolutely would have
08:20invited Shadour down.
08:21Sure.
08:22Because it's, it's, it's my show and I want to say to you, hey, you're important as far
08:28as being a teammate, but it's also a reminder that I'm probably the number one quarterback
08:32and so you should probably come on down here and let's have some fun and let's try to bond
08:37a little bit and see what happens.
08:39Again, it's a game where you're going to play 17 games a season.
08:41So at some point, one of us is going to be starting something here.
08:45Well, you would think that's the case, huh?
