Tensions over unpaid wages at a major road construction project in Dombivli West escalated after a dumper driver allegedly damaged a contractor’s car in protest, with the incident captured on video and widely shared on social media.

The incident occurred in Raju Nagar, where the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is executing the Titwala–Mankoli–Motagaon bypass project. Workers engaged in the project have reportedly not been paid for over a month despite repeated demands.

Car Dragged Amid Wage Dispute
According to reports, a dumper driver, frustrated over non-payment of wages, used his loaded vehicle to push and drag the contractor-owner’s car—parked in the middle of the road—for around 10 to 15 feet. The car then rammed into another dumper stationed ahead, sustaining significant damage to both its front and rear.

The driver fled the scene after the incident. No injuries were reported as the vehicle was unoccupied at the time.

Workforce Anger Mounts
Labourers working on the bypass—covering stretches from Aadharwadi-Durgadi to Govindwadi, Khambalpada-Kachore Creek, Ganesh Nagar to Kumbharkhanpada, and Devi-cha-pada to Motagaon—have alleged that wages have been pending for over a month. Workers, many dependent on daily earnings, have been repeatedly demanding payment, leading to growing resentment at the site.

Sources indicate that the delay in payments may be linked to pending dues yet to be cleared by authorities to the contractor.

Police Probe Underway
Vishnunagar Police have taken cognisance of the viral video and launched an investigation into the incident. Officials are examining the circumstances leading to the act and identifying the driver involved.
