In a significant development from Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, the body of a man buried seven months ago was exhumed in Mohammadpur Rustampur village following orders from the Allahabad High Court for a fresh post-mortem.

Police and administrative officials were present during the exhumation, which was carried out amid allegations by the family that the death was a case of murder.

The deceased, identified as Arish Ali (32), had died under suspicious circumstances on August 7, 2025, just months after his marriage to Rahima. At the time, his body was found inside a room in a blood-soaked condition, with a firearm reportedly recovered from the scene. He was later declared dead at a hospital in Meerut.

Initially, the circumstances surrounding the death remained unclear and the body was buried. However, the family later approached the court seeking justice, alleging that Arish was shot dead by his wife.

Acting on the family’s plea, the High Court ordered the exhumation and a second post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Murder Case and Absconding Accused
Based on complaints by the deceased’s mother, Falaknaaz, a murder case was registered against Rahima on August 18, 2025—ten days after the incident. The family alleged that Rahima was unhappy with the marriage, frequently quarrelled, and demanded separation.

Following the registration of the case, the accused and her family members reportedly went absconding and switched off their phones. Police said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest her.

Delay and Local Protest
The family also alleged initial inaction by police despite multiple complaints. The FIR was registered only after intervention by senior officers. The delay triggered anger among villagers, who organised protests and a candle march demanding justice and the arrest of the accused.

Ongoing Investigation
CO Garhmukteshwar Varun Mishra said the case is under investigation and all evidence is being examined. The fresh post-mortem report is expected to play a crucial role in determining the course of further action.

Authorities stated that necessary legal steps will be taken based on the findings.
