A passenger died after being hit by a speeding Vande Bharat train at Barh railway station near Patna on Tuesday, in an incident attributed to negligence.

The deceased has been identified as Mithilesh Yadav, a resident of Lalpur village under Bhadaur police station limits. He had reportedly come to the station to board a train.

Accident on Track
According to eyewitnesses, Yadav stepped down from platform number two onto the railway track near pole number 480 on the down line to spit tobacco. At the same time, the Patna–Howrah Vande Bharat train was passing at high speed.

Unable to notice the approaching train, he was struck and sustained critical injuries.

Treatment and Death
The incident caused panic at the station. Railway Police reached the spot and rushed the incident nearby hospital. After initial treatment, he was referred to Patna due to his critical condition but succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Police Statement
Railway Police SI Virendra Prasad said that prima facie the incident appears to be a case of negligence, as the passenger failed to notice the oncoming train.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.

Safety Advisory
Railway authorities have reiterated their appeal to passengers not to step onto tracks or cross railway lines, warning that such negligence can lead to fatal accidents.
