‘Love Jihad’ Allegation Sparks Violence: Man Assaulted in Bareilly, Video Under Probe

A disturbing incident has surfaced from Bareilly, where a young man was allegedly assaulted by a self-styled group member over claims of “grooming” a minor girl. A video of the incident has gone viral, prompting a police investigation.

According to reports, the incident took place in the Cantonment area, where Rishabh Thakur—reportedly earlier externed from the district—was seen beating and abusing a youth from another community after spotting him with a girl.

Police sources said Rishabh Thakur has prior cases registered against him, including at Baradari police station, and had earlier been jailed for creating disturbances. Despite restrictions on his movement, his alleged presence in the area has raised questions over enforcement.

Officials have stated that the authenticity and timing of the viral video are yet to be verified. Manush Pareek said that action will be taken based on findings of the investigation.

Authorities have urged caution, noting that claims circulating on social media, including allegations of “love jihad,” are unverified and under scrutiny.
