A professor at PES University, Bengaluru, has come under serious allegations of making derogatory and communal remarks against a Muslim student during a classroom session, triggering widespread outrage.

According to reports, Dr. Muralidhar Deshpande allegedly referred to a student, identified as Affan, as a “terrorist” multiple times and subjected him to verbal abuse in front of nearly 60 students, creating a hostile environment.

Witnesses claim the professor also made controversial remarks such as linking the Iran conflict to “people like you,” stating “Trump will take you away,” and calling students “idiots” who would “go to hell.”

In a concerning development, CCTV footage from the classroom—considered crucial evidence—was reportedly deleted, raising questions about transparency and accountability within the institution.

Students who supported the victim allegedly faced disciplinary action, with the administration citing “talking during class” as grounds for suspension.

While the professor is said to have submitted a written apology to the institution, no direct apology has reportedly been made to the student. The department head has apologised on his behalf but is also accused of indirectly pressuring the student with statements suggesting institutional influence over media and advising him to “think about his career.”

The incident has reportedly caused significant distress to the student, who, instead of receiving support, allegedly faced continued pressure and isolation.

Meanwhile, a police complaint has been filed by the National Students' Union of India against the professor over the alleged incident.

Following the controversy, the university has suspended Dr. Deshpande. However, the administration is yet to release a detailed public statement on the matter.
