02 April - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Yes, Storm Dave is on its way. It's going to bring some very windy, wet and wintry weather to northern
00:06parts in particular as we go through Saturday.
00:09But before that, we actually have some fine sunny weather around at the moment. There's a bit of a ridge
00:14of high pressure.
00:15We do then see a weather system arriving into western northwestern parts later on today.
00:20That will sweep through as we go into Good Friday. But that isn't Storm Dave.
00:24No, Storm Dave is another feature that's developing out in the Atlantic. It's going to deepen rapidly as it heads
00:30towards us.
00:31And like I said, it's mainly going to be affecting northern parts of the UK through Saturday and into Easter
00:36Sunday.
00:36Further south, it will be blustery. It'll be quite windy at times.
00:40And there will be a bit of rain pushing through, but not as unsettled as it will be further north.
00:46Back to the here and now, though. And as I mentioned, a lot of fine weather through Thursday.
00:50A few showers towards some eastern parts of England and across northwestern parts of the UK.
00:55It's cloudy, wet and increasingly windy here as that first system makes its way through.
01:00But for eastern parts of Scotland and much of England and Wales, lots of dry, sunny weather to be had.
01:05And with that, well, temperatures rising to highs of around 13, 14 Celsius for some towards the south.
01:10Further north, many places are staying in single digits.
01:13And obviously with the cloud, the rain and those strong winds, well, it's going to feel quite unpleasant at times.
01:18Through into this evening and this whole feature towards the northwest, well, that will continue its way south and eastwards.
01:25And as a result, overnight into Good Friday, most places will see some wet weather.
01:30And it is going to turn quite windy for many places.
01:33But the strongest winds will be across northwestern parts of the UK.
01:37Some particularly strong gusts.
01:38And they'll continue into Good Friday as well.
01:41There will be some colder air coming in.
01:44So some winteriness, some sleet and snow mixed in with some showers following in behind the more persistent rain.
01:50But with the cloud, the rain and the strong winds for many places, it isn't going to be a particularly
01:54chilly night.
01:55Temperatures holding up for many places, not really dropping a huge amount from the daytime highs.
02:00And so a mild start to Good Friday, but a blustery, wet, windy one for many places.
02:06There will be outbreaks of rain for most of us.
02:08Some of them could be quite heavy at times.
02:10A lot of the cloud clears away towards the east, particularly across northern parts.
02:13But there will still be plenty of showers following in behind.
02:16With some colder air coming in as well, those showers are quite readily going to be a bit wintry.
02:22So some sleet, some snow over modest higher ground.
02:24There could be some hail and some thunder mixed in with them as well.
02:27And all the time we have these blustery winds, some lee gustiness down with the wind of the Pennines perhaps.
02:33And also some strong gusty winds affected the northern isles as we go through the afternoon on Friday.
02:38A bit more cloud towards the south perhaps and some further outbreaks of rain.
02:42And once we do have that colder air across northern parts, which will make it feel quite chilly, especially with
02:47those strong blustery winds.
02:49Further south, temperatures, if anything, will be up a degree or so compared to today.
02:54So feeling that little bit milder, especially if you're sheltered from the wind and do catch any brighter spells, which
03:00will be fairly limited.
03:02Through the evening, we stick with the showery theme across many places and it is still going to be quite
03:07windy.
03:07The wind's easing out for a little bit of time though.
03:10And as we go overnight into Saturday, well, most of the showers are going to dry out.
03:14So actually we wake up on Saturday morning a bit chilly, but largely fine.
03:19However, that fine weather doesn't last.
03:21Storm Dave is going to arrive as we go through Saturday.
03:25It's going to bring some wet, yes, but very windy and perhaps wintry weather, particularly to northern parts as we
03:32go through later Saturday and more so into overnight into Sunday as well.
03:37We're talking gusts of 80, 90 miles per hour in some exposed spots and a significant amount of snow building
03:44up as we go through Saturday and Saturday evening in particular across northern areas as well.
03:50Like I said earlier, further south, it's going to be much less impactful.
03:53Yes, there'll be some rain and yes, there will be some strong winds, but it's not going to be as
03:57unsettled as further north.
03:59Now, we will, of course, be updating you with more details on Storm Dave as we get nearer the time.
04:04But if you want to know more about how it could affect you, well, check out our YouTube special, which
04:09Alex Deacon is bringing to you this afternoon.
04:11Bye bye.
