2026 MXGP of Andalucia MX2 Qualifying Race
Transcript
00:22Hello everybody and welcome to the second round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
00:26We are at the MXGP of Andalusia just outside the town of Almonte.
00:31We are southwest right in the very far corner and just over the border a few miles from here about
00:38half an hour down the road we have Portugal.
00:43The MX2 qualifying race is up next.
00:46In the time practice Camden McClellan Triumph Racing MX2 factory team was fastest and it was a very very tight
00:54session as well
00:54because less than three tenths separated him from the championship leader Simon Langefelder.
00:59Mattis Valan was about 13 hundredths further back and then Sasha Coonan five hundredths behind him.
01:06There's your racetrack seventeen hundred meters long about eighty meters down to that start.
01:10First turn through that left past the foxhole shot line down past pit lane into turn two.
01:17You've got a grandstand there and holds about a thousand people.
01:19Over here the Yamaha grandstand thousand people over there on the far hand side by the orange easy ups another
01:25thousand people.
01:26Then we've got people dotted around in and around all over the place here as we prepare for this MX2
01:31qualifying race.
01:32We've had a little bit of rain over the night Thursday and Friday during the day was all good
01:37and circuit conditions now are pretty much I would say near perfect.
01:41Yes, it's a very choppy racetrack because we've also got we've had two groups of MX125, two groups of MX250.
01:49They've had a free practice, a time practice and a race each.
01:53MX2 have had a free practice and a time practice. So too is MXGP.
01:57So the circuit now for these last two races MX2 and MXGP qualifying is about as tough as it's going
02:03to get.
02:03Well, not as tough as MXGP a little bit later on.
02:06But we're at sea level. It's sandy. It's got a bit of a firm base on the sort of first
02:11part of the track.
02:12Then we get a little bit deeper and then sort of like the final third, it starts to firm up
02:16again.
02:17But that's what it looks like. There's your four intermediate splits into turn four is the end of sector one.
02:22Coming out of turn seven on the liquid molly jump is the end of sector two.
02:27Over on the far side coming out of turn going into turn 12 just before the monster step down is
02:32the end of sector three.
02:33And then we've also got sector four, which is the finish line.
02:40Riders have been out on track for their sighting lap. They're all back in their pens, well behaved.
02:45And they're getting ready for their gate drop. Some of the riders weren't in Argentina.
02:49Those who were obviously probably a little bit more measured when it comes to the gate drop and that run
02:54down to the first turn.
02:55But there's going to be some young warriors out there that might want to make a name for themselves, hero
03:03worship and all the rest of that.
03:07But we are in southwest Spain. Take a seat, love. Take your time.
03:13Take a look down on the grid then. Lisa Layla was down there a few moments ago.
03:16She caught up with Honda HRC Patronus rider Valerio Latta.
03:20Before that, Kaz Volk on the 172 TM Moto CRD Motorsport Factory TM.
03:28Okay, so we're fully warmed up for the MX2 qualifying race. Let's grab a few words with Kaz Volk from
03:34TM CRD Motorsports.
03:36Kaz, I wanted to catch up with you in Argentina, but I didn't get a chance.
03:39But mainly because you've changed teams. It was a busy winter and this is actually your first factory ride.
03:44Firstly, how's the transition been for you? And can you actually noticeably see the difference between the privateer and the
03:50factory bikes?
03:51Yeah, for sure. It's my first factory ride. For sure. It's nice to be a factory rider.
03:57It's no, it's been going good. Also in Argentina was was a good result. I was happy with it.
04:04Most of this weekend is going quite good. Hope to hope to get some even even better in the qualifying
04:10race to take a good start.
04:12And yeah, no, it's going good overall.
04:14I was going to say after Argentina, you're now set ninth in the general standings. Is that where you would
04:19have expected to be at this stage of the game?
04:21And what is your goal for this year?
04:23For sure. It's always nice to start the season inside of the top ten. So I did that. I scored
04:28in all three motors. I scored points.
04:31So that was so positive for sure. It's for sure. You're always aiming to go a little bit higher, but
04:38the season is still long.
04:39We still have plenty of races to go, so we can only build from here. Best of luck. Thank you.
04:44Thank you. Let's now grab a few words with Honda HRC Patronus rider Valerio Latta.
04:53Valerio, mainly I want to speak to you because the last time we saw you was race two in Argentina.
04:57Things didn't go to plan. Actually, what happened and are you okay?
05:01Yeah, in Argentina a big crash with Valerio Latta on the first jump. And I touch him on her back
05:09and I crash. So I don't finish this through in Argentina.
05:12I have pain on my back and my left leg. But yeah, I'm ready. I stay without the bike for
05:22one week for a recovery.
05:23And I was in the Italian Championship last week. So yeah, I have only two training on the bike, but
05:30I'm ready.
05:31I'm ready to fight in this track and with these boys.
05:35It's a new track for pretty much everyone. In terms of start position, where's the best gate pick?
05:40Yeah, the track is really difficult, especially the rain for yesterday. But yeah, I like the track.
05:48Big jump, big ruts on the jump. So yeah, now I'm looking at the gate and we'll see after.
05:55Best of luck. Thank you. Valerio Latta there. Good luck to the guys. It's time for the MX2 qualification.
06:09Great atmosphere here in Andalusia. Despite the weather that we had Thursday night, Friday night, they've come out in their
06:16thousands.
06:17And they've only come to see one thing. Well, two things actually. They want Spanish riders on the podium, but
06:22they also want to see fantastic racing.
06:24Track crews doing a great job getting that start straight all prepped and primed and ready to go for this
06:29MX2 qualifying race.
06:3020 minutes plus two laps. Here's how the riders line up. Camden McClellan for the first time goes to the
06:36gate on pole for triumph.
06:38Simon Langenfelder goes to the line second. Matis Valand, Sasha Kunin, Guillaume Ferez, Giannis Reislis, Valerio Latta, and Liam Everts.
06:46Camden McClellan at 140.910. Langenfelder 0.292 behind him. Then we've got Wolvoort and Carlos Reislis.
06:53Kaz Volk, Nolzanoz, Kai Carsmakers, Julius Mikula, Pele Gundersen in 15th. Decent for him.
06:58And then behind him, we've got Maxim Groves, Scots Molders, Oli Colmer, and the rest, Rossi Van Drunen. Lotta Van
07:04Drunen, of course. 008.
07:12The Debarth's AIT Yamaha rider, Lotta Van Drunen, obviously deciding to get her season up and running.
07:19She raced in Holland last week. She's racing here with the boys this week.
07:22Of course, she's getting ready for the first GP, which I think is in May for WMX.
07:27Camden McClellan, triumph factory MX2 racing team, takes his position behind the gate.
07:34Simon Langenfelder was absolutely on fire in Argentina, but he did score in the qualifying race on Saturday.
07:45Fell through the first turn, had his spokes ripped out of his wheel, rejoined the race after a wheel change.
07:53Crashed, got lapped by Sacha Kunin, unlapped himself in the race just to sort of flex the muscles.
08:00But it was Sacha Kunin who did go on to take that first quali win of the season.
08:06Liam Evertz finished fourth. Guillem Ferez finished second in Argentina.
08:10The triumph racing MX2 factory rider at home was decent in the time practice session fifth.
08:18Less than a second off of Camden McClellan.
08:21Can he do something in this qualifying race just to get the fans fired up?
08:26They've already had a great result in the EMX 250 race.
08:29And there was a lot of noise around the racetrack as a result of that as well.
08:34Nolzanoz, then Rui KTM, didn't have the best time in Argentina.
08:4021st in the championship, 16th in race one, nothing in race two.
08:45But Nolzanoz, 14th in the qualifying race, no points there.
08:51Valerio Latta, seventh in the qualifying race, picked up four points from that.
08:57Remember, it's 10th for a win, 987654321.
09:01Those are world championship points.
09:03They have nothing to do with the overall Grand Prix classification on Sunday.
09:07Romain Fevre, Romain, looking down there intently at the start gate,
09:13wondering where and which position to start from.
09:191.40, Tommaso Lodi takes his position behind the gate.
09:28Green flag at the back.
09:30Green flag down here with Mr. Ingo Parch, our FIM race director.
09:36And the flight racing, 15-second board up for the first time this weekend here in Andalusia.
09:46Sasha Kunin there, number 19.
09:48Giannis Reislis alongside him on the 772.
09:50Then one of the triumphs, probably Ferez.
09:55And it is Ferez.
09:57In fact, triumphs one and two over on the right-hand side.
10:01Good reaction from both.
10:03But it's Ferez who gets a better jump than his teammate.
10:06But it's Giannis Reislis over the whole shot line just like he did.
10:11In fact, Yamahas have taken the whole shots in all four races so far this year.
10:15When you think of Argentina, Saturday, Sunday, both the racial eye were there and in the heat race as well.
10:24Giannis Reislis leads.
10:26Oh, Ferez! Don't crash there!
10:30Not in front of the fans.
10:32Ferez in second.
10:34Third.
10:35Jens Wolvoort.
10:36Fourth.
10:36Sasha Kunin.
10:39Mattis Valant in fifth.
10:40Langenfelder in sixth.
10:43Everts in seventh.
10:44Oh, I tell you what.
10:45From one side of the track to the other.
10:46Who was that taking a wide berth?
10:49Wolvoort.
10:49A bit loose at the moment, isn't he, on the 48.
10:52There's Valant.
10:53There's Langenfelder with the red plate.
10:54McClellan just behind him.
10:55Then Lata.
10:56Then Rodolfo Bicalio.
11:00This big wave section down the back end of the circuit.
11:03Look at the momentum that Sasha Kunin has.
11:06Finds his way past Guillem Ferez at the first time of asking.
11:10Moves into second.
11:20Giannis Reislis, look.
11:21Leading the way.
11:22Out of turn 12.
11:24The left-hander, the Monster Energy step down.
11:26Then into the 28-meter triple.
11:28Down the longest straight on the racetrack.
11:31There's the distance.
11:32There's the gap.
11:32They fixed the landing.
11:34Then that big rolling floater into this turn here.
11:37Turn 13.
11:39And if you get turn 14 right,
11:41you can actually hop over that inside there.
11:44Double your way in.
11:44We saw that in MXGP time practice earlier on.
11:49But it's Giannis Reislis who leads.
11:55Kunin Ferez just there.
11:57Number 19.
11:58Walvoort.
11:58Valat.
11:59McClelland.
12:00Langenfelder.
12:00Evans.
12:00Carsmakers.
12:01Lata.
12:02Carlos Reislis in 11th place.
12:04Look at the intention here.
12:06Ryder closest to us in white.
12:08Jens Walvoort.
12:10The sand flight.
12:13Desperate to flex his muscles to say,
12:15Look, dude, I'm the...
12:17I'm the cloggy here.
12:18I'm the...
12:19I'm the Dutch...
12:19I'm the Dutchman.
12:22Born in this stuff.
12:23Bred in this stuff.
12:25Fancies himself as a qualifying race winner.
12:28Potentially.
12:29Who knows?
12:32Villan not going to make it easy.
12:34Nor is McClellan behind him in sixth place.
12:37There's Kunin second.
12:38Ferez here third.
12:39Walvoort in orange.
12:41Fourth.
12:42Then...
12:42McClellan has found his way past.
12:45Looking very slick at the moment.
12:47Here's Camden McClellan.
12:50He moves up into fifth place.
12:55And looking to go by Walvoort.
12:57Walvoort making himself very wide though.
12:59Through that wave section.
13:01McClellan just has to bide his time.
13:08Quick grabbing the tear off there.
13:10Just over that floater where there was no braking bumps.
13:14For McClellan.
13:17Some gnarly old braking bumps around this racetrack though, aren't it?
13:23Great start to the race.
13:24This though, for Jens Walvoort on the 48.
13:30Cuts across those ruts with that kind of confident Dutch prowess.
13:40That kind of confident Dutch prowess.
13:55He's got to play even though he sits fifth overall in the championship.
13:58Fifth and the seventh on Sunday.
14:06McClellan.
14:07Caught.
14:08Walvoort.
14:10Not able to do anything about him at the moment.
14:12And the number eight.
14:13Currently eight seconds off of Ioannis Reisnes.
14:15He's just set the fastest lap at the end of that official opening lap.
14:181.46.8.
14:19Only a tenth in it between him and Kunin.
14:21But the gap between them.
14:231.6 seconds between the Latvian and the Belgian.
14:26Another 1.8 further back.
14:27Ferez.
14:30And if he starts making inroads towards the front two.
14:33This place will come alive.
14:35Or it should do.
14:38Langers.
14:39Seymour Langenfelder here.
14:41He's in seventh place.
14:44Trying to do something about Matisse Valant.
14:47Takes that high line over the offset here.
14:50Everts just behind him.
14:5126 on the.
14:53Nestaan Husvana.
14:55Everts in eighth place.
15:02Langenfelder.
15:02Langenfelder so smooth through there.
15:06Again looks very poised.
15:08And calm.
15:09Doesn't he?
15:1015 minutes plus two to go.
15:13Doesn't look like he's in too much of a hurry.
15:16Even though he's there in that seventh place.
15:20Here's the situation.
15:22Put the flag out now.
15:23Because qualifying.
15:26Race points go to the championship.
15:29Ferez would lead the championship.
15:31He'll take the red plate into Sunday's races.
15:3355 points to 54 over Langenfelder.
15:37But you kind of sense that Langenfelder.
15:38May just gain a couple of points here.
15:40And a couple of positions.
15:44McClellan will be third in the championship on 49.
15:47Rachelis fourth on 48.
15:52Yanis raceless that is.
15:59Comments from the riders.
16:00Right, watch this here.
16:01Everts.
16:03Wah.
16:04Lucky not to fold the front there.
16:12Working hard is the Belgian number 26.
16:14On the Nestaan Husvana.
16:20Despite his sickness on Sunday morning in Argentina.
16:25Was able to turn in a 7-3 finish in the two races.
16:31Leave the opening round fourth overall in the campaign.
16:34Just nine points off the lead.
16:39Physical track isn't it here.
16:40Working through that uphill wave section.
16:42Through that sweeping turn.
16:44You hit that next big roller.
16:46Jump long.
16:47Try to clear some of those holes the other side of that.
16:51So much going on.
16:52So much movement.
16:53Front end, back end.
16:55Deep sand in places.
16:56And then hard edges elsewhere.
16:59And very firm underneath.
17:01Causing a very unpredictable race track.
17:04Riders are definitely have to be thinking.
17:06One step ahead.
17:13Janis Reislis.
17:142.4 seconds clear at the moment.
17:16After three laps.
17:18Sasha Kunin.
17:19No reply at the moment.
17:25Impressive this from Janis Reislis.
17:26In just his second MX2 Grand Prix.
17:31Everts getting some air time there in eighth.
17:34Two and a half seconds behind.
17:35Simon Langenfelder.
17:36Carlos Reislis.
17:38About 1.8 seconds further back.
17:40Further up the track.
17:41You've got Simon Langenfelder.
17:44Who still.
17:45Hasn't found his way past Mattis Vallin.
17:53Here is your race leader.
17:57Conditions a little bit more suited to his.
18:00Liking.
18:01Take a look at the replay of the start.
18:04What a start it was.
18:06For Rachelis.
18:08Gate number three.
18:09Over on the right hand side.
18:11Got the jump on the two triumphs either side of him.
18:14Langenfelder to the outside.
18:15Langenfelder then lost.
18:17Positions in quick succession.
18:18Coming out of the first couple of corners.
18:19Look he was.
18:20Third.
18:20Then fourth.
18:22Then fifth.
18:22By the time he came out of there.
18:23Look he just.
18:24Got pinched.
18:25Going into the next turn.
18:27Langenfelder.
18:28Made his race more difficult than it needed to be.
18:30Looked like it was a shoe in for a holy there.
18:35Watch Langenfelder here.
18:37Is he fourth now?
18:39Oh this was Ferez look.
18:41Coming up short.
18:42Not as short as Sasha Kunin but.
18:45A close second.
18:52Continues to extend his lead.
18:54Over Sasha Kunin.
18:56Your race leader here.
18:57Yannis Rachelis.
18:59The gap 2.8 now though.
19:041.46.
19:059.
19:061.47.
19:063.
19:08Rachelis and Kunin.
19:09Respectively.

19:15He's finally found his way.

26:44of this
26:44next lap
26:44or two
26:45we're going to have an eight-wheeler at the head of the field
26:48four riders battling for first
26:50that's definitely got Kunan excited
26:54and McClellan
26:55who's all over the back of the 99 now
26:57takes a quick look over his shoulder
27:01just checks where he is
27:04nicely done through that turn there for McClellan
27:09a little bit loose over the step down
27:13looking for that outside line momentum
27:18back marker just there
27:19takes the low line here
27:21may get squeezed
27:24has to pull out of that challenge
27:28two into one would not have gone well in that corner
27:31but look at that
27:32heading up the straight into the left-hander
27:33that's the gap between first second third and fourth
27:37all on the same piece of track
27:39and the gap
27:40between the first four
27:422.2 seconds
27:45Rachel is taking a long look over his shoulder
27:47as he sees
27:47the man in white
27:48Sasha Kunan
27:49ready to make a lunge
27:51down the inside
27:52and the Belgian leads
27:53at the end of lap nine
28:03Kunan
28:04Kunan over the line
28:05a leader for the first time
28:07looking to pick up ten points
28:08and there's a guy who needs championship points
28:11did not finish race two in Argentina
28:14here's how he did it
28:15Giannis Raceless left the door wide open
28:16he knew he was there down the back straight
28:19no challenge from the Latvian in the end
28:28he's now going to come under pressure in the background
28:31from Ferez and McClellan
28:41great methodical ride
28:42this from Sasha Kunan
28:43didn't get phased
28:45by what was going on around him
28:48probably looked up
28:49thought you know what
28:50the rookie to the class
28:51let him have his moment
28:55oh
28:56Ferez
28:57just bounced offline
28:59and his teammate
29:00right back onto the rear wheel
29:01of him once again
29:02this time he takes the inside line
29:04through the waves
29:06well certainly the approach through it
29:09and Raceless
29:10under attack
29:11from the Spaniard
29:12who's looking to burst
29:13into second position here
29:14before the end of the lap
29:15lap ten
29:25great battle between the two triumphs
29:26once more
29:29Ferez knows he can't switch off
29:31because McClellan
29:31will be there
29:32ready to pounce
29:35fans appreciate his efforts though
29:36to this point
29:38going to be three laps to go
29:40comes up short
29:40on the triple
29:43and already
29:44Sasha Kunan
29:45four and a half seconds clear
29:47of this battle for second
29:49now within a space of a lap
29:54Kunan
29:54147.5
29:56Raceless
29:5751.6
29:58that's where the times come from
29:59but the gap being exploded out
30:01to 5.3 now
30:02with three to go
30:05great place to be
30:06if you're Sasha Kunan
30:08not so great
30:09if you're
30:10Giannis Raceless
30:11who has
30:13the crowd
30:16paying
30:17and cheering
30:19Ferez
30:19who may
30:20nip into second here
30:22and he does
30:24to fans like that
30:30Ferez now second
30:31and McClellan's going to go through
30:32in the third as well
30:47Mathis Valan
30:48iron himself up for a move
30:50and so too
30:51Langenfelder
30:55Ferez
30:56still leads the championship
30:57as it stands now
30:5956 points
31:00to 55
31:02Langenfelder second
31:03McClellan on 51
31:10wouldn't that be something
31:11if it stays like this
31:12and Ferez
31:13has a red plate
31:14on the front of the triumph
31:32McLellan looking to go
31:33around the outside here
31:36Ferez
31:36squeezes him
31:39don't think they'll know
31:40the situation
31:41with the points
31:43at the moment
31:48but with two to go
31:49Ferez hanging on
31:50to second in the race
31:52Ferez third
31:53Langenfelder has moved
31:55back ahead
31:55of Raceless
31:56and regains the championship lead
31:58and regains the championship lead

32:06can find his way
32:07past the Spaniard
32:07who doesn't want to lose
32:09a position here
32:10got his best qualifying race
32:12results second
32:12in Argentina
32:13he's going to equal that
32:14if he stays where he is
32:22Calcule
32:22McClellan looks
32:23forces his way
32:24down the inside
32:25he's been sweeped
32:26through there
32:26the entire race
32:27and just eases
32:29past his teammate
32:30Ferez
32:30and into second place
32:41Langenfelder next
32:42he's found his way
32:42past
32:43Valant
32:43and Raceless
32:44and suddenly
32:45finds himself
32:45in fourth place
32:47great couple of laps
32:48out for Langenfelder
32:49what do you say
32:50earlier on in the race
32:51doesn't look phased
32:52or anything
32:55and now we've got
32:55a little bit of traffic
32:56there
32:57with Lotte Van Drunen
32:58in 21st position
32:59leaders are coming through
33:014-0-1
33:02will stay to the inside
33:03try to stay out of the way
33:07Langenfelder
33:11goes past
33:12tries to keep his eye
33:13on Ferez
33:15for a potential top three
33:26back marker there
33:28hopefully realizes
33:29it's the leaders
33:29that are coming through
33:30gives himself a wide berth
33:32into the final lap
33:33Sasha Kunin
33:34seven seconds clear
33:35all of a sudden
33:36Kunin
33:37going to go back-to-back
33:38wins
33:38in the qualifying races
33:40and take the maximum
33:4120 points
33:42towards the championship
33:43and all of a sudden
33:47he'll stay seventh place
33:49but
33:50there are going to be
33:51massive points
33:51for him in the championship
33:52chase
33:59bottom corner there
34:01Ferez
34:0299
34:02Langenfelder
34:03coming towards us here
34:04third and fourth
34:15Langenfelder on the
34:16McClellan line
34:17a little bit tighter
34:19hard push down to the inside
34:22trying to make that move
34:23stick but he wasn't quite
34:24close enough to the Spaniard
34:32won't give up though
34:33will he
34:34the defending champ
34:38I think we know it's not
34:39going to be an easy race
34:40this weekend
34:40that's for sure
34:42it's going to be
34:43challenging
34:44it all depends on how
34:45they prep the track
34:46overnight and throughout
34:47the course of the weekend
34:48especially with the
34:49one dingers and the
34:50two fifties
34:57handful of corners to go
34:58for Langenfelder to try
34:59and get into the top three

37:11like a physically tough track
37:12yeah for sure
37:13because it's really challenging
37:14it's really slippery
37:15so you need to be
37:15really precise
37:16with the lines you take
37:18and all this stuff
37:18so yeah
37:20best of luck for tomorrow
