00:22Hello everybody and welcome to round two of the FIM Motocross World Championship,
00:27the MXGP of Andalusia. We're just outside of the town of Almonte right in the deep south west
00:33of the country close to the Portuguese border. A brand new facility, brand new racetrack and
00:39unusually for Spain we are a little bit more sandy than usual. It's a rough rugged racetrack and when
00:47you look at the times from time practice which was a 140.910 and then the qualifying race lap times
00:55146.334 gives you an indication as to how this sandy circuit can change so very very quickly.
01:01The sun has come out, it's beating down the temperature, the warmest it's been so far
01:06and with the rough nature of this racetrack now it's going to be one very tough test for the riders
01:12here at round two. Hello everybody my name is Paul Malin and welcome to the latest raids,
01:17the latest round of this MXGP World Championship we are in deep south west Spain. There's a quick
01:25glimpse of the racetrack it's 1700 meters long, some big jumps from the finish line there just
01:31next to the start straight as you come around to turn four that's the end of the first intermediate
01:37sector. Bottom of the screen is where sector two ends through the waves couple corners later the left
01:41under there turn 12 that's sector three coming to an end and then the finish line of course sector four.
01:47We're pretty much at sea level which is a world away from where we were two weeks ago in Argentina
01:52where we were 850 meters above sea level up in the mountains. The Spanish fans have already had an
02:00absolute treat here this weekend in EMX 250 the atmosphere was electric and if we get any of the
02:07Spanish riders up front i.e. Guilherme Perez this weekend in MX2 then this place well those fans there
02:15will blow the roof off of it and I'm sure he will enjoy it if he gets a good start
02:20but they are here
02:21for one thing to see a Spanish victor and if you can't do that then get on the podium as
02:25he did at round
02:27one in Argentina. Guilherme Perez sits second in the championship chase coming here to his home Grand Prix
02:37take a look at the circuit in more detail if you're joining us for the first time here's what it
02:41looks
02:41like here at the circuito de motocross del monte.
02:52Ruben Fernandez Honda HRC Patronus took us for a lap yesterday now we had a lot of rain on Thursday
02:58night pretty much all through the night we had a dry day Friday but then it rained again on Friday
03:04night
03:04so this was the track after MXGP practice before lunchtime so around about 11 30 11 40 on Saturday
03:14so you can still see it was still pretty wet not like that now though i have to say down
03:18the start
03:18straight 80 meters over the foxhole shot line pit lane and then turn two this is turn three sweeping
03:24turn three 90 degrees and so from the finish line the other side of the city jump to here is
03:30where that
03:30first intermediate sector ends we get out of here Yamaha grandstand to the left over that single
03:34monster energy step down here it's about 20 meters and then as we speed through turn five it's a
03:41continuous turn big old breaking bumps there as of course the day goes on into turn uh six and then
03:47turn seven goes through 270 degrees actually it just goes on forever and ever and ever and ever loops
03:52around past the monster rig then over the liquid molly jump that's the next intermediate sector done
03:57we're now in sector three landing slightly downhill through turn eight and as we come out of here
04:01halfway to the inside and that automatically wants to ping you to the right hand side but as we turn
04:06nine that go turn right through turn nine and over that offset higher to the right than the left this
04:12is
04:12turn 10. back to the outside but just a very physically demanding racetrack with the heat as well
04:19that's now starting to rise riders will be feeling it out there today this is turn 11 sector three comes
04:24to an
04:24end just as we hit the corner now we've got a grandstand over there on the right hand side about
04:30a
04:30thousand each in the grandstands but there are fans today packed everywhere around this racetrack over
04:36this big triple that's about 28 meters over this floater you'll see some riders jumping long to get
04:40over some of those braking bumps and there are massive braking bumps in here you can go through the single
04:45and you can actually double around this turn now if you get it right this is the penultimate corner here's
04:50the final turn
04:50turn 15. we get out of here we hit the monster energy finish line jump just here we're back down
04:55the start straight for another lap here in amonte
05:05atmosphere starting to build as always
05:09riders have been out on track for their sighting laps already
05:13so they would have seen the track and the condition that the track is in after
05:16that second mx2 race that second emx 250 race of the weekend remember we've had 125 and 250
05:24european action here two groups of each they went through the qualifying process
05:28race one on saturday as always race two sunday morning
05:33and as a result of all of that it's a very physical heavy choppy racetrack and we are in spain
05:41for this second round we've had more than 120 winners of the spanish grand prix since 1962
05:49which was held in ruta arthur lamkin on a bsa 250 victorious that day who will be winning today that
05:56is the big question let's go down to lisa layland she was on the grid she caught up with the
05:59defending
06:00champion simon langenfelder who was fourth in the qualifying race and lotter van drunen the reigning
06:05wmx world champion here just for a bit of a giggle really so we're almost ready for the first mx2
06:14race
06:15of the day but let's grab a word with lotter van drunen who i wasn't expecting to see here
06:19it's definitely a pleasant surprise to see you lining up with the boys again
06:23why here why now is it just to get a few gate drops under your belt before france yes definitely
06:28it's really good for me to be racing that's what i missed last year and i would say there's no
06:34better
06:34practice than an mxgp track so that's why i'm here i'm enjoying my time and like you say getting
06:39some gate drops so that's good and tell us about yesterday's qualifying um time practice and free
06:45practice was pretty good i was feeling good and then in the qualifying race i had some issues
06:50um but that's all fixed now and i can't wait for the first moto okay have a good race good

06:57let's catch up with red bull ktm factory mx2 rider simon langenfelder uh simon let's talk a little
07:03bit about yesterday's qualifying race um seemed like it took you some time to warm up but how
07:08were you feeling yeah it's a new track for us so for sure i needed to take a bit of
07:13time to to feel
07:15comfortable with all those riders around me um but yeah after then in the end it it went quite
07:20good so i started to get a good feeling and yeah i think today it's quite bumpy but actually i
07:26think
07:26that's even better for passing i see you're looking at the gate picks here and a track like this it's
07:30quite i guess quite an even start where's the best place to start for you yeah yesterday it's been
07:36quite wet still on the inside but they've been working on the track so now everything looks quite
07:40even okay okay best of luck thank you simon okay good luck there to simon and all the riders it's
07:45time
07:45for mx2 race one yeah interesting comment there from simon langenfelder because of all that rain and
07:51that rain sort of pushing downhill it's slightly off camber from right to left that start straight
07:55so it was all sort of collecting middle to inside motion on the inside so anybody that really started
08:00there probably got bogged down uh here's what happened in the mx2 qualifying race yesterday if
08:04you weren't with us
08:09mx2 qualifying race then and as you can see the racetrack still starting to dry out it was heavy
08:17over on the left hand side and as we charged into the first turn that's where it gets even heavier
08:22the honest racialists over the hole shot line ahead of everybody else remember he and his brother
08:27bagged all the hole shots in argentina at the opening round on board here with camden mcclellan he was
08:32around about six seventh place just tucked in behind liam evitz there and matis valand over on the
08:36opposite side great start though in second third place watch this here ferez comes up short in second
08:42waldwark behind him then kunan then felan opening lap though good drive for sasha kunan
08:49as he gets by ferez moves up into that second position then goes after your race leader
08:55camden mcclellan didn't make the best start but he was also working his magic he found his way in the
09:00fourth with this move on the ends walvork mistake then from walvork later on in the race lost his drive
09:06lost his feet here that allowed valand to go through that was just around the halfway mark that was for
09:12fifth
09:12kunan then nipped up the inside of janice raceless on lap nine to take over the lead mcclellan all over
09:19the back of his teammate ferez this was fourth place challenging third that was janice race was ahead
09:24of them in second position
09:28down the long back straight
09:30all of a sudden fans on their feet for gian perez as he launched an attack and made the move
09:36for
09:36second position on lap 10 of 13 a couple of corners later his teammate camden mcclellan on the number eight
09:42triumph followed him through and nervous looking janice raceless all of a sudden found himself dropping
09:48down to fifth place great view this from our gopro from camden mcclellan this is through turn five
09:55waited for his teammate to commit dove down the inside and all of a sudden that was
10:02second position for mcclellan sasha kunan though he won the qualifying race in argentina he was set
10:09to make it back to back victories and when he rounded out the final turn that's exactly what he got

10:14kunan and rebel ktm factory racing 1-1 in the quality races mcclellan the second ferez third
10:19langenfelder and janice raceless running out your top five
10:33so after that then here's how the championship looks remember simul langenfelder came here with a
10:38three-point lead over uh guillem perez it's now two between those two camden mcclellan three points
10:47further back then we've got evarts and raceless running out the top five still very tight though
10:51is the opening round raceless moving up to fifth above matis valin after his performance in quali
10:56on saturday
11:09almost all the riders then lined up behind the grid we are just moments away from
11:17the first serious gate drop of this spanish grand prix here the mxgp of andalucia in al monte
11:24sasha kunan goes to the line on pole ahead of camden mcclellan gian ferez simon langenfelder
11:28giannis raceless matis valant niam evans and carlis raceless they're in eighth place
11:35kai carsmakers nine and then jens wolvoort in tenth place kai carsmakers on the number 33 dixon racing team
11:42kawasaki let me add latter vault zanotz gunderson maxim gross got smoulders
11:50ollie colma julius mikula had a big crash yesterday as well just after the waves through that right
11:54over the uh offset there had a big swap chucked him over the bars when i saw him this morning
12:00he said
12:00he was surprised that he even got up and walked away from it but he's in good health good spirits
12:04ready to give it another go today
12:10sasha kunan two poles this year for red bull ktm factory racing looking to make up time though
12:16because seventh in the championship after round one he's still seven but he's only a couple of
12:22points down now on riders ahead of him like liam evans on 45 points so three points between evans
12:27in four sasha kunan there in seven camden mcclellan looks very efficient around the racetrack
12:33on saturday and qualifying looks like he's got the berries and everything else to go with it to
12:38maybe even come and win a grand prix this weekend his teammate might make it difficult for him though
12:44gian ferez especially with the crowd behind him simon langenfelder was cool under pressure in argentina
12:52to bag a double race victory on race day he was fourth in the qualifying race here on saturday
12:58he knows it's a rough track he's got the fitness and the strength will he come out on top again

13:04race round two what about liam evans a quiet race yesterday started eighth finished seventh
13:12normally these kind of conditions would suit the nastar husvan rider matis valand up and down
13:19six fifth and then eventual six for the katasaki racing team rider will there be another foxhole
13:25shot for janice raceless monster and his yamaha factory mx2 got over the line yesterday ahead of
13:30everybody else just as he did on two occasions in argentina carlos raceless got the second of the
13:36foxhole shots in race two on sunday in argentina wasn't so fortunate yesterday mid-pack start for him
13:43eventually came home in eighth for the older of the two rice lie
13:48mr ingo parch the fim race director listening in on the older radio chat
13:56making sure that everybody's in position before we get a green flag at the back green flag down on the
14:01start straight the two tribes down there inside gates
14:07on the left as they line up kunan next to him then we've got the
14:14the 772 of janice racialists gate number four then evans then carlis racialists then langenfelder
14:24then cars makers where will the gate drop come from we will get through that first turn who will get
14:31over the foxhole shot line ahead of everybody else janice racialist took the first race in argentina
14:38carlis racialist the second race the fly race in 15 second border mx2 race one
14:59gates about to drop here in al monte
15:05a lot cleaner run down to turn one sasha kunan over the foxhole shot line runs it wide as well
15:11gives
15:12nobody a chance to come back at him on the exit and it's kunan who leads ferez in second langenfelder
15:20in third
15:33ferez second on this opening lap number 99 where is his teammate there he is a few positions further
15:39back in sixth place look how choppy it is we said there was some big gnarly breaking bumps it's a
15:44little bit warmer evans forces his way down the inside of latter to nick a position from the italian that
15:50puts him in seven
15:56the honest racist there in fourth position
16:01trying to give chase to the number one red bull ktm of simon langenfelder gets better drive than the
16:06defending champion but he's going to have to do it the hard way if he's going to make the move
16:10at the
16:10end of the straight langenfelder holds firm this was all nice and flat yesterday absolutely
16:15absolutely gnarly on racetrack this one not a bad effort for the first time for the organizers here
16:21this weekend captain mcclellan all over the back of the young racialists of janice racialists there
16:3047 at the 47 at the 372
16:39and evans with latter breathing down his neck cars makers just behind
16:46frantic heart rate action here on this opening lap but it's coonan who leads the way
16:53ferez second langenfelder third racialist four mcclellan five balance six evans seven
16:58latter eight cars makers and walvo your top ten mikola carlis raceless volk rossi colma
17:05gunderson vasquez smolders grow and xanox
17:09there your top 20. this one is going to be uh more of a uh a good pace rather than
17:17a massive sprint
17:19but try telling that to camden mcclellan he knows he's got to try and get up front as quick as
17:23he can
17:24doesn't want to lose touch with sasha kunan because give kunan an inch he'll take a mile
17:30as he tries to break free from ferez already two seconds up front
17:35the young belgian valand looks like he's woken up as well today good early start promising start for
17:44the frenchman in sixth position chasing the second rider in shot here camden mcclellan on the triumph
17:56just like we saw yesterday langenfelder just dropping back a little bit here
18:01doesn't need to push too early he knows he's got the fitness we saw that in argentina that altitude
18:08but how much does he give sasha kunan at the head of the field how long before the track comes
18:15to him
18:15before he says you know what feeling a bit more comfortable ready to go now camden mcclellan looks
18:21over his shoulder wants to see where the danger is from valand gaps about 1.6 seconds
18:33see how the ground in certain places a little bit firmer so you get some edgier square edge bumps
18:38you get out of turn four over the the monster jump on the infield where it's a little bit deeper
18:49got a packed house here in andalusia
18:56ferez was the fastest lap of the race that time around on that opening lap 1.45 for his fastest
19:02in
19:02sector one as well he's closing in on kunan 1.2 their gap and whilst he's doing that camden mcclellan
19:08going to work on janice raceless here who goes to the outside mcclellan was very very quick through
19:13here yesterday he looks like he's going to force the issue but the latvian leans on him
19:17says no way jose i'm staying put here in that fourth position
19:26looking solid though isn't he camden mcclellan
19:39you see at the top of the screen there ferez all over the back of kunan as they fight for
19:44the lead
19:46in the corner ahead of these guys
19:49if ferez senses his opportunity to go past kunan of course he'll take it with both hands while his
19:54teammate figures a way to do something about janice raceless here here is that battle for the lead less
20:01and a second now
20:09and they've gapped langenfelder it was two and a half seconds at the top of the hill
20:14with the monster energy step down a couple of corners ago but as we end lap two the gap between
20:19kunan and
20:20perez six tenths of a second the triumph all over the back of the ktm
20:28being told his fastest on track as well which was right up until that last lap when his teammate
20:34took the fastest lap a 145 173 those times quicker than they were in the qualifying race
20:41granted there's been a bit more prep work that was cool wasn't it taking a tear off on the takeoff
20:47not
20:47even in midair but that jump there perez
20:53langenfeld has woken up said right you know what time to join the party
21:05sasha kunan under under attack from guillem perez
21:16gonna be a fascinating race this one isn't it
21:28push too hard on this track it's the kind of circuit with all its edges
21:35that will just catch you out and those berms will suck you in and tip you over if you don't
21:40have the
21:41power to get you out of trouble but all of a sudden perez is in trouble because that mistake there
21:47through the right hander has brought simon langenfelder right onto the rear wheel of the triumph
21:54the left
21:55kunan off the hook for now
22:01langenfelder coming up short on that double into the turn three laps complete sasha kunan over the
22:07line 146 7 perez 47 7 and a 46 3 langenfelder the fastest of the three riders at the head
22:13of the field
22:14the gap between the first three just 2.1 seconds as they hit the line a moment ago
22:26the track is a lot bumpier today than it was in qualifying which should make it better for passing
22:35certainly makes it more physical so it definitely sorts the men out from the boys as well
22:41those who have the fitness
22:45those who have good battery life they will use that to its potential
22:51and make sure it pays when it comes to the end of the race
22:55ferez looking to make up for that mistake that he made he's got the gap back down to 1.7
22:59as he closes
23:00back in on in fact kunan has dropped down the leaderboard
23:06kunan is down
23:13so ferez finds himself leading no wonder he was looking across
23:16and that's either in the right or the left just after the monster energy jump in the middle so
23:22the long left hander turned seven just before liqui molly round there so we've got a new leader and it's
23:29gian ferez
23:33he'd got the gap back down to one point something
23:36and maybe that just spooked sasha kunan because he had a couple of seconds on him
23:43sasha kunan now throwing away massive points he's down in ninth place
23:48and less pressure now for simon langenfelder to react watch this here oh yeah through that left
23:56bike facing the wrong way so uh he's obviously caught one of those edges what did we say earlier
24:02about how that track will catch you out if you're not careful well unwanted crash that from sasha kunan
24:08early in race one
24:14ferez enjoying his time at the head of the field but for how much longer looks like he caught an
24:19edge
24:19coming out of that turn as well the roar of the crowd though for the home rider
24:27would never have felt anything like this before part of the appeal in mxgp you get to ride at home
24:36at least one time during the year and if the fans come out and support you this is what it
24:42can do
24:45can't switch off though langenfelder is going to get the run around the outside here
24:51oh i tell you what he was brave wasn't he to keep it going because ferez just started to drift
24:56wide
24:57so
24:58langenfelder had to just back off because the door was slowly being closed in his face
25:04langenfelder knows that this is a perfect opportunity
25:08to try and capitalize on kunan's mistake who's still down there in ninth place but the championship
25:14battle is between these two ferez is your red plate holder as it stands right now he is on 80
25:19points
25:20langenfelder on 79 this is not a battle just for the race win it's for the championship lead going into
25:26race two
25:30and langenfelder knows that as well
25:41five laps complete less than a half a second as they hit the line at the end of lap five
25:46it stay calm breathe here's the message to ferez easier said than done
25:55when you've got tens of thousands of home fans
25:59baying all around this racetrack supporting you cheering you on
26:04and simon langenfelder the defending champion all over your rear end looking for a way through
26:13and these two have history already this year don't forget final turn argentina mid-race
26:19race two langenfelder bumped ferez off the track
26:28got memory like an elephant as ferez he never forgets
26:38anxious faces down there in pit lane from triumph
26:44and look at camden mcclellan looming in as well
26:49the gap less than three seconds is he going to get an opportunity to challenge for the win
26:54later on in the race we've still got 18 minutes plus two laps to go
26:58in this first mx2 race in andalusia
27:04look here just drifts and langenfelder just has to back off there
27:16the langenfelder just off the side of the track tiptoes back on
27:28the gap a massive seven tenths of a second a tenth more than it was a lap ago
27:36close the doors and keep your flow this time the message to ferez
27:43don't leave the door open because the number one will just
27:46blow it off its hinges if he gets an opportunity which he did in argentina don't forget
27:57getting out of that turn earlier than normal the old race line
28:01ran to the outside very very choppy but i tell you who's got to run on it's the number eight
28:06camden mcclellan all of a sudden what do they say two's company three's a crowd
28:11welcome to the party camden mcclellan
28:22a 1.45 3.02 for the south african that time around the other two ahead of him 47.09

28:35and camden mcclellan definitely fancies his chances at a win
28:39in this first race he's done the hard work didn't make the great start
28:46but he's plugged away
28:50tough circuit conditions
28:55sun rising temperatures rising
28:59the intensity levels of this race are through the roof as well for these three especially guillem
29:08perez
29:14seven laps in the books
29:17and he's got himself 1.6 seconds now over seymour langenfelder
29:22who's either made a couple of little mistakes or he's just
29:25trying to be calculated take a breather
29:28breathe and then come back later on in the race but he can't afford to take too much time
29:32to relax because camden mcclellan right there ready to pounce
29:38great atmosphere here once again
29:41in spain jorge prado used to be the guy providing the fans the entertainment
29:49but that baton switching to perez now massive weight on the young spaniard shoulders
30:04so
30:04rachel is only two seconds further back and forth he's not going anywhere
30:07the land all over the back of him in fifth ever six latter sasha kuden
30:11up to eighth now costly error and here comes camden mcclellan he's alongside seymour langenfelder
30:16he will hear the triumph there he has to back off again as we turn right mclellan up to second
30:22we've got a triumph one two
30:33you almost want mcclellan just to play wingman now for his teammate just so the spaniard can
30:39bring it home but when you look how tight the championship is there's no room for sentiment
30:44ferez on 18 langerfelder on 77 mcclellan on 74 that's the standings at the moment
30:56and it will close up even more if mcclellan finds his way into the lead
31:07we're into that nine
31:14great right this from janice raceless as well he's only less than six seconds off the lead
31:17in that fourth position obviously loves the sandier conditions can he sustain the pace though
31:25will his fitness let him to allow him to
31:30mcclellan two seconds behind his teammate langerfelder picking up the pace once again in third
31:39mcclellan dancing around on the rear wheel just needs
31:43back market to get out of the way
31:49xavier camps the friend uh the spaniard
31:53gap down to 1.2 all of a sudden
31:57ferez is going to need rear view mirrors
32:05lots of andrewden there staying out of the way she's just outside of the points in the moment in 21st
32:10wild carding this weekend
32:13here's sasha kunin still languishing in eight that would have been a massive
32:16dense of confidence with that four was leading let's take another look at the start shall we
32:23over on the right side the two triumphs sasha kunin janice raceless and langerfelder but it was sasha kunin with
32:31the foxhole shot his first of the season
32:40langerfelder getting a good jump there from about gate six just couldn't get across though
32:46that langerfelder being denied there by sasha kunin
32:56gap just over a second between the 99 and this number eight teammate
33:04absolute dreamness for triumph talk about airtime putting their brand in the shop window
33:11on one of the toughest racetracks that we've seen in mx2 outside of lommel in belgium
33:24ferez one of one two five european round at lommel years ago
33:32so nothing wrong with his sand riding skills we know camden mcclellan enjoys a little bit of the soft stuff
33:38as well
33:40and with these two riding together as training partners building each other on
33:46you can see how their intensity levels are at the moment
33:54langerfelder about two and a half seconds further back the land now up to fourth 1.6 behind the german
34:05this was mcclellan jumping along get in the distance and you see that momentum
34:11how it translates in the back wheel gets alongside commands that line they liked it down there in pit lane
34:29the land will end lap 10 in fourth place
34:38the gap one and a half seconds between ferez and mcclellan
34:43langenfeld a third valent two seconds further back and then rachelis so a lap of go valent found his way
34:50through
34:55but we've been focusing on this battle at the head of the field between the two triumph racing mx2 factory
35:04teammates
35:04we've got wave jellos here wheels on the ground rider down

35:39past simon langenfelder
35:42on lap eight we are now on lap 11
35:47wasn't able to get the distance on his teammate that time around but all of a sudden
35:51he is within touching distance and taking over the lead
35:55all the fitness levels with ten minutes nine minutes to go starting to come into play here
36:01or just the occasion itself for guillem ferez
36:07just starting to overwhelm him ever so slightly the fan support around the race track
36:13wah wicked kick there from the number eight
36:16even high high nearly at the eject button then
36:26gap goes from a couple of tenths back out to 1.5 seconds
36:31a warning there for camden mcclellan
36:34keep going push put it all on the line here

36:50kept a cool calm head
36:52slotted into the next available rut
