00:22Hello everybody, welcome back to Andalusia, round two of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
00:27This is the MXGP of Andalusia and we are in Almonte, right in the southwest corner of Spain.
00:34We're live, as always, for the latest stage of this World Championship.
00:40Jeffrey Herlings came away from Argentina, tied on points with his team-mate Tom Bial.
00:45Last time out, Romain Febvre just two points further back.
00:48And after the qualifying race on Saturday here in Spain, Tom Bial is back in red for today's races.
00:55He has a four-point advantage over Romain Febvre, Lucas Coonan three behind him.
01:00Jeffrey Herlings nine points behind.
01:02Herlings failed to score in the qualifying race again for the second round running on Saturday.
01:08He's going to come out firing on all cylinders and all fired up.
01:12We'll see the highlights of that qualifying race in a few moments' time.
01:15But what an atmosphere we have had every step of the way here in Andalusia in the second round of
01:21this FIM Motocross World Championship.
01:23EMX 250 providing fireworks.
01:25EMX 2, race one a moment ago.
01:29Can we get something similar here in MXGP race one?
01:32The racetrack, 1,700 meters long.
01:34We're at sea level.
01:35It's a gnarly old racetrack.
01:37You're going to hear from Calvin Vollandran in a minute.
01:39And he's going to fill us in on the full picture.
01:43But if you've been with us every step of the way, then you know how challenging this racetrack is.
01:48The temperature is creeping up as well.
01:50Warmer than it has been all weekend.
01:51Dryer than it has been all weekend.
01:53And it's just a bumpy old place.
01:56And it is going to be an absolute sufferfest.
01:59Maybe not so much in the first race, but the second race, if they leave it relatively unchanged, then, yeah,
02:05the riders will feel it later on.
02:08That's for sure.
02:09And no time to rest either.
02:10We go straight to Switzerland a week from now.
02:15Bit of grooming going on down there on the start straight.
02:20Ahead of this first MXGP race.
02:25Lucas Coonan on fire.
02:30Well, take a look behind the scenes at Red Bull Ducati racing.
02:35Andrea Bonacorsi not here this weekend, but we're going to follow him.
02:38He's going to be up in the next episode of Behind the Game.
02:53I think Andrea is still young, but only 22 years old.
02:59But he's making a lot of progress during the last few years.
03:02But he had a good winter.
03:05He worked really hard, trained a lot.
03:08Yeah, we are in 2026, Argentina.
03:12Back to Patagonia.
03:15This year we are in another place, Bariloche.
03:18And yeah, same team for you, but new bikes, new cars.
03:34So new adventure at the end, you know.
03:42A lot of changes, of course.
03:44I was used to Yama and Fantic for many years before.
03:47So now change for me, it's really amazing.
03:49And it's really a new start, you know.
03:52It's a fresh start.
03:53It's a new bike and new goals to chase.
03:55And yeah, I just can't wait to go behind the gate and give it my all.
04:00For sure.
04:01Yes, and I see that you have new kit, new color.
04:04Yes.
04:05Yeah, this weekend, of course.
04:06This bike looks awesome, so kit will be awesome too, you know.
04:09Red boots.
04:11Some cooler pinnester here.
04:14Some yellow in it, a little bit of orange as well.
04:17And then we've got plenty of stuff in the back to show you guys.
04:20I think you can show too.
04:21Yeah, sure.
04:24So for the overseas, it's not so much to show, actually.
04:28We have just the sand shell to ride.
04:30So first of all, this is a new helmet for this weekend.
04:34They make a really cool design, let's say.
04:37I love it.
04:38And here a little detail with my little dog Stella.
04:41Of course, always with me.
04:43And the star here to remember the name as well.
04:46So overall, the helmet, it's amazing.
04:49So hopefully a good star that it doesn't get roosted too much, you know.
04:52So it can stay new.
04:53And then?
04:54Yeah.
04:56Then we've got a jersey to complete the gear.
04:58Also nice.
05:00Big Red Bull logo, of course.
05:01Ducati.
05:02And yeah, all the sponsors.
05:04So I feel like we look clean and ready for the weekend for sure.
05:09Yeah, so good luck.
05:10Thanks a lot, guys.
05:12Okay.
05:13Cheer me on.
05:14And yeah, we have some fun this weekend.
05:16See you on the track.
05:16See you on the track.
05:40After all.
05:40They know now what to expect.
05:44They will know that the pace is high as well, after that first MX2 race.
05:51The circuit, the driest it's been so far this weekend.
05:55Probably the roughest it's been as well, because they didn't grade it overnight.
05:59and it's only had the jump faces fixed in between all the sessions they'll
06:04obviously do some work down here into turn two as well because of the the
06:07braking zone it's high speed down there but relatively speaking this circuit
06:11will remain unchanged Lisa Layla was down on the grid a few moments ago she
06:15caught up with and great to see him back here third store triumphs Ben Watson and
06:19Calvin Volandran Red Bull Ducati Factory Racing let's hear what he has to say
06:23ahead of race one okay we're almost ready for the first MXGP race of the day but
06:30I'd like to catch up with Red Bull Ducati factory rider Calvin Blondran because
06:33we haven't caught up with him yet this year Calvin you're with Yamaha for six
06:37years you've changed to Ducati how was your winter how's the new bike how's
06:42everything going your end it's been going well obviously changing bikes changing
06:46teams is never easy for a rider you know like myself who's been with the brand for
06:52so many years to change a new brand this is tough took a couple of weeks to get
06:57used to the new bike thankfully everything's gone pretty well and
07:00smoothly of course we've had some some some struggles along the way that we that
07:05we working through and but already now to be competitive inside the top five is
07:10is good for us and you know we keep keep improving and hopefully we can have a
07:17good day today two solid starts and two good races this is the goal so I'm
07:21excited and yesterday you were p5 you're looking really good you're looking
07:25strong confident how is the racetrack changed today and how would it make a
07:28difference to your race I think the racetrack is pretty similar to yesterday
07:32they haven't done much overnight work on the track and it's soft it's deep it's
07:37rough so it should be a good day of racing will be physically tough to 35
07:43minute motos I think we'll all be suffering out there but it's it's part
07:47of the sport and you know I love to suffer physically so I'm excited that's
07:52weird best of luck
07:57Ben Watson from dirt store triumph racing Ben new team new colors new bike a lot
08:03going on with you how's everything going yeah big changes this winter new team
08:08obviously moving to triumph change base from Belgium where I've been since end of
08:132017 back to the UK so a lot of new tracks a lot of big changes but I don't
08:19know I just felt like it was the right time in my career to to make that change
08:22and try and bring the the enjoyment side of it back which yeah I started to miss a
08:26little bit at the end of last season so yeah some good changes I think showing
08:29them a ride as well I mean is it fair to say you have had a tough couple of years
08:33but yesterday things seemed to click it was a solid ride for you inside the top 10
08:36yeah definitely I completely screwed my start up and then I was pretty much
08:41lasting to the first corner had to avoid Jeffrey's crash and then yeah I had a
08:45really good first lap which is something that I've struggled with a
08:47little bit in the past and then yeah I don't know I just put on a solid race and
08:51I came through ninth which yeah in this field at the moment is something I can be
08:55proud of and especially from a you know a little private triumph group I think
09:00we've we've done a good job over the winter and we've all worked hard and yes
09:03paying off so ultimately what's the goal for this year it's really hard to say when I
09:09went you know made the change back back home it's it was a thing to try and find
09:14you know some checkered flags and get some wins again under my belt and just
09:17get that feeling back obviously I'm not coming here at the moment to take wins
09:21or podiums but I don't know I still really believe in my riding and what I
09:26can do on a bike so I think I need to just build step by step and yeah with this
09:30with this new change and new bike I think as the weeks go on we'll see how I'm
09:34getting on and yeah at the moment I'm very happy with top 10. Have a good race
09:39thank you Ben Watson there okay good luck to the guys here on the grid it's time
09:42for MXGP race one fans back in their seats getting ready for the action ahead let's take
09:53a look at what happened in the qualifying race shall we this was yesterday right
10:00Jeffy Hurlings gate number one Kunin alongside him Hurlings got pinched a
10:05little bit on the exit of the term but what we thought was like a sinkhole or
10:08something like that you'll see Jeffy Hurlings from another angle hopefully coming
10:13into that first turn and he had a massive crash this was Guadagnini running out of
10:18real estate Hurlings went in caught the bank he went down hard
10:28Kaida Wolf went with him Fernandez made his own mistake there and Lucas Kunin
10:34led pretty much from turn three after Tom Biao grabbed the whole shot
10:44Lucas Kunin had a moment whilst leading but he was able to stay on two wheels Romain
10:50Fevre found his way up the inside of Calvin Ballander and that was for fourth on lap
10:55five Adamo got the better of Tim Geiser as he moved into seventh and eventually
11:01claimed six on the final lap with the move on Guadagnini but up front Lucas Kunin was
11:08just doing what he wanted to do he was very smooth very calm very calculated Tom
11:14Biao was in second Maxime Renault third Romain Fevre fourth the three French riders at
11:18the end of the race separated well you could have thrown a blanket over them
11:22basically but no one a match really for Lucas Kunin even in slow even in normal
11:27speed he looked like he was riding in slow motion such was the confidence of the
11:32young Belgian definitely coming up this weekend in Spain looking to impress Maxime
11:42Renault third for the Montrenais Yamaha rider he you know what put it at a good
11:47performance kept Romain Fevre behind him for the best part of 10-12 laps and won
11:53that little battle there but it was Tom Biao who won the battle of the French
11:56Lucas Kunin won the qualifying race for the first time this year Biao second Renault
12:00third February fourth Volana and fifth
12:08and Hurlings only made it to 11th Kaida Wolf was 12th those two picked themselves up off the deck in
12:19turn one so Geoffrey Hurlings in he's one of four GPs in Spain two in MX2 two in MXGP
12:25Tim Geister a two-time winner so too Kaida Wolf Lucas Kunin Maxime Renault Tom Biao Romain Fevre has one
12:33Pauls Jonas also has one in MX2 but the riders down there making their way to the line let's take
12:44a look at
12:44how they line up shall we based on where they finished in the qualifying race on
12:48Saturday it will be Lucas Kunin who lines up on pole for the first time this year
12:54from Tom Biao Maxime Renault Romain Fevre Calvin Vallandran Adamo Guadagnini and Geiser
13:11so Tim Geiser will go to the line in eighth place Ben Watson nine Albi Ferrato 10 Jeffrey Hurlings in
13:1711th but we do have a new championship leader and that is going to be Tom Biao 59 points he
13:22has Romain Fevre on 55 Lucas Kunin on 52 Hurlings on 50 then we've got Maxime Renault 40
13:28Geiser 39 and then we've got Adamo Fernandez Volana and Jonas in 10th place
13:38Lucas Kunin Red Bull KTM Factory Racing absolutely dominated the qualifying race on Saturday if he's in the same kind
13:45of mood today on race day no one's going to see which way he goes
13:50Tom Biao championship leaders red plate once again for the second time this year remember he won the qualifying race
13:55on Saturday in Argentina
13:57lined up with the red plate for the races on Sunday lost it to his teammate Jeffrey Hurlings who has
14:02given it back to the Frenchman this weekend after the qualifying race
14:07Romain Fevre is third in the championship still in fact Romain Fevre second in the championship four points behind Tom
14:15Biao so we've got a French one-two at the top
14:17Lucas Kunin has moved to third just three behind Romain Fevre and then we've got Jeffrey Hurlings last couple of
14:25riders making their way to the gate we're going to
14:26get a green flag at the back there any moment now green down at the bottom end here with our
14:30FIM race director 30 minutes plus two laps about to get underway here the MXGP of
14:36Andalusia in Almonte the fly racing 15 second board up Kunin gate one Fevre gate two will there be similar
14:48shenanigans into the first turn between these two at the start of this race
14:57heads down gates drop oh they hold them a long time wow very long time you saw how many itchy
15:07trigger fingers and sneaky movements
15:11oh Hurlings up the side of the track gets on as quickly as possible but it's Vial who looked like
15:16he grabbed the foxhole shot
15:21when all was said and done
15:25doubles his way into turn four Kunin right there behind him Hurlings recovers well for third
15:35fourth is Adamo great start for the young Italian Fevre in fifth Renault Siggs Fevre will be pleased and is
15:41cleared that particular Frenchman at least
15:43Guadagnini 7th Ferratto Horkmo Geisser in 10th Ben Watson in 11th place and we've got Oliver Jonas Lopes Enzo Lopes
15:50Kaida Wolf in 15th Van Donenck Groutman Adam Steri Ashwell Panza Siwa in 21st Fernandes the home rider in 25th
15:59place
16:00ahead of Iago Keerts tell you what Lucas Kunin was tramming through there wasn't he looked like he got a
16:05bit of a switch a bit of a swap on early on in that wave section
16:11Tom Vial said the track was difficult yesterday
16:14alluded to the fact although he didn't say as much maybe they'll have a discussion and see what they can
16:19change ahead of today whether that suspension or something else
16:22so far it's looking good it's got him and his teammate both out of the gate up front which is
16:28half the battle in MXGP these days
16:42working our way towards the end of this unofficial first lap remember finish line to finish line to record a
16:46lap a lap time and a lap that counts Tom Vial leads the way though
16:52Lucas Kunin in white holding a nice tight line through turn one ducks to avoid the roost Hurling's there in
17:00third about another second further back
17:04Fevre in fourth number one the defending champion Kawasaki Racing Team he's exactly where he needs to be because
17:14sometimes it's easier to follow than it is to lead
17:17and Roman Fevre
17:20well he's got three very capable riders ahead of him
17:24that'll drag him along onto their rear wheels and pretty soon we'll have a four-way battle
17:29for that lead position
17:32Kunin dancing around at will at the moment isn't he loving this but so too is Hurling who's got himself
17:37onto the rear wheel
17:40of the number five he goes to the inside here
17:42oh I tell you what Tom Vial's getting well and truly duffed up he doesn't know whether to look left
17:47or right
17:47he goes to the left
17:49Kunin stays on the right he takes over the lead
17:51Hurling tries to go past his teammate as well
17:55can't quite get the job done not yet anyway
17:58but we've got a new leader and it's Kunin
18:03Vial making his teammate go the long way round no team orders here not yet
18:14Kunin looks to put a spicy lap in here as well because we know when he gets the front he
18:19can pull two three seconds on anybody
18:22and gap them
18:23loss of front end there for the 16 Vial
18:26keeps it upright though
18:32Kunin leads after that first official lap
18:34Vial second Hurling's third Fevre fourth
18:38Fernandes in 18th he crashed into turn two into that corner there at the start
18:47so he's got a lot of work to do he hasn't been feeling well coming into this weekend either the
18:51Spaniard watch this here
18:52Tom Vial talk about shell shot he's like okay I'll sit here I'll defend there looks left he sees Hurling
18:58looks right he sees the orange fender of Kunin
19:03Hurling switches to the outside as Kunin takes over the lead
19:08there was no way through though for the 84 even if he did try to get out of here early
19:16Kunin with about a second 1.6 seconds over Tom Vial
19:21again doing just enough to stay ahead of his teammate at the moment
19:27Honda HRC Petronas
19:30very distinct and you see Hurling's getting good drive through this wave section can't jump long there though
19:36doesn't know if Vial was going to go left or right at the top of the hill
19:42going to try this outside line again
19:44didn't happen for him last time
19:46he's got a bike length on Vial this time around this time it pays off
19:50Hurling's up to second
19:57right the last time we saw these two riders Kunin and Hurling's go and do battle in the sand was
20:03Arnhem
20:04Hurling's won the race but Kunin came from a long way back and almost snatched the victory from the Dutchman
20:10oh we're going to see a role reversal here is normal business resumed
20:14with the self-professed king of sand
20:18well he is he's only got 16 Grand Prix victories in the home soil
20:2241 Grand Prix victories in sand GPs as well
20:26over the years
20:3043 if you count Sira Shah in Thailand as a sand race
20:37two victories there in MX2
20:44he set the fastest lap that time around
20:451.42.7
20:46Kunin was a 43.2
20:50it was his own mistake that saw him crash going into the first turn
20:54in the qualifying race yesterday he said
20:58from the angle that we saw initially it looked like he just folded the front
21:01maybe too much front brake or got a soft patch
21:04because it was a wicked
21:07twist that sent him out the side door and then
21:10kind of wolf
21:12couldn't avoid him
21:13he slammed into him
21:16but later on turns out it was his mistake
21:17got too close to the bank, caught the bank
21:21and ejected himself out the side door
21:23as a result of it
21:25and he's closing in on Kunin while doing his best
21:27the gap 1.8 in the last split
21:29over at Liquid Molly
21:32Bial
21:32nearly three seconds further back
21:35the gap going out to two seconds
21:36so Kunin making hurlings work for this one
21:38at the moment
21:392.025
21:49Bial still there in third
21:51Fevre
21:541.1 seconds further back
21:56in fourth
21:57six seconds further back
21:59anyway as we move into lap four
22:02Lisa Leyland is down in pit lane
22:04she is with Honda HRC
22:06let's go down to Lisa now
22:09and hear what they have to say
22:12Roger Harvey
22:13Team HRC
22:14they have got two riders inside the top three
22:17what feedback did Hurlings and Bial give you after the qualifying race yesterday
22:21because whatever is happening something is going right for them
22:24Geoffrey gave a fair bit of feedback obviously after the slip in the first corner
22:30Tom really happy
22:32Geoffrey just said like mistake in the first corner
22:35we'll correct that today
22:37which looks like they both have done so
22:39well Geoffrey has
22:41Tom normally a good starter
22:43so pretty happy you know the way it's going
22:46both very happy with the bikes
22:48unfortunately other rider in this class
22:50Ruben Fernandes
22:52he's suffering a bit with
22:54stomach upset and everything
22:56really he's got no power and it's a shame for him in the Spanish Grand Prix
23:00and just quickly is Geoffrey okay after his crash yesterday
23:03I saw him all taped up last night
23:05yeah he got a bit of a stiff neck
23:06but like it basically a bit of whiplash
23:08but like I would imagine he's not feeling too much at the moment
23:12I bet he's got other things to think of I suppose
23:15best of luck to the team thanks for chatting to us Roger
23:19a massive moment through the waves during that interview
23:23Geoffrey Hurlings having a bit of a twitch
23:27and that gap is going out four seconds now between him and the race leader Kunan
23:31as that interview was happening I was looking at the splits it went 1.8 2 point something 3 point
23:36something
23:36it was like wow Kunan is on it
23:39purple sectors sector 1 and 2 at the end of lap 4
23:44gap 4.4 seconds
23:45his lap time fastest of the race a 1.41 4.11
23:50Hurlings 43.620 VL 43.580
23:57Adamo is next he's in the 45 then we've got Renault, Geiser, DeWolf up to 8th
24:01Guadagnini and Ben Watson in the top 10 for Dirt Store Triumph
24:10so there's a lot of work to do here then
24:12if anybody is to stop Lucas Kunan
24:14but the way he rode yesterday he was a man on a mission
24:17he was Mr. Cool, Johnny Cool
24:30Battle heating up for third
24:32two Frenchmen yesterday
24:35Romain Fevre
24:36had to eat a face full of roost
24:39for the best part of 10 laps
24:41when he was chasing down Maxime Renault on the Monster Energy Yamaha
24:44this time he's having to chase down the other Frenchmen
24:47the championship leader Tom VL
24:50Honda HRC Petronas
25:00let's count up from 8th
25:02Kai DeWolf, World Champion MX2
25:04Tim Geiser, 7th, 5 titles
25:06Renault, MX2 World Champion
25:08Adamo, MX2 World Champion
25:10Fevre 2 World Championships
25:12VL, 2 MX2 titles
25:14Hurling's 5, your race leader
25:16yet to win one
25:17Lucas Kunan
25:18and he's 7 seconds clear
25:20at the 5 time champ
25:31pace just starting to steady ever so slightly
25:35Lucas Kunan from a 1.41.4
25:38backs it down to a 1.42.6
25:41but 1.45
25:434 for the man chasing him down at the moment
25:46that gap going out to 7 seconds
25:53Fevre had to work hard yesterday as well
25:55started just inside the top 10
25:57he's having to work hard in race 1 as well
26:00and he's worked hard to close down the gap between himself
26:03and Tom VL
26:05found some speed from somewhere
26:09there
26:10had to keep the back brake on there as he came into that turn
26:12just to stop the shot reacting
26:14and bouncing back up
26:16that's why he saw that scuff of dirt
26:17in the braking zone
26:30looks silky smooth through the waves though doesn't he?
26:35Hurling's just ahead of him
26:38what's the gap between the two Hondas? 3.2 seconds
26:42then Fevre here
26:43then we've got Adamo
26:456.5 seconds further back
26:46on the Red Bull KTM
26:48Renault nearly 2 seconds behind him in 6th place
26:50head of his Monster Energy team mate Tim Geiser
26:53and then Kai DeWolf
26:55Nastana Svaner
26:55first race back

28:00Vandonek up to 12
28:01Adam Steri
28:02Chambers
28:03KTM up to 13
28:04found his way past the Gabriel SS 24
28:07KTM of Oria Oliver
28:08home rider this weekend
28:09Fernandes
28:10less
28:11well about 6 tenths behind him

28:32as he tries to
28:33find his way past
28:35the Honda
28:36of Tom Bial
28:39we know how capable
28:40that motorcycle is
28:43these battery bikes now
28:44so
28:47special
28:48so quick
28:51Adamo
28:52here
28:53side by side with Maxime Renault
28:55looking to find a way through
28:57hard on the brakes
28:59forces his way down
29:00the inside of Adamo
29:01and he
29:02does to Adamo
29:03what the Italian did to Gaisa
29:04in the same corner
29:05in qualifying
29:07Renault
29:08now fifth
29:17Gaisa there just behind him
29:19about another two seconds further back
29:21give or take
29:22Adamo
29:24Gaisa
29:27well what an impressive performance this is
29:29from Lucas Kunen
29:32look how gnarly this racetrack is
29:34as well
29:36high speed choppy edgy
29:38deep and lowly in places
29:44Maxime Renault saying he was rock hard yesterday
29:46when he had to deal with the pressure
29:48from Roman Fevre
29:49in his post-race interview
29:51in his post-race interview
29:54not a chewy mint kind of guy
29:57not a chewy mint kind of guy
30:16a lot of people
30:17a lot of people
30:18raised eyebrows
30:18and asked a lot of questions
30:19why though
30:20could stay down
30:21win a mix too
30:22but he's made the decision
30:24so far
30:25450 looks like it suits him
30:26and it suits his style
30:32he's got a lot of people
30:32sitting there in sixth place
30:33at the moment
30:37just keeping an eye on the gap
30:38at the head of the field
30:39again Kunen
30:40stretching it to almost 10 seconds
30:42at the moment
30:48a lot of people saying
30:49a lot of people saying
30:49this would be the test wouldn't it
30:50you know
30:50in terms of
30:52hurling switching teams
30:53from KTM
30:54where he's so dominant
30:55in all the sand races
30:56that he ever
30:57raced
30:59switch brand
31:00everybody then goes up
31:01and wait till we get to the sand race
31:02see what he can do there
31:03there there there there there
31:04Kunen
31:05making him work for it
31:06a moment
31:079.6 seconds
31:08oh it's just come down
31:08two tenths
31:099.8 to 9.6
31:11just because of their sector one time
31:1225.7
31:13new race leader
31:1425.5
31:16the number 84
31:17Geisse getting closer
31:18to Adamo
31:19looking to
31:21seek revenge
31:22for that pass
31:25in the qualifying race
31:26that left Geisse
31:27down in eighth place
31:28Davide Di Kali
31:30Red Bull KTM
31:31factory racing
31:31is down in
31:33pit lane
31:34getting ready
31:36to talk
31:37and obviously
31:37Lucas Kunen
31:38his main rider
31:39who leads the race
31:40he's down there
31:41in pit lane
31:42with Lisa Leyland
31:43let's hear
31:44what
31:45Davide Di Kali
31:46has to say
31:47about
31:49Lucas Kunen
31:52Davide Di Kali
31:53is it fair to say
31:54that the last round
31:55in Argentina
31:56Lucas didn't really seem
31:57like himself
31:58but it's great to see him
31:59back up at the sharp end
32:00where he belongs
32:01what's been the difference
32:02and how is he feeling
32:03yeah exactly
32:04in Argentina
32:05was not the best one
32:07he got some problem
32:08in the eye
32:08during the moto
32:09with the dust
32:10but here
32:12looks like we are
32:13putting the things
32:14in the right place
32:15like before
32:15and yeah
32:17he got a
32:18he got a really good start
32:20actually surprised me
32:21because when they show
32:22the five seconds
32:23looks like he lost
32:24a little bit the balance
32:25but then he was able
32:26to make a good start
32:27and yeah
32:29so far so good
32:30he built a solid gap
32:31about nine seconds
32:32between him and Jeffrey
32:34behind we know
32:35that we have one
32:36really experienced guy
32:37that can ride in the sand
32:39but we can ride as well
32:40really good on the sand
32:41so
32:42so far so good
32:43so I hope he will stay
32:44like this
32:45and we keep on going
32:46best luck to the team
32:47thanks Davide
32:49yeah Lucas Kunen
32:50leading now
32:5110.3 seconds
32:53of course they know
32:54the history of the man
32:55behind them
32:56but
32:57we also know
32:58Lucas Kunen
32:59no slouch when it comes
33:00to the sand either
33:02Tim Geiser
33:04getting into his groove here
33:05into his stride
33:06as he closes in
33:07on the Italian
33:08ahead of him
33:08this will be 4-6 position
33:12different line
33:12coming out of that
33:13split section
33:16takes the
33:16the long sweep
33:18up towards the jump
33:19Adamo takes a look
33:20over his shoulder
33:21he looks and jumps right
33:22Geiser
33:23jumps across the left
33:24he's found a new line
33:25down here
33:27takes a wider sweep
33:28in
33:29nice good run
33:30through that turn
33:31for the 2.43
33:31and behind them
33:32Kai DeWolf
33:33Nastan Hasvana
33:34great to see him back
33:35of course
33:36didn't want that first turn
33:37carnage
33:37in the qualifying race
33:39yesterday
33:39spoke to him this morning
33:40he said
33:41yeah feel okay
33:42but he said
33:43lucky not to get
33:44even more hurt
33:45than he
33:46you know
33:46than he could have been
33:47if you like
33:49but he said
33:49him and Geoffrey
33:50were carrying a really good pace
33:52coming through the field
33:53said he ended up letting
33:55Geoffrey by
33:55in the end
33:56just because he
33:57you know
33:57couldn't keep him back
33:58he wanted to actually let him by
34:00just to give him a toe
34:01he said but at some point
34:02Geoffrey didn't take him up on the offer
34:08but then he also saw that
34:09the gap
34:10back to sort of
34:1110th or 11th
34:12you know
34:12where Ferrato was
34:14was just so big
34:15he was never going to make that anyway
34:16so he just decided
34:17to save some energy for today
34:18Kai DeWolf
34:21these guys have
34:22had a couple extra races
34:23than him
34:24you know
34:24some have done a couple more extra
34:25pre-season races
34:26then they all did the intensity
34:28of Argentina
34:29a couple of weeks ago
34:30they kind of know
34:31semi know their place
34:33Kai DeWolf
34:34still trying to figure that out
34:35with this being his first ride
34:37in MXGP
34:38coming in to land now
34:39on that Monster Energy
34:40finish line jump
34:40number 74
34:42looks like his
34:44that's just the
34:45sideboard
34:47where he's gripping the
34:48side panels
34:49so much
34:50just pulling the graphics
34:51off that side of that motorcycle
34:52maybe he might have had a scuff
34:53with somebody else
34:54who knows
34:59here comes Geiser
35:00having another look
35:01at Adamo
35:01this time he tried to switch up
35:03the inside
35:04of the Italian
35:08Geiser looks across
35:09doesn't know
35:09yet how to deal
35:11with Adamo
35:11not a rider he's used to racing
35:16couple of mistakes
35:17in quick succession though
35:18for the five time champ
35:19Tim Geiser
35:25talked about
35:26the changing of the guard
35:27in Argentina
35:28didn't we when Tom Vial
35:29went out and won
35:29the qualifying race
35:31on Saturday
35:31from Lucas Coonan
35:35normal
35:35order was resumed
35:37when the old guard
35:39went 1-2-3
35:40in the second race
35:42with Hurlings
35:43Fevre
35:44and Geiser
35:45but look what we've got here
35:46Lucas Coonan
35:48leading the way
35:51in the sand
35:53by almost 13 seconds
35:58and doing what he did
35:59in the qualifying race
36:00just dancing around
36:02picking his own lines
36:03doesn't look hurried
36:05it's going to be a
36:06Coonan mistake
36:07that decides this one
36:09because
36:10at the moment
36:11he has not put a wheel wrong
36:12and looks very very comfortable
36:16on this tough
36:17sandy circuit
36:18here in southwest Spain
36:23don't even think
36:23he's taking a look
36:24over his shoulder has he
36:26there's Volandran
36:26he went down in that
36:27first turn
36:28Malay
36:30circulating just to try
36:31and pick up a point
36:32if he can
36:33he's in 21st at the moment
36:35the Red Bull Ducati rider
36:38no Andrea Bonacorsi
36:42he's injured
36:44after his crash
36:45in Argentina
36:46and Jeremy Siwa
36:47is in 16th place
36:49for the Italian
36:50brand
37:03yeah eight minutes to go
37:06this one pretty much done
37:07and dusted
37:10Lucas Coonan turning it into
37:11boar fest
37:14such is his lead
37:15over Jeffrey Herlings here
37:1614
37:1615.9 seconds now
37:18so you can only assume
37:19then that he's just decided
37:20you know what
37:22we'll park this one here
37:23didn't have anything for him
37:24in race one
37:26might need to go make some changes
37:27ahead of race two
37:29who knows
37:32either way
37:34a rare
37:35lesson in the sand
37:38for the Dutchman
37:44he's got eight seconds over
37:46Roman Fevre
37:46who has found his way past
37:48Tom Vial by the way
37:55Vial another six and a half seconds
37:56further back
37:57then we've got Renaud Adamo Geisse
37:58the dwarf
37:59Ben Watson ninth
38:01what a great ride that is
38:02for Ben Watson
38:10Ben Watson
38:11Ben Watson over the line now
38:21in ninth
38:21oh here he is
38:22first turn
38:23so Ben Watson
38:24Dirt Store Triumph
38:26got his best
38:27ever qualifying
38:28in MXGP
38:29in Spain
38:30yesterday
38:31with a ninth
38:33and he's currently
38:34in ninth
38:34now in the race
38:36wasn't his best
38:37ever qualifying
38:38at all though
38:38like he got a seventh
38:40prior to that
38:41but just in terms
38:43of Spanish rounds
38:45clearly liking the circuit
38:46conditions
38:47obviously heard him
38:48in the pre-grid interview
38:49saying that he was
38:50enjoying his
38:51move back to the UK
38:52British based team
38:54Dirt Store Triumph
38:55riding British championship
38:57wants to see the
38:57chequered flag a little bit
38:58more which he's doing
38:59now
39:00winning races
39:02wants to build up
39:03once again to kind of
39:04get to where he was
39:05a couple years ago
39:05a few years ago now
39:07in MX2
39:08just wanted to get back
39:09some of the enjoyment
39:10in the riding
39:11that's exactly where he's
39:12at right now
39:13so great to see
39:14B-Dub
39:17looking back towards
39:18his normal self here
39:22he's got DeWolf just
39:23ahead of him
39:24DeWolf now
39:25understandably
39:25maybe feeling a little bit
39:27second hand after the crash
39:28also just a little bit of
39:29ring rustiness
39:30having not competed in
39:31Argentina in the last few
39:32weeks
39:34but Ben Watson
39:35getting ready to pick him
39:36off for eighth place
39:38in the next five and a half
39:40minutes plus two laps
39:40if you can
39:44nice little battle this
39:45DeWolf not able to get
39:47over the triple
39:47Watson does
39:48he'll sneak down the inside
39:49here
39:50three corners from the line
39:51yeah you see the body
39:52language there from DeWolf
39:54so Watson now up into eighth
40:01he'll be pumped with that
40:02won't he?
40:03especially as he said
40:04in the pre-grid
40:05in this kind of company
40:07which is
40:08everybody says
40:09is a stacked class
40:10in 2026
40:18next man
40:19in the background there
40:21Mattia Guaranini
40:25last time Ben Watson
40:26was in eighth
40:27was in Latvia race
40:28one last year
40:29round 11
40:30went 8.10 that day
40:38got him eighth overall
40:47good start to his Sunday
40:50program though
40:51for Ben Watson
40:58Kai DeWolf now just going
40:59through the motions
41:00just trying to ride this
41:01one out
41:01if he can remember
41:02thumb ligament injury
41:05thumb ligament injury
41:07on his left hand
41:08needed surgery
41:12it's healed quicker than expected
41:14I dare say he's not a hundred percent
41:16but
41:19feels that it's okay to ride
41:20maybe not do any more damage
41:21and you've got to start somewhere
41:24here's your race leader
41:2516 seconds clear
41:28Lucas Kunin
41:28Red Bull KTM
41:32factory racing
41:42he has been
41:43absolutely
41:44unstoppable
41:45so far
41:47in the qualifying race
41:48and now here
41:49on Sunday
41:50when it matters
41:5337 career race wins
41:54at the moment
41:55looking to make it 38
42:02guys are still not able to do anything about
42:05Andrea Adamo though
42:09these two tied together
42:10with a piece of string
42:11last couple of days
42:12Geiser doubles his way in
42:14not able to find his way through
42:15though
42:16again goes a long way around
42:17he will
42:19try and hold it
42:20to the middle
42:21wow
42:21tell you what
42:22Adamo got spooked there
42:23even on the landing
42:25and Geiser
42:25needed to have a look as well
42:27to check up
42:27he was committed
42:28no matter what
42:29Geiser up to six
42:46seven and a half seconds behind his teammate
42:48Maxime Renaud now
42:52Adamo and Watson only separated by three seconds
42:55and there is Watson
42:56Watson going for Adamo here
42:59great second half of the race
43:00great whole race
43:01for Ben Watson
43:02but a great second half
43:03nothing wrong with his fitness levels
43:06of course
43:06the more established riders
43:09in the class
43:10and we forget that
43:11Watson has been a Grand Prix runner
43:13for the last
43:15what a few years
43:16and he was full time in MXGP last year
43:18but this year he's only
43:19doing the European based rounds
43:22and of course
43:22unless
43:23you know things go so well
43:25that
43:26maybe there's a way
43:27to get him to
43:27some of the flyways
43:28later on at the end of the year
43:30but
43:30at the moment
43:31putting himself in the shop window
43:32and holding himself
43:34very very accountable
43:35Ben Watson
43:39minute and a half to go
43:40plus two laps
43:42guys up to six
43:43Adamo down to seven
43:44Watson just 2.6 seconds
43:46behind the Italian
43:47former MX2 world champ
43:56Wardenini
44:12here's Maximinot
44:16He's still in fifth, 3.8 seconds behind this rider here, Tom Vial.
44:32Doesn't look like...
44:36That's two seconds now.
44:39Is there going to be a cheeky pass towards the end of the race for Vial?
44:43Put the flag out now, Lucas Kunin.
44:45Tom Vial, 77 points tied at the top of the championship.
44:49Romain Fevre on 75, Hurlings on 72.
44:54That's your first four positions separated by five points.
44:59If you put the flag out now, that will change if Renault finds his way past Tom Vial.
45:07The rider ahead of him in red, Ronda HRC, Petronas.
45:14Three laps to go.
45:22Calvin Valandran's persistence paying off.
45:26He's in the points at the moment, even if he's possibly riding with a little bit of damage to that
45:33motorcycle after that crash in turn one.
45:37Every point counts.
45:41As Vial comes under attack now from Renault.
45:49Two MX2 world champions here in their careers.
45:54Tom, a two-time MX2 champ.
45:58Maxime Renault won before moving into the class.
46:01Chose not to defend.
46:02Moving into MXGP.
46:05Nice little cut back through there.
46:06He's going to get alongside Vial.
46:08He's going to have to dive down the inside here.
46:11And he does that beautiful move.
46:13But Vial may be just starting to fade here in the latter stages of this race.
46:16Renault now up in the fourth.
46:31That's as good as it's going to get, unless there's a mistake from either of the top three.
46:37Because Renault, what, 19, 18 and a half seconds behind Romain Favre?
46:42Fernandes, gutsy ride through the field to 12th at the moment.
46:46Seven and a half seconds behind Brent van Donenig.
46:51After he got involved in that first-turn scuffle.
47:00Maxime Renault out of the final turn.
47:03Takes the two-lap board.
47:10Hard draft this first race.
47:12The only one making it look easy is your race leader, Lucas Coombe.
47:15Lucas Coonan, who has a 16.2-second lead over Jeffrey Hurlings at the moment.
47:22And he's already well around this lap.
47:2647 seconds clear of Vial in fifth place, Lucas Coonan.
47:33That tells you something, doesn't it?
47:37That's how dominant Lucas Coonan has been.
47:42Not just in the qualifying race, but also here in this first race.
47:49And to give you an idea what 40, let's say, Renault, 46 seconds, Vial, 49 seconds behind the leader, looks
47:57like.
47:58This is Lucas Coonan coming into the final corner to take the one-lap board.
48:06Impressive display of riding this from the number five, who will take over the championship lead after this race by
48:13two points over Tom Vial.
48:15After Renault van der Zwei passed the red plate holder coming into this race.
48:21Bit of a moment there, bit of loss of balance, but surfed his way out of it, no problem.
48:26Sometimes things go for you, sometimes they don't.
48:28That one just did.
48:40Hasn't led a championship in MX2.
48:44In fact, he won a qualifying race a couple of years ago in Argentina.
48:48And then had the red plate and then fell from race one.
48:53So he led it briefly.
48:57But that was the opening round.
49:00This is round two.
49:01More points on the board.
49:09And he's just ridden like this the whole race.
49:14Doubling holes, tripling holes, just wheeling over bumps.
49:19Just look very smooth and effortless.
49:26Immaculate for the Belgian.
49:30Who's just in cruise mode on this final lap.
49:34Three corners to go.
49:43And it looks like it's been a fun race for him, because he's not just one.
49:48He's absolutely dominated.
49:50He'll take the 25 points.
49:53And he'll take the championship lead.
49:55Lucas Kunen wins race one here in Andalusia.
50:0138 race wins now for the Belgian.
50:13He was able to back it right off.
50:16Hurling's crossed the line now in second place.
50:1920.5 seconds behind the Belgian.
50:25And when you see a rider kind of put in that kind of performance, we'll go behind and do an
50:32interview at a moment.
50:33Probably looks like he's barely broken a sweat.
50:37Barely out of breath.
50:38It's just one of those races that's massively clicked for Kunen.
50:42But he made it look so, so easy.
50:44Morgmo up to 15th.
50:46On the final lap.
50:47Finds his way past Siwa.
50:57And Vellanerun still going.
50:59He'll pick up 18th head of Adam Sterry and Jose Boutron.
51:03Watson over the line.
51:05Wasn't able to do anything about Adamo.
51:07He'll cross the line in eighth.
51:08Guadalini and I.
51:09And Kai DeWolf, we wait for him to come through.
51:13In tenth, just there.
51:17And then Vandonek, 11th.
51:20Fernandez, 12th.
51:21Ferrato and Kietz.
51:28Let's go down to Lisa.
51:30She is with our race winner and new championship leader, Lucas Kunen.
51:38Lucas Kunen, congratulations.
51:40That's two out of two wins so far this weekend.
51:42You're in a total league of your own.
51:44How were you feeling out there at the sharp end?
51:46I mean, feeling good.
51:48I mean, at the start I lost balance and I put my two feet down.
51:51I was like locked in and I just got a good jump.
51:53And I got second behind Tom.
51:56So then I passed him and just controlled.
51:58I saw 84 plus one.
51:59So I was like, ah, it's going to be tough.
52:02So I was a bit waiting and a bit looking.
52:04And then somehow I got a gap and just controlled from there.
52:07And yeah, it was good.
52:08It's nice to take the championship lead as well.
52:10I mean, not thinking about that.
52:12Yeah, I'm just easy trying to focus on myself and try to get better.
52:15So yeah, second mode is going to be tough.
52:17Track's really bumpy, but that's how we love it.
52:19Love it, sorry.
52:20So yeah, looking forward.
52:21Good luck for the second race.
52:26Not thinking about the championship, of course not.
52:29But it is only round two.
52:31Lucas Kunin, masterful in his dominance of MXGP race one here in Andalusia.
52:40Saw the pit board, 84 minus one.
52:43And then before he knew it, he found himself 20.5 seconds clear by the time the checkered flag fell.
52:50Lucas Kunin, your winner in race one.
53:04Take a look at the highlights.
53:06Take a look at the highlights.
53:20Jeffy Hurlings briefly went off track there.
53:22And then there was carnage in the background that took out a handful of riders, including the home favourite, Ruben
53:28Fernandes.
53:29Iago Keats was in there.
53:30Siwa was in there.
53:32Vellandrum went down.
53:33But at the head of the field, Tom Vell led.
53:35And as Hurlings closed in, Kunin went to the right, Hurlings to the left, Tom Vell under attack.
53:42But it was Kunin who made the most of that situation.
53:44He took over the lead.
53:46Hurlings, a few laps later, would eventually find his way past his team-mate.
53:51By then, Lucas Kunin was starting that little disappearing act.
53:56When he did get to the second, he started to lose contact with the Belgian.
54:01Maxime Renault charged down the inside of Andrea Adamo.
54:03That was late on in the race.
54:07And that put him up into, what, fifth place?
54:14Geiser was a little bit further back.
54:18Renault and Vellmo, they fought over fourth position.
54:21Renault got himself in the fourth.
54:23Geiser found his way up into sixth.
54:26This was the 9-5-9 of Renault finding his way past Vell for that fourth place.
54:33But Lucas Kunin, absolutely sensational.
54:36A 20-second advantage over Hurlings, Fevre, Renault and Vell coming home in fifth.
54:46And Lucas Kunin now leads the championship by two points.
54:49He's on 77, Tom Vell on 75, tied with Romain Fevre.
54:54Hurlings on 72, five points separating the first four after race one, after three races in 2026.
55:08So Lucas Kunin then takes his first win of the season.
55:12He went 4-6 in Argentina.
55:14Gets off to a flying start here in Andalusia.
55:17Hurlings second.
55:18No match for Kunin in race one.
55:20Roman Fevre third.
55:21Maxime Renault fourth.
55:22Tom Vell fifth.
55:24Tim Geiser, Andrea Adamo.
55:25Ben Watson on page one in eighth on the Dirt Store Triumph.
55:29Mattia Guadagnini and Kai DeWolf running a top ten.
55:32Guadagnini getting by DeWolf in the final stages.
55:35Then we have Vandonek, Fernandez, Ferrato, Hiertz, Horgmo and Siwa bringing up the points.
55:41Enzo Lopes of Brazil.
55:42Kevin Vellanren, Adam Sterry and Jose Dutron.
55:50Fox hole shot.
55:56Tom Vell by about a bite length.
56:00And then that was the carnage behind.
56:04First one of the year for the Honda HRC Petronas rider.
56:0962 in the books now for the Frenchman.
56:28So Lucas Kunin on fire in MXGP race one making it look as easy as it was in the qualifying
56:35race on Saturday.
56:38Wouldn't want to be in the queues for the food and drink right now, would you?
56:41But that's exactly what's going to happen.
56:42Great atmosphere here in Spain.
56:44Let's take a look at some of the best moments.
