00:00What a stacked field. It's Detroit, it's the Motor City, and this is the 250 East Main.
00:09Oh, look at the 10.
00:11Great start, Nate Thrasher.
00:15Did what he did in his heat. Here comes Hamaker.
00:17We talked about the starts, Lee, and in the main events, what is Cole Davies going to do?
00:23And he is mid-pack right now, and then when it matters most, these guys, the championship contenders, Seth Hamaker,
00:31Joe Shimoda, execute perfect starts.
00:36Devin Simonson, fourth Viking shot, the white, blue, and light blue Yamaha from Club MX off to a great start.
00:45And great to see Nate Thrasher having a good night so far.
00:51One thing bad, I feel bad for Cole Davies getting a bad start, but it's going to be great for
00:56us watching because we're going to be able to see him go to work.
00:59What round number last year did Nate Thrasher win?
01:04Fifth round.
01:05Round five. Tonight is round five. He's hoping history can repeat.
01:11Seth Hamaker told JT earlier he's going to stop his run of bad luck here in Detroit.
01:16And he sits second, doing the chasing.
01:20Where is Cole Davies? He's buried in eight.
01:23That's one of the Phoenix Hondas down.
01:28I think it's Gavin Towers.
01:32And then Ferry running up there, having a good run.
01:35Right off sequence on that rhythm lane.
01:38He's going to get passed by both Shock and Cole Davies.
01:43All right, keep this time check in mind.
01:45Five and a half seconds.
01:47Davies is in arrears of his teammate and race leader Nate Thrasher.
01:51Oh, one of the passing spots for Cole Davies is definitely going to be the whoops right here.
01:56Watch the time that he'll make.
01:58Somebody's down. Who is it?
01:59It's Nate Thrasher, the race leader.
02:03Ah, we talked on the Yamaha track report how gnarly these whoops were.
02:09JT gave us a great explanation of just why they were.
02:12But look at Joe.
02:14Joe hanging tough.
02:16Let's have a look at what happened tonight, Thrasher.
02:18All right, everything's good.
02:20Comes out of the corner.
02:21Good entry.
02:22Dips the front a little bit.
02:23But see, he misses one with his front end.
02:27Oh, wow.
02:28Mike just pile drives them in.
02:32All when it was going so well.
02:35Right, so the two guys doing the chasing in the championship situation.
02:39Second and third in the points.
02:41Seth Hamaker, Joe Shimoda on your screen right now.
02:44Trying to eat into that points deficit they have.
02:49With Cole Davies.
02:52Great view of the whoops there from behind.
02:55We've been able to see these riders and the lines they're taking.
03:01See, Hamaker is able to gap Joe Shimoda there just by a few bike lengths.
03:07That last lap.
03:09It's going to be really, really exciting to watch these guys as this race shapes up.
03:16Track's going to get a little bit gnarlier, too.
03:19The ruts are going to get a little more challenging.
03:21Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
03:22Cole Davies blasts his way through on the inside.
03:26Past the two Club MX Yamahas.
03:28And Cody's shot gets by his teammate because of that as well.
03:33Oh.
03:34Oh.
03:35Wow.
03:36Uh-oh.
03:36Oh.
03:37Oh, my goodness.
03:38That was a stroke of luck.
03:39Whoa.
03:40How, what did we just see?
03:43I cannot believe that he saved that, that no one else.
03:49Hit him.
03:50Hit him.
03:51Devin Simonson going by a lottery ticket.
03:53Oh, man.
03:54That was incredible.
03:56Wow.
03:58Obviously, Cody didn't need to do that.
04:01Uh-oh.
04:02This is Cole Davies and Joe Shimoda.
04:06Pushes his way through to second.
04:09Joe couldn't do anything about that.
04:11Or can he?
04:12He responds.
04:13Here comes the Honda rider.
04:15Takes the fight back to Cole Davies.
04:17Look at there.
04:18There's that on-off we talked about, but you can get caught up in it.
04:21And it's high risk right there.
04:23They're going back and forth.
04:25But this is a good charge by Cole Davies.
04:27Really important for him to not let those two guys get too far ahead.
04:31When they have the track position, he has turned it on.
04:35Davies told us yesterday he knows how good Seth Hamaka and Joe Shimoda
04:40are.
04:41And he knows that they are going to fight hard for this championship.
04:47120%.
04:47I mean, you go think about Seth Hamaka again.
04:50The one that got away last year.
04:53He was so close to the championship.
04:55Down at the last race at Salt Lake City.
05:01Time check.
05:02Ten minutes plus a lap to go.
05:05Four seconds the difference.
05:06Hamaka to Davies.
05:08Can Cole make that up to get his third win in a row?
05:13He's got to settle in right here.
05:15Now just hit his mark to make sure he executes the whoops.
05:20And the whoops are a bit easier than they were that first time qualifying practice.
05:25So he'll lose a little bit of advantage there.
05:27However.
05:28Oh.
05:28All right.
05:28Here comes Joe Shimoda.
05:29Looked like he stalled the bike.
05:31As we take you back and show you the Simonson Shuffle.
05:35The UFO Plus moment of the race.
05:38How did Devon get away with this?
05:41I mean, I don't even know how to explain it myself.
05:44Watch it.
05:44I mean, the fact no one coming back on that other, that first lane.
05:50Incredible.
05:52Oh.
05:54He probably can't believe it himself.
05:56That was wild.
05:59That was something out of a Travis Pastrana video.
06:02Yeah.
06:03I mean, when you think about it, you know, like people say he couldn't do that again if he tries.
06:08And that is one thing I wouldn't want to try again.
06:12Wow.
06:14And we've just been informed.
06:17Unfortunately, Devon Simonson's luck has run out.
06:20He tangled with somebody and went down in the whoops.
06:23And that's where race leader Seth Hamaker is.
06:27How is that time check going?
06:29What's the difference between the two?
06:31It was at four seconds before.
06:33Yeah, I mean, it's four seconds right now.
06:35So far, Hamaker is keeping it, holding it strong.
06:41Will, what you got?
06:43I mean, I'm thinking back to that conversation that JT had there with Seth Hamaker before when he talked about
06:49just going out there and doing me.
06:51And what that really means for someone like Seth is just hit his marks.
06:55He's a very calculated rider and he knows his capabilities.
06:58He also knows how good Cole Davies is in the whoops.
07:02So whilst he's been working in that area there, he said, look, I know everywhere else on the track.
07:07I'm as good, if not have an advantage.
07:09So what Seth is doing right now is going about doing him.
07:13Can he keep that gap there?
07:14Well, we'll see.
07:15But he's definitely got the skill set in his own mind to get that done.
07:18Sadly, the night is over.
07:20The comeback ride for Casey Cochran aboard the Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna.
07:26But the night is far from over for Cody Shock.
07:29Look at the 22.
07:31He's starting to apply the pressure to Joe Shimoda.
07:34That's for a spot on the podium.
07:36Yeah, he's been working Joe here.
07:38He's just as fast as Joe.
07:42So he's got time to make a move.
07:44Joe's a little off pace right now.
07:48He had that hiccup memory.
07:49He lost a lot of time when he stalled.
07:51As we've crossed the halfway mark, quick reminder to stock up on Monster Energy drinks at your local Kroger.
07:59Kind of twofold right here for Joe.
08:03You know he's a little bit better than this.
08:05But Cody Shock, right, is exceptionally well.
08:08And he had so much momentum the last couple of years.
08:11And now this is the kind of ride it's so cool to see him doing well.
08:15This is what we knew he was capable of.
08:17To watch him build, he's going all over the place.
08:20Going to the left and hand side of the whoops.
08:22And doing that all race long.
08:27Look at this for a move.
08:28Beautifully set up.
08:29Top box.
08:30Cody Shock gets ahead and then blocks Joe Shimoda.
08:34So now it's up to Joe for the return of serve to see if he can come back and grab
08:40that podium, that last step on the podium.
08:42He's got to fight hard.
08:44Uh-oh.
08:44You can see Kameker misses that on and off.
08:47Isn't able to triple.
08:49Cole Davies just reels him in.
08:53I think if you're Kameker right now, you really got to play it cool and just ride your, you know,
08:59ride your race a lot like you told you, JT.
09:01Yeah, watch Cole Davies' entry speed right here, Ricky.
09:04He is blitzing through these whoops.
09:07Whoa!
09:07And he goes right past him.
09:09To the roar of the crowd.
09:11Cole Davies takes the lead.
09:13Yeah, that was a really good pass.
09:15No surprise whatsoever.
09:18He carried so much speed into the whoops that he was able to maintain.
09:22And it looked as though because Seth didn't have this much entry speed that he was trying to get drive
09:29through the whoops, but maybe the tire was spinning too much.
09:31And he lost his forward momentum.
09:33And that's all it took to give you a replay and show you exactly what happened.
09:37Just look at the speed that he comes in.
09:40Seth is going sideways.
09:42Great job by Cole Davies right there to not just make huge contact.
09:49Just kind of checks up.
09:51Shows some patience.
09:52Now, this is a great opportunity for Seth to really follow and watch Cole.
09:59And look at that, man.
10:00Unbelievable.
10:02It's whoops speed.
10:06This happened a little earlier.
10:10Daxton Benick in the top box.
10:14Oh, no.
10:15Front end washes out on him.
10:17Looks like maybe the front just over-rotated.
10:20That was Nick Romano who went by.
10:22Nick sitting in a five and six spot.
10:24Henry Miller is in the top five.
10:26That's a great ride from Henry.
10:28And then Daxton dropped to seventh just ahead of Evan Ferry.
10:34How about Kyle Peters via the LCQ and runs ninth?
10:42Barry putting in a good ride.
10:44This would be his best finish.
10:45He's had a great day all day long.
10:47And he crashed hard earlier today in practice.
10:57Check out the wolf times.
11:00Cole Davies, 6.4, two tenths faster than Cody Shock.
11:05The biggest thing is his competitor for the championship.
11:10You can see the difference there.
11:12That's an eternity.
11:14Add that up in 15 laps.
11:16Oh, yeah.
11:16See what you get.
11:18And the points leaving Detroit if the positions stay as they are for another three and a half minutes plus
11:24a lap.
11:25Davies extends his lead from six to nine points.
11:28Heading to St. Louis next weekend and heading to the next east-west showdown.
11:33Oh, this would be some good momentum.
11:38Check this out.
11:40We were talking about Phoenix Honda's Evan Ferry.
11:42What happened to the youngster in the wolves?
11:45It seemed like it was going pretty good.
11:47And, oh, it looks like it's running another good save.
11:50That's two on the nine.
11:51That's two on the nine.
11:54Remember, yeah, he did the same thing there.
11:56But it looked like his front end started to push and washed out, but then grabbed and ejected some great
12:04strength to hold on to that thing.
12:06Wow.
12:12This man here looking smooth and well in control, JT.
12:18Five seconds out in front.
12:20Yeah, he's just making up so much time in the wolves every single lap.
12:24And it's such a high-risk, high-reward move he's making.
12:28You know, we did that Yamaha track map segment, and I talked about how cuffed out they were.
12:32He's on the very top edge of the wolves, and he's above that cuffed out section.
12:39You see, he's above that cuffed out.
12:40He's skipping right across the top.
12:42The trouble is, if you miss one the way Nate Thrasher did, you were immediately going over the mark.
12:48It is such an advanced maneuver.
12:50But that's, again, that's how you win races, the way Cole Davies is doing.
12:53Well, and the thing that's impressive, another thing that's impressive about the wolves with Cole Davies is he has...
13:00Oh, no!
13:01Cody Shock crashes into the tower at the end of the wolves while fighting Joe Shimoda for a podium spot.
13:10Yeah, when the wolves get cuffed out like that, Cole Davies has so much discipline of not missing the wolf,
13:18a wolf, like JT was saying.
13:20And that's what's so impressive, especially with how fast he's going through there.
13:24Hate to see that for Cody Shock.
13:26Man, he had a good run going.
13:28But, hey, he's still in great position here.
13:31That was, he was fighting for just his second career podium.
13:38But, he's still riding.
13:40That could have been a whole lot worse.
13:42A hundred percent.
13:42Another thing about when you're able to have good entry speed to the wolves, you're able to maintain that through
13:50there instead of trying to build speed.
13:54Therefore, you can kind of manipulate the throttle, make sure that your tire doesn't spin.
13:59You're always getting forward drive, whereas if you don't come in fast, now you're trying to build speed.
14:04Then you start getting further back on the bike, and you run out of leverage.
14:09There you go.
14:10These things are absolutely brutal.
14:13How about this man here?
14:16Yeah.
14:17Aboard the MX-6 Kawasaki, Henry Miller is headed, cross your fingers for him, because he's headed for a career
14:24-best fifth place.
14:27Yeah, he's been sneaky.
14:29Looking good.
14:30That is awesome.
14:32Yeah.
14:33He's got Daxton Benick about five seconds behind.
14:38Time is running out for Benick, that is, to get back up into the top five.
14:44One, you think about this ride for Miller, and think about the guys that he's racing.
14:49I mean, the Davies, the Hammackers, the Shimotas, and even Shock.
14:53We talk about them so much.
14:56I mean, Henry's putting on a great ride here.
15:00Solid, looks really, really comfortable on his motorcycle.
15:04And a big congrats to Nick Romano in his second race aboard that Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki.
15:13He runs seven.
15:14For Kyle Peters and Derek Kelly, who came by in the LZQ, they're in the top ten as well.
15:21Here's Nick Romano.
15:23Really good stuff.
15:25Yeah, huge bounce back for Romano as well after last week.
15:31A little less chaotic here just being a regular divisional race rather than the East-West showdown for sure.
15:37He finished 18th last weekend in Birmingham.
15:40This seventh is really good.
15:42But how about the teenager from Waitoki, New Zealand?
15:45And it has a tiny population.
15:48This was an excellent ride to be able to come from, you know, sixth, seventh place.
15:54He was ninth on the first lap past his main competitors.
15:58There's been no fluster or panic.
16:01He's just been in control.
16:03And this is going to be win number three in a row.
16:08How about this?
16:11Cole Davies nodding his head saying, look at me.
16:15Davies wins Detroit.
16:16Detroit and extends his championship lead in the 250 East Division.
16:23And Yamaha continues its incredible domination.
16:29Tenth win this year.
16:33And finally, we see Cole Davies release some emotion.
16:39He's been a little bound up this year.
16:41He's been frustrated.
16:42At times, almost angry.
16:44But he looks absolutely delighted with that victory.
16:48Yeah, I mean, again, we talked about his equality win.
16:51He was able to come from behind.
16:53Not only come from behind and just get to win, but to put 12 seconds on Seth Hamaker,
16:59his closest defender for this championship.
17:02And that's got to give you some serious confidence going into the showdown.
17:07Look at all those wins on the pylon right there to the left by Monster Energy.
17:13Yamaha star racing team.
17:15That's incredible.
17:18This franchise has definitely got it going on.
17:22He's describing a few sketchy moments to his mechanic there.
17:25I think he feels maybe fortunate that it went as smooth as it did in the end.
17:30But what a race, what a ride.
17:32This teenage superstar is something else.
