00:00So right now we welcome in from the Dallas Card Show and of perpetual tardiness it is Kate Wardlow and

00:09I'll tell you a story about the disrepair our studio is in a little bit later but first things first

00:15are you chewing gum and why were you late again you guys no gum in my mouth this time however

00:22I did ask like five different people to make sure they couldn't hear my smacking because I was paranoid

00:27we had a little bit of a key mishap but we're all good we're all sorted that's what happened last

00:31time yeah you know what you know what but I'm happy to be here you guys it's the first day

00:35of the Dallas Card Show Thursday it's a good day sun is shining Kate I would just like to thank

00:40you for being here I know my co-host is always very critical and everything but it's just wonderful to

00:45have Kate and I know each other outside of this in case people think I'm just a giant d-hole

00:51for all of this I don't know man I go way back yeah you might be right about that okay

00:56but what kind of feedback did you get from the last time you were on especially with the gum thing

01:02because I'll tell you that turned on me because a lot of people were like how dare you I appreciate

01:07that the people were in my corner they were I appreciate that I feel vindicated I saw you the next

01:12day at the card show I know we're still talking about it I didn't hear a ton they just said

01:16you weren't smacking so I was like that's all that matters okay good good good all right what have you

01:21brought us today and you said today is the start of the Dallas Card Show we will

01:26be out there tomorrow for people who don't know what happens Thursday at the Dallas Card Show Thursday we open

01:31for a vendor check-in at 2 but then the doors open for all access at 4 and then 6

01:37o'clock is VIP and then it goes till 9 so it's a good time to get in early see

01:41the vendors who have set up usually the like the biggest money moves happen on Thursday a lot of people

01:45I know call it dealer day too because a lot of that stuff goes down they're ready to throw down

01:50some cash so it's kind of an exciting day to be in there and just see what's going on it's

01:53usually a lot more chill which is nice if you're like the

01:56crowded vibe is not your thing right then just head over there on Thursday was the last show in January

02:01it feels like it was maybe the most attended show ever broke some records I don't have numbers for you

02:06but we definitely broke some records it was insane it was shoulder to shoulder pretty much all day Saturday we

02:10not have turnstile like clickers and things like that to count we start counting yeah I stand there at the

02:15door and count people yeah oh yeah no I think it's a great idea though Kevin I also want you

02:21to like stop people who don't have a wristband

02:23stand on the chair and just holler here's the deal though because the turnstiles like that my first thought was

02:28six flags whenever we were kids we always thought it'd be funny to cheat the system and go like not

02:33turn the turnstiles so you're not going to get real numbers and that's what you're really that's the only reason

02:37you're investing in the turnstiles I mean we can look at ticket sales you know what we can probably look

02:40at ticket sales that's probably a better approach yeah I was going to say I was like I'll be a

02:43little more simple do you think it's a coincidence that you guys hit your all-time record for attendance the

02:49same show where we brought our show back out there it definitely had something to do with it

02:53thank you guys definitely brought it's the passion for the hobby passion for the hobby the fan fans there you

03:00go all right what are you looking forward to at this show I know we've got some Cowboys legends autographing

03:06Drew Pearson Hollywood Henderson too tall Rocket Ishmael is always there is the best time though he is the nicest

03:13guy yeah he's super fun is there anything else that you feel like will be particularly unique or that you're

03:19looking forward to at this show because I know you've gotten into collecting as well I have

03:23you know I dabble now we have a high-end trade night on Friday so it's kind of exclusive but

03:28the main training on Saturday is just always the best time there's just it goes until it goes until 2

03:33a.m. I don't think I've ever stayed the whole time because I'm like people could just keep going on

03:36and on but it's just it's so good anybody can come you can bring your cards you can set up

03:40on any flat surface and you can just deal all night long yes we would like people to buy tables

03:45but let's be honest we've both seen this people set up their little pop-up shops wherever they want and

03:50marry it it appears yes it does yeah it

03:53it does appear that but it's frowned upon but however some people do do it but I mean we have

03:57a ton of tables but it's it's it's high demand okay which is good yeah absolutely always always yeah I

04:03don't know why it's like selling like the Girl Scout cookies like of course you're gonna get you know sold

04:07on the Girl Scout cookies it's like the little cute girl shows up at your door you're like you're not

04:10gonna say no it's true you think you think you're like oh man I'm working this kid over you know

04:15I'm I know exactly what I'm doing he's sitting there going I've been playing this game longer than you you

04:20know these kids have insane cards

04:22yeah yeah thousands of dollars of cards so no one's yeah no one's under any disillusion they know what's going

04:27on you'll be fooled by their adorableness Corey that's the reason like that's the adrenaline every one of the guys

04:33that I talk to they show up they love that part they love the bartering they love the back and

04:37forth of it and it's part of the it's part of the community it's fun don't be fooled by the

04:42case either there's people in there with the nice professional cases but you'll see people with backpacks just drop these

04:47insane cards that you're just like holy moly

04:50the sleeper the sleeper yes yeah all right people ask us this all the time because I know obviously we

04:54talk a lot about sports cards and everything but the Pokemon factor there is really high is it not it's

05:01coming up at the Dallas card show specifically like we probably have a 40 60 split so 60 sports cards

05:06we still have a strong sports card present there's tons of really high end cards but the Pokemon has made

05:11its way up I mean after like we had the illustrator at the last Dallas card show they brought like

05:15the nine the Beckett nine Pikachu illustrator which was insane

05:18and then of course like tons of vendors are bringing Pokemon and we even have like Marvel Yu-Gi-Oh

05:23one piece I mean lots of one piece is taken on one piece is that probably the next one is

05:27that is that all the animated stuff is that any live action one piece cards that exist yet because I

05:34know that's starting to grow a little bit right now too yeah these cards okay all right sure in fact

05:39because my kids interested in that too so yeah looking around and I don't know if he'll be there this

05:44time but I think it's Tone Rodriguez

05:46has been out at y'all so many times in the past he's the guy who if you've ever seen

05:53the office episode where Pam makes a comic book for Jim as the Christmas present that moves his heart he

06:01made that and he's also an artist for Futurama and everything he's been out there a ton so you guys

06:06have a great I feel like balance we do and we have Brian Massey who he's like an MMA TCG

06:12narrator for some of the actual shows so he's coming out I believe it's Friday

06:16Saturday and Saturday I'll have to double check but so yes we had some cool voice actors last time so

06:20just if you're into that anime like one piece Pokemon we have a lot of those voices behind the characters

06:25which is really cool so you can kind of meet them and put like a name to the face I

06:29mean do you feel like Pokemon is the better way to say it than Pokemon Pokemon you got to say

06:34the E Pokemon Pokemon Pokemon I'm asking I feel like Pokemon is probably the amateur way to say it Pokemon

06:40sounds like intelligent

07:23We're going to go, okay, see? There's another

07:25person in here that's like, oh, I agree with

07:27that. I definitely agree with that.

07:29Don't believe everything you're on the radio. Alright, so

07:31we get asked these questions

07:33all of the time, and I know just a couple miles

07:35away from the shop, Sports Collectors Hub

07:37in Allen, you can always visit

07:39that if it's not time for the Dallas Card Show.

07:41People who are like, who do I

07:43trust? Where can I find out prices?

07:45What about my collection?

07:47Do you feel like the show can be a one-stop

07:49shop for a lot of those people?

07:51The show is a great place, especially like people will

07:53bring in their 80s and 90s, or they'll bring in

07:55something niche that we don't necessarily

07:56like to buy. We always recommend

07:59go to a show because there's so many

08:01vendors. There's over 700 vendors who can give you

08:03a different opinion. So if we aren't

08:05willing to buy them for the shop, we

08:07have like the perfect place for you to go and

08:09shop around. And you can find someone because

08:11there's something for everybody. One man's trash is

08:13another man's treasure, so you'll definitely find someone at the show

08:15who wants whatever you have.

08:17It's just sometimes it's a little more niche.

08:18Maybe not 91 Donriss.

08:19Yeah, I was like, maybe I was like 80s and 90s.

08:22Some of your cards, unfortunately, you could

08:25just throw in the actual

08:26trash. How often,

08:28because I know obviously you're always doing video

08:31content and stuff like that. Are you there

08:33in the shop when you have to see people's

08:35heart get broken? It is really sad. They're like,

08:37oh, my uncle just passed away and he had these

08:39sports cards from a long time ago and they bring

08:41them in and it's just like the most busted

08:42box of 80s and 90s. And they're like,

08:45oh, I just wanted to see what this would be worth. He's

08:47been just saving this for me. And I'm like,

08:49who's going to tell him? Who's going to

08:51tell him first? I had to tell Corey

08:53that many years ago. And that's what I think

08:55the best approach instead of telling him

08:56is just to stand up,

08:59walk over to the trash can and just

09:01throw him in there. Dramatic mic drop.

09:03And then look at them and

09:05they'll get it. You don't even have to say

09:06anything. You don't have to be the bad guy.

09:09You just actually speak louder than words. Exactly.

09:10Man, do you feel like that could cause an issue

09:13if you just took that person's cards and just

09:15put them in the trash and you're like, that's what it's worth?

09:17No, you don't even have to say that. They get it,

09:18Kevin. They understand. This is tough love.

09:21I think there's cruelty on both sides. And what's going to happen

09:23here, the hope

09:25here is that you do that enough times.

09:27My collection of late

09:2980s and 90s donors. Becomes rare.

09:30This is his strategy.

09:33You've got a lot of work to do,

09:35man. You're going to have to scour the globe

09:37to get rid of some of

09:38some of those cards. All right.

09:48kinds of places to park

09:50as well. Any suggestions for parking?

09:52So parking's tricky because

09:54the hotel parking lot sometimes fills up and then

09:56so that's tricky.

09:58Across the road, you can also park

10:00at Waters Creek and just walk across.

10:02That crosswalk is pretty easy to use.

10:04There's signs and everything. And you'll know you're almost there

10:06because you'll see people. Yes.

10:08Like what the case is. Kind of descending.

10:11Descending. Saturday was kind of eerie.

10:13Yeah. It was crazy. Absolutely.

10:14Oh yeah. I wanted to do the show outside

10:16because it's just too nice of a day.

10:17So I got to tell Ross about that tomorrow.

10:20I don't know if that is going to work out.

10:23I'll just run a cable.
