00:00She has been cranking out all the Dallas Cowboy updates.
00:04Yesterday, it was on Patrick Queen, N'Kobe Dean, Trey Hendrickson, Reek Wollin.
00:11And it was a little bit of a slow day.
00:12She texted us that.
00:14And then all hell broke loose.
00:17Did not think with how hard she was working last night.
00:20She was 100% go for 720 this morning.
00:23But she's a trooper.
00:25The great Jane Slater Cowboys.
00:27Oh, sorry.
00:28The great Jane Slater on 105.3 The Fan.
00:35Good morning.
00:36It is too early for that this morning.
00:39When did you go to sleep?
00:42Like 2.30.
00:44When did you wake up?
00:47Like 10 minutes ago.
00:51I am doing a rare interview from bed.
00:54Yes.
00:54Well, thank you so much for that.
00:55Okay.
00:55Your boyfriend, what is he doing when you are just on a roll?
01:00You get in these zones.
01:02And what is he doing?
01:03Is he even home?
01:04Was he out of the house?
01:06Or he just has to go watch his shows in the other room?
01:10He has a real job.
01:12He works at the shop.
01:14He creates handmade wallpaper, guys.
01:16So he is not here four days out of the week.
01:19So he doesn't have to deal with any of this drama.
01:21In fact, yesterday he had called a couple of times.
01:23And I haven't even updated him on all of this information.
01:27So he just said, we'll talk tomorrow.
01:31What a good understanding, boyfriend.
01:33He's not there right now.
01:33Okay.
01:34All right.
01:35Take us through your evening with the Max Crosby news.
01:39Well, I think that was like a lot of people.
01:42You know, there's so many things on the internet you can't trust these days.
01:45And when I initially saw that, you know, I had to trust but verify.
01:50And then once it was true, you know, my questions were just as immediate as so many fans, which was,
01:58okay, are the Cowboys now in on the Max Crosby deal?
02:02And if that's not the case, do one of the linebackers they were interested fall to them?
02:08You know, do the Raiders have the capability now to keep Quay Walker and Kobe Dean?
02:13And I was able to check that one off the box pretty quickly.
02:17It was my understanding, you know, Vegas was going to honor that, that they were going to be able to
02:22keep Dean and Walker.
02:24So that was off the table.
02:26I wasn't able to quickly get anything on the Cowboys and where they're interested.
02:32But then when I finally got a hold of someone and they said, you know, quote, you know, we like
02:37what we did with Rashawn.
02:39We're moving on.
02:40And I still had these questions of, just like everybody else, that can't possibly be the answer if you were
02:48interested.
02:49You know, and again, it's still been kicked around whether they made an official offer.
02:53I have not been able to get confirmation.
02:57Everyone that I talked to said that they had talked about a lot of things as it related to the
03:03Cowboys interest and Max Crosby.
03:05The Ravens were the ones that had the two bona fide first round picks.
03:10So obviously the Raiders are going to go with that.
03:12But then my question came up, because as you had, you know, recorded last night, Adam Schefter talking about Dr.
03:18Cooper's involvement.
03:20And now I'm just trying to characterize, well, when did Dr. Cooper get involved?
03:24The way that Adam made it sound was it was an independent review for the Ravens that helped the Ravens
03:32assess that maybe the risk of where the cartilage was
03:38and the stress to the bone around it was maybe, maybe the risk was too high right now to fully
03:47assess what his availability would be both in the short term and the long term.
03:51And therefore, two first round picks were too costly.
03:54My other question is, knowing that, did the Ravens go back to the Raiders and say, okay, we actually have
04:01a little bit more concern here about his future.
04:06Would you consider, you know, taking a first pick or lowing the field?
04:11I don't know.
04:11That's a question no one's been able to answer right now either.
04:14You know, now it's been reported that the Ravens are not going to give Max Crosby away for a discount.
04:21So it sounds like for right now, Max Crosby is planning on staying with the Raiders.
04:26And as one person described it to me, you know, if they've got Quay Walker, they've got N'Kobe Dean
04:31and Max Crosby,
04:32and let's say he is ready to go as Crosby and his doctor who did the surgery say, then they're
04:39going to have an incredible pass rush next year.
04:41So it's just the whole thing is wild to me.
04:43Is the relationship with the Raiders in a position where, I mean, is it even in a close position where
04:50he could stay?
04:53All signs are pointing to that right now.
04:55I mean, you know, I think it's, I think everyone's trying to save face right here, right now.
05:00But I also think everybody understands.
05:06I think what I'm struggling with.
05:09Waking up.
05:10I still have a lot of questions on this.
05:11Because if you think about it, as I've been told, when a team makes the offers, the trainers then are
05:19authorized to share the medical records.
05:23So the Ravens saw the medical records, the images, when they made the offer.
05:30So what changed between that and when they got the physical in the Ravens building?
05:36And so that's where everyone's coming up with their conspiracy that, well, they decided they wanted Trey Hendrickson because they're
05:42going to get the pass rusher, his market dropped, and now they can keep their two first ones.
05:47I suppose that's a possibility.
05:48I suppose they could have used this loophole of, we don't know what the long-term, short-term is, but
05:54by the Ravens coming out with this, I mean, it's really hurt Max Crosby's market right now.
06:00You know, if you think about it, the Raiders, let's say Max Crosby rehabs, and everybody said this to me,
06:08I had one GM who said this to me, they knew he wasn't going to quote-unquote pass the physical
06:12because of where he was in his recovery.
06:15I mean, he just got off the crutches.
06:17You know, so typically the recovery for something like this is four to six months, he's in months too.
06:22So then let's assume the Raiders say, okay, we're going to hold on to him for a while.
06:25Maybe they think that they can re-enter this market later down the line because they feel that good about
06:33what his surgeon is saying and what they're seeing.
06:37They're not necessarily afraid to say, hey, we're going to let him back in the building and maybe we re
06:41-approach on this thing and we still get more picks.
06:44It just affects them, obviously, right now in their draft plans.
06:49Jane Slater from NFL Network joining us here on 105.3 The Fan.
06:52Jane, let's take the Cowboys line at their word, which is, it's Rashaun Gary and we've made our moves and
07:01we've moved on with our lives.
07:03If that's the case, if that is the position of the Cowboys, does that just basically destroy the whole bust
07:11the budget line that they've been preaching this offseason?
07:14See, I disagree.
07:18Look, I think there were two things that stood out to me, even when, you know, it was, it was,
07:25it was Max Crosby's, I'm moving slow this morning, guys.
07:30There's so much information, you guys are killing me waking up on this.
07:35If you listen to the statement that came out from Max Crosby's doctor, he talked about basically the risk assessment
07:43of the cartilage and the stress around the bone, right?
07:47So if there is a risk there and the Cowboys are looking at, well, we were going to give up
07:53a first round pick and let's assume if it was trading for a veteran player and a second round pick,
08:00that's a pretty big gamble.
08:03If there's still a high risk assessment of stress on the cartilage and the bone.
08:10So I, knowing that and knowing Dr. Cooper at some point, whether it was looking at the slides before he
08:19got to the Ravens at the physical, or if he consulted on them after the Ravens did their own slides,
08:25I actually think it's easier to understand why the Cowboys are saying we're good right now.
08:31And I think, here's how I would position it, guys.
08:34Let's consider an alternate reality.
08:37The Cowboys actually ended up giving up their two first round picks.
08:42Then we hear that Max Crosby has the same prognosis by Dr. Cooper after they do the physical and the
08:49slides.
08:50Are you guys good walking away from it like the Ravens did, or are you holding on to it?
08:54Because I think the fans would kill him for that.
08:57Great question.
08:57What would Jerry do?
08:58I mean, that's a fantastic question.
09:01Would they kind of rescind it like Baltimore did?
09:03And just for the order of things, Jane, a lot of Cowboy fans are saying, hang on a second.
09:07Why did they make their offer?
09:09And you're doing a great job with the medical stuff, so I'm not going to try to get into the
09:12cartilage and all that at five hours sleep.
09:15On Monday, they made their offer, or maybe they didn't, but it was thought that they were throwing out their
09:20offer.
09:21Why would they have made the offer if Dr. Cooper was aware of this?
09:26And isn't the answer to that, Dr. Cooper got involved after a trade was executed?
09:32Yes.
09:33That's where I keep landing.
09:34Yeah.
09:36And if he got involved after the trade was executed, is there also a, if the Cowboys did get any
09:43sort of just like whispers around or anything like that, if that was an independent medical review, they wouldn't necessarily
09:48be able to have that information.
09:51So it might have to be a Rashawn Barry line.
09:54Correct.
09:55Because I don't believe that they, you know, once the physical gets done in the Ravens house, I can't, I
10:03have not been able to independently verify.
10:06Then could Dr. Cooper technically share that with the Cowboys, right?
10:10Like it just, to me, it just seems like anybody would be like, okay, we're exercising caution here.
10:14We're still gathering information.
10:16I think Cowboys fans should actually feel good about that.
10:19Not only that, they told us that they weren't interested in injured players.
10:24I mean, they sort of, even the Trey Hendrickson thing, they're sort of staying away from that because of their
10:28own concerns about the core muscle injury.
10:31Okay.
10:31So, so Jane Slater from NFL Network with us here.
10:33That's what, that was going to be my next question.
10:35If there's a reason on Crosby that you can point to that's medically and that doesn't undo the bust the
10:42budget thing, why doesn't Hendrickson?
10:43But do you think the Cowboys have longer injury term concerns with him?
10:47I don't know.
10:48So, you know, there are, anyone I've talked to on this, there's still a whole lot of, I don't know.
10:54All I would say is if, if other teams trusted Max Crosby's doctor and his agent, and, you know, I've
11:02talked to the agent about some of the things that we've heard about, you know, the severity of Max's injury.
11:08And I've been told, quote, materially false.
11:11Like they are still writing that he is going to be ready to go, you know, for next year.
11:17But maybe there are now questions like, is he going to be available in that capacity?
11:23Is it, do they feel good about the strength of the bone and the cartilage in the one year, two
11:29year term?
11:29I mean, I can't imagine that the Ravens at 29, knowing that he's had a meniscus repair, thought that they
11:35were going to keep in the building for four to five years.
11:38Good.
11:39So to me, this sounds more intermediate concerns.
11:42And then with the Trey Hendrickson thing, okay, there's concerns about the core muscle injury.
11:48They get the number down.
11:49Let's say they come $10 million off of it.
11:51They don't have to give up their two first round picks.
11:54And remember, they lost a lot in this free agency.
11:59So you've got a way.
12:00We lost a lot.
12:01Then we got a set of goods that maybe wasn't as good as we thought it was going to be
12:08here and was going to make an immediate impact for us.
12:11I almost think, you know, you know, GM's got to think about his team.
12:16He's got to think about the roster.
12:19You know, if they found something in the slides that they didn't feel good about in the short term, you
12:24can sort of understand why they and maybe now a couple of other teams are saying, hey, let's wait till
12:30Crosby is further along in his rehab before we re-approach.
12:35And maybe the Cowboys aren't out of this down the road, but maybe it's just too early to make some
12:42of these pricey offers, especially before the draft.
12:45When the Cowboys have these two first round picks to sort of gamble that away right now, it just might
12:51be too early.
12:52Jane, do you think the Cowboys' position is that they've exhausted their top end budget?
12:58I don't think so.
13:00God, people are killing me right now because they think I'm carrying the Cowboys' water.
13:04That is not the case.
13:06There are a couple of things that we've killed the Cowboys for over the years.
13:10Brandon Carr, we killed them back in the day for when they made that one, right?
13:15You know, the Morris Claiborne, when they moved up, he had the injury.
13:19You know, ultimately, he didn't work out.
13:20Killed them for it, right?
13:23When they've gone after these defensive coordinators over the years, and a lot of people, they feel like they were
13:29young enough or innovative enough.
13:31They went and got you Christian Parker.
13:33He impressed us all at the press conference, right?
13:36They even went out and got you a new young head coach with all of this injury, and Brian Schottenheimer,
13:41and you like what he's doing with the offense.
13:43I can confirm that N'Kobe Dean, they went after that one hard.
13:47I was told two different things on that from multiple sides.
13:51One, the offer was similar.
13:53Another one, the offer was actually a little bit higher depending on how you look at the way the contract
13:59was structured.
14:00And everyone was killing N'Kobe Dean or the Cowboys saying, why would you choose Las Vegas over the Cowboys?
14:05Like, that's how far the Cowboys have fallen.
14:08No, we had two of his Georgia teammates on the team.
14:10It was similar or anything.
14:11And I was told it was a 51-49.
14:14He basically had to sleep on it and decided he was going to go with his gut feeling.
14:18And maybe his gut feeling was he was getting Max Crosby back, and it was going to be a hell
14:20of a pass rush.
14:22Well, Jane, I'm curious then, on Dean specifically, that's a good example.
14:27If Dean signs for 12 and the Cowboys were close, or if you look at it structurally, wouldn't bust the
14:31budget then be,
14:32all right, even though we don't want to go to 14, 14, or something along those lines,
14:36wouldn't that be overpaying a little bit in some instances?
14:39Yeah, I mean, what I do like about the Cowboys here is, you know, we've talked about the draft boys.
14:45You don't always reach, you know, you can't reach sometimes for these guys.
14:51And so the Cowboys are, you know, I know people hate the term, they're being selectively aggressive.
14:57But even I was shocked by the N'Kobe Dean offer.
15:00I'm with all of you guys.
15:02I'm cynical.
15:02I've got trust issues.
15:04But that one told me that they were trying to get in the mix.
15:10You know, and they were even, you know, I've been reporting, they were looking at all these guys,
15:15like Boye Maffe and a couple of the other guys.
15:18Like, they've been doing the work.
15:22And now I think at least they had a vision for what they wanted to do for this team.
15:27I love what they did with the safety around the league.
15:30People love what they did with the safety with Thompson.
15:33You got Rashawn Gary, which I think people are underestimating his connections to the team.
15:38The fact that he's worked out with this pass rush specialist since his rookie season, he knows him.
15:44He knows how to fit him in the system.
15:46Rashawn and Kenny Clark know each other.
15:50Everyone I've talked to said the players that they picked was all about versatility, play now, and familiarity with the
15:59scheme.
15:59And they've achieved that.
16:01What's the latest that you're hearing on Patrick Queen?
16:05The Patrick Queen thing is still a weird one to me.
16:08I got the sense that they were interested in him.
16:13But I couldn't get it confirmed that they actually called the Steelers on it.
16:17You know, you can talk.
16:19But it doesn't necessarily mean that you've made an official offer.
16:24And I got the sense that maybe the building wasn't unanimous on that one.
16:29Jane Slater, NFL Network, here on 105 Through the Fan.
16:32What's your opinion on the Brandon Aubrey situation?
16:37Well, I mean, what a story for Brandon Aubrey to go from computer programmer, an MLS little career, and now
16:46you are, you know, holding the Cowboys here saying, well, we're going to see what else is out there.
16:53I also appreciate what the Cowboys are doing with him and George Pickens.
16:57Okay?
16:57Hear me out, guys.
16:58They put a second-round tender on both of them.
17:01In other words, saying, we've got some nice little assets here.
17:04If anyone wants to call us before we break the bank and pay these guys, let's see what we can
17:11get here.
17:12You know, the other thing that Cowboys fans have hated about them in the long term was you knew that
17:16they were over a player or they wanted to trade them.
17:20They're playing things a little – the art of war has changed for them.
17:24Maybe Christian Parker has gotten them a little bit with his philosophy studies.
17:29I kind of like that they're at least saying, let's see what the market bears here.
17:35But I would also argue that Aubrey is worth that $7 million, $8 million range.
17:41Wouldn't be surprised if they figure something out with him.
17:43But this is just everybody testing the market.
17:46And, you know, Dak has shown he's got a stomach for it in Todd France.
17:49And I think that's what they're essentially saying to Aubrey.
17:51And Aubrey honestly has the stats and the numbers to have the stomach here.
17:57Any other final predictions or info that you think Cowboy fans should know before you go back to sleep?
18:04Well, I do think, you know, we have until 4 o'clock today.
18:10How does the edge rushers with some of these other teams, you know, do these other teams stay committed to
18:18some of the free agents they talk to?
18:20And then would that change the landscape for the Cowboys here?
18:25So maybe there are some other moves that could get changed.
18:28But right now it does kind of look like everyone's sticking with their guys.
18:31And Max Crosby stays a Raider.
18:33And they're not going to take a discount.
18:36And everything will be as is.
18:37But, you know, normally I get scheduled for like seven days of free agency coverage.
18:42And it's always Cowboys like their guys season.
18:45And I'm like coming up with 20 different angles and ways to say that this has truly been unpredictable.
18:52The Cowboy fans may not love.
18:54Cowboy fans need like 10 big names to feel good in free agency.
18:58And I know they think that I'm being condescending and I'm talking down to them.
19:01But I'm like, it's okay to give them credit when credit is due.
19:06It's okay.
19:09You've been absolutely crushing it.
19:11Thank you so much.
19:12Work ethic second to none.
19:13And we'll continue to point people your way.
19:16Keep doing your thing.
19:17Thank you so much for joining us.
19:19Going back to sleep.
19:20Bye.
19:20Good night.
19:21The great Jane Slater NFL Network on the DNM leasing hotline here on Sean and RJ 105.
19:27Three the fan.
19:28Somebody texted and said, I think Jane's a fan after dark guest.
19:32Hey, she sounded much better than I thought.
19:34No, she was going to, I, I, that's why we needed sex at 7 to make sure she was awake.
19:39She needed that 20 minutes to.
19:40Because we booked her before the Crosby stuff.
19:42And she wasn't responding.
19:44She'd been responding the whole week.
19:46One minute, one minute in, 60 seconds in, 30 seconds in.
19:49And I'm like, you want to come on to 720?
19:52Ghost.
19:53Dead silent.
19:54Wow.
19:54And then Bobby had to re-engage.
19:57Circle back and she went, ugh.
19:59That's what, that was her first response.
20:00You're killing me.
20:00You're killing me.
20:01You're killing me.
20:02The world is awake.
20:03But she's absolutely crushing on the YouTube, the fan cam, and the Twitch, at Jane Slater on all the socials.
