The K&C Masterpiece dipped into Gridiron Gravy and recapped recent NFL free agent moves. They discussed what the Cowboys have done so far, examined other key signings from around the league, and analyzed hypothetical Osa Odighizuwa trade scenarios, highlighting how a move like this could impact the Cowboys and their cap space.

00:00And right now, powered by Men's Tea Clinic, it's time to go around the entire NFL
00:06and dip it in some gridiron gravy.
00:10DIP it and LIP it, Kevin, from the 806.
00:14Does it say something that zero Cowboys free agents have been signed by a different team?
00:19Yes. Yes, it does.
00:21It says you had one of the worst, a historically bad defense last year.
00:27Right.
00:27And you are doing everything you can to correct that.
00:31I mean, those guys back is probably not the best idea,
00:35as they were a reason that you were a historically bad defense last year.
00:39Yeah. Yeah.
00:42That's a good way to put it.
00:44So, yes.
00:45Now, there's been a few others that I know that we have missed out on,
00:54and wanted to run through a few here that I know folks on social media were making waves about.
00:59And they were like, hey, why didn't the Cowboys go do this person, go get this person, go do that
01:03deal.
01:05The Bears lost Nashawn Wright to the Jets one year, $5.5 million max.
01:11The Titans, they signed Elante Taylor to a three-year, $60 million deal with $42 million guaranteed.
01:21What did y'all think of the player?
01:23Because I know that's somebody that we've talked about with Bobby before.
01:26Or was this always going to be too expensive for the Cowboys?
01:29Seemed to be a good fit for them, my understanding.
01:35I have no clue where the Cowboys are in the cornerback market right now.
01:39That's the thing, because, like, Tariq Woolen, we kind of got the idea that they were out on him altogether.
01:45Right.
01:46They were looking at it, but not looking at it.
01:48Though he also, one year, $15 million with the Eagles.
01:52Yeah.
01:52And do you feel like you might be able to beat him with George Pickens?
01:56Maybe.
01:57Yeah.
01:58But I have no clue where they are in the market.
02:00And here's why.
02:04Your defensive coordinator is the guru when it comes to secondary.
02:10So is he saying, no, no, we're good.
02:13I'll figure out with what I have.
02:16Or is he saying, let's find some other guys that, you know, in the draft or something like that, that
02:21I can really grow.
02:21I have no clue where he is with this.
02:24But, again, this comes to I'll trust Christian Parker until he gives me a reason not to.
02:29Okay.
02:29Yeah.
02:30I can appreciate that fact.
02:32All right.
02:32But I think a lot of people will be in the boat of another sign of proof that Jerry hasn't
02:38changed.
02:38Sure.
02:39And he's not going to pay any of these cornerbacks or any of these players at the top of the
02:43food chain.
02:44Yeah.
02:45The Steelers agreed to a one-year contract extension with Cam Hayward for a total value of $32.25 million.
02:51That includes a $16.25 million fully guarantee.
02:57This is Hayward's fifth NFL contract.
03:01Now, I choose to believe that the NFL saw this success or they've seen the success of Peace-A-Thon.
03:09And that's why they're doing this.
03:11They're exploring adding a game on Thanksgiving Eve.
03:14Now, we've talked about it for the longest time on Thanksgiving.
03:17You open with the Lions.
03:18Then you have the Cowboys.
03:20And then they've had a rotating night game for Thanksgiving night.
03:25And that has been very successful.
03:27So, now, they are looking to potentially, as soon as this year, add a Thanksgiving Eve game.
03:35I assume it would start at about 7 o'clock to coincide with when Peace-A-Thon normally ends.
03:41I don't know if that's exactly their plan.
03:43We're still working out those details.
03:45What do you think about the idea?
03:48We're still working out those details.
03:50That could be true.
03:51There's no way we could defeat that time.
03:54Yeah, that could be true.
03:55What do you think about the concept of the Thanksgiving Eve game?
04:01I love it.
04:03Okay.
04:04Because, Kevin, guess what that gives me?
04:07Wednesday night football.
04:09And, Corey, I checked the numbers.
04:12And I do believe in a span of nine days that would give you NFL games on seven of them.
04:19I know we're not back.
04:21100% sort of looking for you.
04:23Yeah, we're not quite there yet.
04:25But this does represent a significant step in the direction that I know you've always been wanting.
04:30Yeah, Tuesday night football was one of my favorite moments.
04:33Wednesday night football, even better.
04:35It gets me to Thursday night football that much faster.
04:39Kevin, I do, I mean, obviously, if the NFL wanted to go to Thursday or Wednesday afternoon eve, we'd have
04:49to consider how much they would pay us to move Peace-A-Thon.
04:52Because if they're going to make a hefty donation, then we can only do our part here.
04:57I have always been waiting for a corporation to make a hefty donation to Peace-A-Thon.
05:02Who wants to make a hefty donation to Peace-A-Thon?
05:05And we'll move it for you if that's what you want.
05:07Shoot, if it's hefty enough, we'll do it at your freaking house, man.
05:12So, yes, absolutely, I approve this.
05:14They want to maximize that time.
05:17Yeah.
05:17I'm interested in this, though.
05:20Do more people need off Wednesday now?
05:23Because now you've got to prepare early in the day for Wednesday night's dinner.
05:27Yeah.
05:28See, I've always thought Wednesday should be a half day.
05:30Now, I realize, this is about to be an old man rant here.
05:34I realize that now kids get the whole week off.
05:37But when I was a kid, you got the half day on Wednesday, and we were happy for it.
05:42So, help the adults out.
05:44Yeah.
05:44Make that a half day.
05:45So everyone can make their way out to come see Peace-A-Thon.
05:49I was shocked whenever I saw my kids had a whole week off.
05:52I know.
05:53What the hell is happening here from the 469?
05:55We don't call it Thanksgiving Eve in DFW.
05:57We call it Peace-A-Thon Day.
05:59Mmm.
06:00I freaking love that.
06:02All right.
06:02Love the Tolos.
06:03Let's talk about Osa.
06:05Now, there's been continued discussion that, you know, it depends on who you hear from.
06:12Either the Cowboys are open to trading Osa, or perhaps the Cowboys are the ones who put him on the
06:17trading block.
06:18I'd be more inclined to think that they're listening if people have the offer.
06:22What is the offer that you would need for Osa?
06:26And let me present you with this salary cap information.
06:29I want to thank Spotrack for helping me out with some of this.
06:34If you traded Osa, you would take a dead cap hit of $16 million.
06:42Now, that sounds really bad, right?
06:44Here's the way I can kind of balance it out for you.
06:47His cap hit this year was supposed to be $20.75 million.
06:53All right?
06:54So Osa goes away, and you theoretically save $4.75 million on the cap.
07:01And you take the entire cap hit right now.
07:04So you would not carry over cap hits into 2027 and beyond, because they haven't flipped the switches in his
07:12contract.
07:13And so you would take the hit for the entire signing bonus right then and right there.
07:19Does that interest you, and what would that compensation need to look like?
07:23Max Crosby straight up.
07:25I mean, sure.
07:27Go ahead and make that deal.
07:28I would also do that.
07:30Assuming you can't get that.
07:31I heard some people say a fourth.
07:33I believe that is what Mr. Medford thinks.
07:35I think that's too high a price for other teams.
07:39That's just my opinion.
07:40Okay.
07:41I would love to get a fourth.
07:43It would be awesome to add that compensation to it.
07:47I would feel more like you'd get a fifth.
07:50I think that's about it, though.
07:52Does this change your opinion at all?
07:54It might not.
07:54The new team that acquires Osa will pay $16.75 million guaranteed this season, and then you're on the hook
08:03the next two years for nothing.
08:05Because while his salaries would be 20.5 both years, there's no more guaranteed money.
08:10So the only guaranteed money you'd be acquiring with Osa is $16.75 million.
08:15Does that make a difference, or you're still like, that's still a lot of money?
08:18Look, man, if they want that player that bad, my question is how many people out there want him that
08:24bad?
08:25Yeah, I don't know.
08:26The deal that he signed with this team we thought was pretty spectacular and reasonable.
08:30Safe to assume now that it looks like a bad deal.
08:34He plays really hard.
08:35I agree.
08:37But if you're willing to trade him off one year after you sign him for a fourth or a fifth.
08:40Because you have a plentiful amount of those guys, and you're also asking how he fits into this new defensive
08:50system.
08:51Yeah, it kind of looks like...
08:53But when you made the deal with him, it was with the understanding that you were hoping he would be
08:58a defensive leader for the team.
08:59Right.
09:00And then you were also hoping that he would be in the Eberflus defense for eternity of his contract, and
09:08now it's a different world.
09:09Would you do it for a fifth?
09:11You're the Cowboys.
09:13Would you do it for a fifth?
09:14Yeah, I want a fourth.
09:15Okay.
09:16I would probably do it for a fifth and maybe another compensation if I could get one.
09:20Okay.
09:21Of some sort.
09:22All right.
09:22But yeah.
09:23Like a conditional seven or six?
09:25Yeah, best deal.
09:25Because I would like to be able to manipulate.
09:27Like, you got five fifths or four fifths at that point.
09:30Can I get a fourth out of that?
09:32Yeah.
09:32You know, work something out.
09:33I could do that.
09:33And then obviously, you know, number one is Max Crosby straight up if you can make that happen.
09:39I would also do that.
09:40And I saw this from Bobby.
09:41He sent it to all of us.
09:43The win improvement of the last 10 teams that spent the most in free agency.
09:48Because, you know, especially in baseball, people say, oh, it doesn't matter if you win the offseason.
09:52And over the last decade, the team that has spent the most in free agency has improved by an average
09:58of 5.2 wins.
10:00And they've never improved less than three wins.
10:04So, man, you talk about winning the offseason, how that's not the end-all be-all.
10:08It has really moved the needle in the NFL.
10:10Oh, so adding better players.
10:13I know.
10:13What a novel concept.
10:14But 5.2 wins.
10:17That's a big freaking improvement.
10:19And never less than three.
10:21Cowboys would be an 11-win team.
10:2312-win team.
10:24Man.
10:2413-win team.
10:25Can you imagine the shock if the Cowboys spent the most in free agency?
10:29All they have to do.
10:31They could still make it happen?
10:32Yeah.
10:32Okay.
10:33Go get Daniel Jones.
10:34Well, I mean, that deal's done.
10:37I'm so sorry to tell you that.
10:40Have they spent more already than they have in the past, like, 10 years?
10:44It does feel that way.
10:45And also, you know, they've given out more money per player.
10:49For them, that's busting the budget, isn't it?
10:51I guess.
