16 February - National Weather Forecast presented by Liam Eslick
Transcript
00:00Hello there. It's going to be an unsettled start to the week. There are plenty of showers
00:04around, possibly even some wintry ones across the north, but there is some sunny spells
00:08to come as we go through the week. But for this morning at least, the showers are coming
00:13in this north-westerly breeze and it can be quite brisk at times, especially across the
00:18west, and some of these showers can combine to longer spells of rain through the early
00:21part of the afternoon. But in between those showers, there are some sunnier spells, especially
00:26across the south, the north-east of England and Northern Ireland as well, possibly even
00:30some sunny spells across the western coast of Scotland through the afternoon. But it
00:35will be a relatively mild day, especially across the south, again 9 or 10 degrees here, but
00:40otherwise temperatures around the seasonal average, maybe even feeling quite cold up towards Scotland
00:45in those northerly winds. And a few of those showers again turn into snow, possibly even
00:50on some lower levels through the afternoon as well.
00:53As we go through this evening, much of the showers across the south will start to fade
00:58and start to fizzle away, and we will start to see some clearer skies overnight as well.
01:03So we are expecting those temperatures to fall away and develop some frosty and icy stretches,
01:08especially across Northern Ireland, Northern England and Scotland. So do take care first thing
01:13in the morning on Tuesday. Further towards the south, temperatures may stay above freezing
01:18for a time, but you may see the odd frost patch in some rural spots. But you'll see further
01:24north, those temperatures are touching those freezing levels as well, so likely to see some
01:28icy stretches here. But that will lead to a bright and crisp Tuesday morning. There are a few showers
01:35just running down the north-eastern coast and just a few wintry showers across the northern
01:40isles of Scotland. But otherwise, a mostly dry day, plenty of sunshine, even some brightness
01:46under this higher cloud towards the south and southwest. So milky skies here, a little bit hazy,
01:52but it will be much drier. Albeit, it will be a cold day, a noticeably colder day across the south,
01:58highs of around 7 or 8 degrees. Up towards the north, highs of around 5 or 4. So temperatures
02:04a little bit lower than what we've seen over the last couple of days. But as we go through the
02:09week,
02:09we will cling on to that colder weather. You'll see that high pressure slowly start to drift its way
02:14off, but that colder weather is still in place. We need to keep an eye on this low pressure system
02:19that's running across the south on Wednesday and into Thursday. It's likely to bring more outbreaks
02:25of rain and some windy conditions here. It could lead to a little bit of disruption here and there.
02:31But for all the detail on that, don't forget to head over towards our YouTube channel,
