00:00Dear Egristiz family, we are together again at another Egristiz presidents' session.
00:06Our guest today is the Mayor of Çubuk Municipality in Ankara, Mr. Baki Demirbaş.
00:12Mr. President, welcome to your program.
00:15Nice to meet you, I wish you a good morning and a pleasant workday.
00:18Greetings and respects to all our farmers from there.
00:21We wish and pray for a fruitful year, a bountiful, rainy, and productive year.
00:28Mr. President, we are going through a drought period.
00:30How has the rainfall been there so far this winter season?
00:34Yes, in recent years, climate change has naturally affected our country and our district.
00:43So, last year was quite dry, but right now we haven't had much snowfall for the season, but...
00:50We are better than in previous years, I can say that.
00:53Thank God it snowed, hopefully new processes, new waves will come, we are waiting for that.
01:02But right now the rainfall isn't too bad, not as much as we were expecting, but thankfully we still had some rain.
01:10Mr. President, can we say that Çubuk is the agricultural center of Ankara, our capital city?
01:17Will you join us today?
01:18I would like to share the following points regarding our district with you.
01:23Our district is located 40 kilometers from the city center and is situated on the land where the famous Çubuk Plain is located.
01:35It's a district with truly fertile soil.
01:40Our district is an agricultural town, a livestock town, and for many years it has been the source of livelihood for our district.
01:46Agriculture and livestock farming are the most important driving forces behind the livelihoods of our citizens.
01:53In recent years, its natural industry, education, culture, and tourism have all gained significant momentum.
01:59But our main sector is still agriculture and livestock farming.
02:03We, too, were involved in farming and animal husbandry when we were young.
02:07Therefore, we understand the meaning of agriculture and livestock farming, the importance of agriculture, and the value of production.
02:16Of course, our district has a significant plain, and this area is vast, suitable for cultivation and planting.
02:22In addition, it is known for its natural beauty, especially the forested area we call the Karagör region, where fruits, vegetables and fruit trees are abundant.
02:36This is a region with a variety of produce, from cherries and pears to apples.
02:41We are located in a plain and have an agricultural structure with a high density of fruit trees.
02:48Yes, let me give you some information about our district.
02:50Our total agricultural land area is 452,850 hectares.
02:58Approximately 54% of the land area in our district is used as agricultural land.
03:05An important area.
03:07Of course, irrigated farming is not very widespread.
03:10But recently, especially in our Akuzulu region, tomato and pepper production,
03:18greenhouse areas and those grown using drip irrigation methods,
03:23As you know, our geographically indicated products include the production of fruits and vegetables like our pickles.
03:31This irrigation method has become increasingly popular recently, and naturally, yields are also increasing.
03:36Yes, a total of 2750 citizens in our district are registered with the Agricultural Registration System (ÇKS).
03:43We have an orchard covering 28,000 decares.
03:47We have 12,000 decares of vegetable fields.
03:50Our irrigated farmland covers 17 decares.
03:52We have 82,000 head of cattle, and hopefully that number will increase even further.
03:57With approximately 32,000 head of small livestock and around 20,000 beehives...
04:03I can say that we are an important production center in terms of agriculture.
04:10Naturally, the diversity of agricultural production in these fertile lands of our district has also been increasing recently.
04:17Especially, as you know, our geographically protected product is our pickles,
04:22drip irrigation methods in a wider area and in a more conscious, more technical job
04:29We are truly experiencing a period where productivity is increasing.
04:34Pickles are, of course, a very big industry for us.
04:37We have an economic output of approximately 40,000 tons per year.
04:43We export to 15 countries, and Ankara, our country's center, has a very large market share.
04:51Recently, we have also been pleased by our young colleagues, especially our engineer friends,
04:58Our brothers and sisters who came from family farming have begun to make a significant presence in these sectors.
05:05They turned to agriculture.
05:06This makes us happy.
05:07This also leads to more conscious and higher quality production,
05:11It is important for us that the products truly originate from the local area and are preserved.
05:18That's the beginning of everything.
05:21We have already discussed this with our colleagues, the district agricultural directorate, and the provincial agricultural directorate.
05:25We, as the municipality, are also carrying out the necessary work with our institutions to support this.
05:31Yes, our district is a very productive area in terms of product diversity.
05:37As I said at the beginning of my speech,
05:39This is the diversity of crops we produce in the plain, such as wheat, barley, chickpeas, and sugar beets.
05:46Apart from that, we are present in the field with various products such as cherries, pears, and apples from our mountainous regions.
05:55And we can truly say that our district is an important production center in terms of exports.
06:01Of course, as you know, last year there was a very severe drought, and especially
06:07Unfortunately, our district was severely affected by a frost that occurred right during the fruit tree blooming season.
06:17In this regard, we also visited our farmers and our villages.
06:22Thankfully, our district agricultural directorate, our ministry, and we ourselves have done our best.
06:28We support our farmers.
06:30Hopefully this year will be fruitful, both in terms of rainfall and frost.
06:35We are in a suitable area for this.
06:38Yes, as a municipality, we are always on the side of the farmers in our district.
06:43As I said, we are all children of villagers; we all went through these agricultural processes.
06:50And we are doing everything we can to provide as much support as possible to our farmers.
06:56Specifically, we distribute these seedlings to our farmers every year.
07:02So, we are providing free, fully supported support to one million of our farmers and citizens registered with the Agricultural Registration System (ÇKS).
07:08We are distributing our seedlings.
07:11As part of our Development Agency project, we distributed nearly 3000 cherry saplings.
07:19Let's mention this as well.
07:20Our sour cherries are also a geographically registered product.
07:24Our cherry juice and marmalade are also very special products with their unique characteristics, size, and color.
07:31We provide support to our farmers in many different areas in this regard.
07:38Mr. President, I'm actually very curious about this.
07:42You summarized it very well, thank you very much.
07:44So, there are also local agricultural products in other towns, municipalities, and cities.
07:50They have cheese, they have olives, they have various other products.
07:53But unfortunately, they face huge difficulties in marketing and exporting it, and they are failing to succeed.
08:02How did Çubuk manage to do this?
08:05What kind of sociology does the city of Çubuk have?
08:08What kind of leadership are you providing to shift this production towards export?
08:13Because this also creates employment opportunities.
08:16As you said, it provides opportunities for young people to get involved in this field.
08:20So what's the secret, Mr. President?
08:23Yes, most importantly, of course, God has given us beautiful land, fertile land.
08:30You know, you get great results from everything you plant and cultivate.
08:35This is important.
08:36But in recent times, of course, doing this scientifically, technologically, efficiently, and taking whatever necessary precautions are required is the final step.
08:49Degree is important.
08:50In other words, farming practices carried out without proper knowledge are damaging the agricultural land today, and you are unable to get the yield you need from what you produce.
08:57These are very important.
08:58Regarding these matters, both our district agricultural directorate and our chamber of agriculture, as well as ourselves, are carrying out very important work to raise awareness among our citizens and farmers.
09:08Likewise, as we said, when you mention Çubuk today, when you say Çubuk pickles, when you say pickles, Çubuk has become a brand.
09:18Believe me, even if you go abroad, you'll find this quality product on the shelves.
09:26This is extremely important.
09:27Of course, these kinds of products and brands show you that you need to pay much more attention to the variety and quality of products in your city.
09:39Because when people acquire and consume a product with such value, such a patent, they see the quality in it.
09:49And in other products as well, one wants to find the same taste, the same flavor.
09:55Thankfully, we are confident in our findings, and the naturalness, taste, and presentation of all our products on the stick are extremely important to us.
10:07Of course, we have developed excellent projects to ensure that this product, manufactured by our citizens, is presented directly to our citizens and consumers.
10:18In particular, last year we established our local products market in an area of approximately 10,000 square meters.
10:26So, our citizens harvested what they produced in their fields and gardens throughout the day and brought it in the late afternoon.
10:34He sold products directly in the market without any intermediaries, and this created a tremendous market.
10:41Especially on weekends, there has been a really high demand for this natural form of the stick, as our citizens in Ankara are familiar with its production process.
10:51So, the area we've created is very beautiful, the presentation by our citizens, that naturalness, that taste.
10:58We visit this market from time to time.
11:01We come from many different districts of Ankara, from Çankaya, Etimeskut, Yeni Mahallesi, because everyone knows this market and our pickles.
11:10That's why he came and tried to pick up our tomatoes and peppers, since he knew where we had them.
11:15Of course, this is a great economic benefit for our citizens.
11:19Our citizens have seen this, they have seen that they can reap the rewards of their labor, and it has truly been a turning point in terms of both increasing production capacity and diversifying it.
11:31He won.
11:32Yes, I'm happy again, as I said at the beginning, it's extremely important for our young people to participate in these agricultural activities.
11:40Especially recently, our young people are building very nice facilities and very nice businesses in the field of livestock farming.
11:48Let me also mention another characteristic of our district, in terms of livestock farming.
11:52There are 12 very special OSEVs in Türkiye.
11:57Livestock farm based on agriculture.
12:00This is an OSEV (Occupational Education and Training Center) established in our district.
12:03It is established on an area of approximately 2500 hectares, covering 2500 acres.
12:10And there are currently nearly 10,000 head of cattle there.
12:14And this year we have given training courses to 25 new businesses.
12:19It continues to increase.
12:20So this is also a very important sector for our sacrificial animal industry, which is already a very large sector in our district.
12:27Approximately 20,000 animals, including cattle, are slaughtered for sacrifice each year.
12:32It generates billions of liras in revenue for the district's economy.
12:37Of course, their support is important to us.
12:40We have a great responsibility to oversee and modernize businesses, and to ensure they produce healthy products for the public.
12:51But our brothers and sisters, our fellow citizens, are very sensitive about this issue.
12:55Because they become more sensitive when they are compensated for their labor and the results of their production.
13:00As I said before, they want to plant and sow in large areas.
13:03And then there's the reality, regarding costs, inputs, and drought.
13:10But if you do your job well, if you market your products well, then thankfully you will reap the rewards of your labor.
13:19Mr. President, thank you very much.
13:22We are witnessing firsthand the wonderful services you provide as the agricultural leader of Çubuk.
13:28We are very happy.
13:29Thank you very much for your participation in our program.
13:33Thank you very much.
13:34I would like to express my gratitude for the support you are providing to our farmers.
13:44Wishing all our farmers a bountiful and fruitful season.
